UPDATED with good news - One Year on Basenotes Today - Could've gone better...

So, to commemorate my one-year anniversary on Basenotes...I got robbed today. Guy needed a ride, I oblige him and as he's walking around the front of the car to get in I see a gun. He has me go to an ATM and take out $80 before dropping him off a few blocks away. The police said there's nothing they could do and wouldn't even bother filing a formal report, so there's nothing my bank can do either.

I am not hurt though, I'm alive and well and that's as well as one can hope for in a situation like that. Nonetheless, it's the fourth time in about 6 months I've been robbed or had a trespasser in my house so it's about time to move. I hear Florida's nice this time of year.

So one of my colognes is now tied to this memory, and unfortunately it's one of my favorites, Chanel Platinum Égoïste.

Happy anniversary, me.

Yeah I'm completely okay, just out some cash, shook up, and pissed off.
Whoa! I am glad you are ok bluesoul. That must have been a harrowing experience.
Oh man that just sucks in about a hundred different ways.
Dude I feel for you and it just doesn't seem right when kindness is repaid with malice.
I'm glad the only thing shot was your nerves.
You take care of yourself, my Miramar brother.

Bluesoul, I'm so glad you are OK! Congrats on your BN anniversary!!!
This is the 4th time in 6 months you've been robbed?? You definitely need to move out of whatever neighborhood you're currently in before something worse happens to you.

Good luck and stay safe.

I'm very sorry to see that your day was as trying as it was, though that is mitigated somewhat by hearing that it did not turn out any worse for you.

Nothing winds me up more than people who prey upon the generosity, kindness, and (in the case of children) credulous innocence of others; they are the very worst of our kind, circumstances be damned.

I hope tomorrow and the next day find you in better company and color.

Damn man.. that's bad.. glad you're well though, take heart man

I am sorry to hear that bro. A geographical change might be in order. It worked for me after living most of my life in a war zone. I chose a place very low in crime and I could not be happier or better off.

Very glad that you are okay. The winds of change are not so bad.

Glad you're okay. It says a lot about your character that you first wanted to help the stranger, especially after your experiences. May you never lose that part of you!

It does seem like it is about time, doesn't it. I wish you the best in finding a new state and a school with a great education program!

I just felt awful when I read your post, bluesoul! I cannot believe how seriously f---d up this world is. You did a nice thing, something many people refuse to do anymore, and you get knocked down for it. That totally sucks! I am glad, as others said, that you are okay, but I am sorry it happened.

Happy anniversary, me.

Sorry this has happened to you.

To get rid of the tie-in, wear PE more frequently until the memory goes away, if necessary, buy another bottle and use it up faster. This is good to create new memories.

I do that with songs and movies. If you use them more regularly, the pain will fade away.
Hope that helps.

cheers

Really glad you're alright. Really angry the police wouldn't take a report. I think you should call the da's office and scream your head off.
Can't file a formal report - WTF is that? I'm with Snafoo, time to think about moving...

At least you are O.K., and I mean that sincerely.
Glad to hear you're OK. Yes, too many times in a short period of time. I'd move as soon as I could..
Sorry to hear about this but good thing you are ok man.

If I were you though, as soon as I saw the gun walking past I'd have flattened him with my car, however, I live in the UK and chances are the law would be on my side. You, on the other hand live in the US, meaning if you'd run him down he'd probably have sued you.

"well see what happened was, I was gonna jack this guy and rob him. He caught on and drove into me"

Case closed

Its a crazy world

I decided I'm not gonna let a random scumbag destroy my relationship with Platinum Egoiste.

And I don't know how many times I've heard that, "you should've just run him over". Fact is, A gun's a powerful thing, and I froze up for long enough that it was out of the question. I'm trying really hard not to think about what I should've done differently, because I played through it well enough to come out completely unharmed and, you know, it doesn't actually do anything.

Thanks for the support, guys.
You're right, It's easy for me to SAY you should have run him over but if I was in the situation what would I do? You don't know until you're there.

