I didn't realize a BNer also had a blog with real expertise behind it:
http://jaimeleparfum.wordpress.com/
I looked on Andy Tauer's blog to make sure he knew about 1000perfumes, missed it on his long blogroll and wrote him to tell him about it. Of course he already knew of it and then introduced me to J'aime le parfum
Incidentally 1000perfumes wrote a nice little piece about how "amateur" bloggers are indeed in his view viable and worth reading, making the analogy that sports writers don't necessarily play sports, etc.
Ultimately for me the bottom line is that I should either learn something or my appreciation of a fragrance should be deepened in a meaningful way, and not just because some person with however much authority should give the subject at hand a thumbs up or down. For me of course the most famous critics don't really deliver on this score. Some of the fangirl bloggers really do make an effort to put some meaningful research into their reflections, at least.
