I only use on special occasions like outdoor family gatherings etc... having paid $$$ for 50ml
so im seeking an alternative to use fairly regularly with decent staying power esp. here in hot sydney

I adore the opening citrus blast & how the rose develops in the middle
Something similar would be great

Penhaligon's Castile has a similar rose note (but neroli instead of citrus). Very good staying power compared to AdP Colonia.

Lostmarch Atao is a moderately priced alternative.

Jean Marie Farina Extra Vieille has the same distinctive rose note as Colonia.

Liter bottles of it show up on eBay fairly regularly for about $60 US.

I get about eight hours longevity with JMF EV which I think is excellent for an eau de cologne.

I second Castile because it lasts longer than Colonia. Still not cheap though.

Colonia comes cheaper when bought in quantity. I bought 200ml in a splash bottle for about US$80 a few years ago, in a brick and mortar store. It must have been a sale somehow, and I don't think such a price could be found today, but the lesson of the quantity is one I remember well.

TwoRoads's suggestion of R&G EV is a good one though.

I think Colonia is a good value for the price.

The notes look impressive

This unisex scent posesses a blend of: Lemon, Bergamot, Rosemary, Orange, Neroli, Rose, Carnation

It seems like a no risk blind buy to me........

The fact that is has Carnation, and the house has been reffered to as "old smelling" made this an unsafe blind buy for me. The Yellow edition Hugh Parsons was one I was looking at as an alternative to Colonia, from mentions and reviews, as I dislike the lavender in Colonia, but love the aromatic-citrus opening, the sweet rose is ok too, though Parsons yellow has no rose afaik.

Is it 'old smelling' in a gentlemanly way like in CPM or like an old smelling dusty chest draw ?