I hope you never are again.
Sweetie, I am so glad you are doing well, and were not harmed. I am with Andyjreid, I would have run him over once I saw the gun, but I know it is not as easy when the situation is actually happening.
It is definitely time to relocate, and do not think of picking up strangers anymore. Being a kind person is a great quality, being a safe and healthy person is far better though. No more rides for strangers.
Be well and try to enjoy the weekend.
Also, maybe you could now move on to the classic Égoïste, I adore it so much, and find it very very sexy. Give it a try, and make it your own.
Yikes! If it's any consolation, though, it could be much, MUCH worse. A friend of mine here in Oklahoma City died about 13 years ago at the hands of an armed robber who had the same modus operandi -- yup, the now famous (and seemingly universal) ATM hold-up.

As a result of Wendell's death, many of the local banks started lighting their ATM's more brightly, as well as more aggressively monitoring their camera activity.

Too bad, too, btw, about Platinum Égoïste -- I'm a fellow fan.

Bluesoul,

Congratulations on your BN anniversary!
You should probably move but, remember no matter where you reside-a stranger is just that-A STRANGER! Please do not pick up strangers in your car. You are SO at their mercy if you do! Take care. Be safe. Be wise.
Oh no! I'm so sorry that happened to you. I'm glad you are okay though, situations like that can turn ugly fast.

I am glad you are OK, but this is just atrocious !! Nothing the police and your bank can do ?! That is just sick. So, I guess this does not count as part of the crime reports ? I am sure they can do something, but they have chosen not to do so.
The important thing is that you're OK. Everything else can get fixed.
4th time in 6 months? If that's what that city is like, you seriously need to skedaddle on out o' there.
Congrats on your basenotes birthday.

It´s normal you are asking yourself what you could have done different but you did what you had to do to get out in one piece, and that is what you did. Even if it´s hard, dont harass yourself wondering what you could have done different or better, in a upsetting situation as that, you did perfectly because you are alive, unharmed..just a bit poorer. But you still smell fantastic

I appreciate the support, guys. It's really been nice.

I had plenty of time over the weekend to think about the situation, everything that happened. I decided that given how many ways it could've been worse, I'm not going to worry about what I could've done differently. For one, dude had a gun; that limits a lot of what you'd do differently if you'd prefer to remain un-shot. And each little change you make in your head as far as how you'd play out the scenario changes everything else (The Butterfly Effect a la A Sound Of Thunder). So maybe I could've locked the door before he got in, would he have gotten pissed and busted the window? No way to tell.

I hate to say it, but you just can't give people rides anymore. The common thief has stolen the good Samaritan away, and that's a very very sad casualty of our society.

happy annivarsery, I wish you'd had a better day though, getting robbed is really more mentally tough than it is physically

GREAT news, thanks to my landlord raising holy hell with the police the man is now safely in police custody. I'm about to go down and swear out an arrest warrant and according to the police they want as many charges on this guy as possible.

I'm beyond happy at this point!

Cool beans, dude. You might even get your $80 back. Be glad he didn't jack you out here in Los Angeles. You'd have had a decent chance of ending up in a black bag.

This is actually the worst of it, when your piece of mind and sense of safety vanishes.

My own day went to hell early this morning. While driving into work, I rolled over some big piece of road debris on the 405 freeway. I was lucky enough to slow the car down to a reasonable speed over the next 5 seconds before the left front tire blew up. Flatbed towing + new tire + alignment + labor + cab fare back to the dealership = $1038. I was told I got off easy, since they didn't have to replace any parts in the front suspension. (Apparently, that would have almost doubled the cost of the repair.) Lucky me. Maybe I just shouldn't get out of bed for the rest of the month.

That sucks, car problems are always a pain in the butt. You're not hurt though right?

I'm fine, and the car got fixed in half a day (started at 9am, finished by 1pm). The worst of it is that so many other people have really serious problems, that I don't even have a legitimate right to complain. I consider what you went through (even just once) to be far more disconcerting.

Went in today to swear out a warrant against the man, whose information I now have thanks to Louisville Metro Police. It turns out I was the second person that's come forward with regards to a theft that day from this guy. University of Louisville Police and LMPD are working together to nail this guy on as many charges as possible.

And in one of those moments that reminds you that there is still some compassion for the good Samaritan, I was told by my bank today that they've credited $80 and the ATM fees back to my account.

Congrats! Yay because you took a stand and yay because the forces that be rewarded you for doing so!
