Hello everyone,
I am trying to decide between a few scents
for my husband's birthday
but having a really difficult time.

He really enjoys incensy, ambery, rich, even gourmand scents.
Some of his favorites are:

Antaeus, Burberry Brit, Gucci PH, Black Aoud, Pi, Borneo 1834,
Cannabis Rose, Armani Code, L'Instant de Guerlain PH, Cocoon,
Leau de Navigateur, Arpège PH, Red Sea, Mémoire d'Homme, B-Man,
Fougère Bengale, Black Tourmaline, Blue Amber, Ambre Sultan
...

Here are my choices to get for him:
I am trying to choose something that's slightly
different from what he already has, but that he'd still love
of course

Keiko Mecheri - Oliban
PG Cedre Sandaraque
Montale Boise Vanille
Montale Oud Flowers
Montale Vetiver des Sables
CDG -Red Series - Sequoia
CDG - Red Series - Palisander
Maitre Parfumeur et Gantier - Eau de Iles

Thank you so much for your opinions

CDG -Red Series - Sequoia

This will be pretty different, maybe a bit more manly but still has a warm touch

Wow, AP -- Lucky hubby!

I've been on a PG kick lately, so the Cedre Sandaraque was what jumped out at me... Have you (or he) tried Cristiano Fissore Cashmere (two versions: For Men and For Women)?? I find them both to be *incredible* and they sound like one of 'em (at least) might be just the thing for your dear husband. I know they carry both at LuckyScent.

Good luck, and happy birthday in advance, Mr. Provocateur!

I own MPG Eau des Iles and it is a marvelous, exotic scent. I recommend it highly.
I've tried CdG's Sequoia and Palisander. I like them, they are deep and woody.

You guys are wonderful!
Thank you so much for your suggestions
and your help.

So far sounds like it could be Sequoia

Do you think that Cedre Sandaraque
is unisex or 'musculine' enough?
He does wear Aomassai once in a while too.

Cedre Sandaraque is more masculine that unisex, and it is a great choice. It is sweet and mellow, and I exhausted my supply very quickly. You have reminded me to look at this again.

My first thought was that Cedre Sandaraque might be too sweet, but it does have a strong musk drydown that would probably work well on a man's skin. If he's comfortable with Aomassai, Cedre Sandaraque shouldn't be a problem.

I also like Vetiver des Sables on my husband, but only if he dabs a very small dose; it's incredibly powerful!

I'm voting for two..the Montal Bois Vanille (I happen to love vanilla, so I HAVE to vote for that), and the PG Cedre Sandaraque which I loved when I sniffed from a sample. Both are a little on the sweet side, but I agree with sucrose..if he can handle Aomassai, those two should not be a problem.

Your husband's taste seem to dovetail with my own fragrance preferences. From your list, Boise Vanille is one of the best Montales I have worn in long time. It has a classic masculine vibe without becoming outdated. I posted my review here: http://community.basenotes.net/showt...=193406&page=2 [Scroll to post #73]

Some others you might encourage him to test, if not already:

Etat Libre d'Orange Nombril Immense
M. Micallef Gaiac and Avant Garde
Indult Rêve en Cuir
Il Profumo Patchouli Noir
Tom Ford Japon Noir
Satellite Padparadscha
Andy Tauer Vetiver Dance
Lalique Encre Noire
Serge Lutens Serge Noire

I'd like to recommend something harder to obtain and pricey (but it would be a GREAT gift) that I think will be totally up his alley:

Yohji Homme

This one is AMAZING. And it would be the show-stopper of his collection. It hits on a lot of levels; for me it satisfies the classic fougere as well as the modern dry woody urges so well.
It has great sillage, and it is pure class. Too bad this one got discontinued .

You can find a small bottle for under 100, too.

Any additional thoughts on Palisander?
