a couple of Guerlain samples arrived today

derby vintage - awesome. you can just tell the ingredients are top notch for the first whiff. might be a tad formal/old man'ish for me. not sure. very nice leather and woodsy notes. again i can't get over how the ingredients smell of such top quality.

l'instant extreme - come to daddy. i love this. gourmand but not like other gourmands. the ingredients smell so fresh (as in freshly cultivated) that it feels like the perfumer had just made the fragrance a few minutes before i tried it on. this satisfies my shortcomings with Guelain's Coquin, which is an amazing chocolate fragrance but that i can't think of wearing because i don't want to smell like a chocolate bar. l'instant is more complex and masculine. i have to buy this.

since i can't find l'instant extreme anywhere, does anyone know if l'instant is roughly the same?

also, Miller Harris Cuir d'Oranger arrived today. i sprayed it on after washing off derby but i think there was too much of derby's scent remaining on my skin to fairly judge it. but what struck me immediately upon trying on Cuir d'Oranger is how its ingredients (and now many of my own fragrances' ingredients) pale in compariosn to Guerlain's. CdO definitely has peppery and orange notes tho.

There's a BNer offering L'Instant Extreme for sale in his signature... check the sale boards. It was at Beautyencounter for the longest time but now it's gone.

I've got a vintage bottle of Derby and it took me a while to 'get it'. At first the mint aspect of the chypre topnotes really stood out, but over time I really began to appreciate it in it's totality, especially the leather/oakmoss drydown.

is extreme same as parfum
if so I know where to get some

The Eau Extreme is the EdP, not a parfum. The only L'Instant parfum is the ladies' version.

I just got a bottle of L'Instant Extreme (EdP) from an eBay Buy It Now deal...I think the seller has 6 bottles left. They are TESTERS, so they are the real thing, but come without caps.

As for the smell, it is almost (but not exactly) identical to the EdT, but as the concentration would suggest, a bit stronger...but not by much.

The interesting difference is that the EdP has an abstract, almost strawberry-like heart note that doesn't really come out in the EdT.

The EdT of L'Instant is - as usual with the Guerlains - much more "transparent" than the EdP, therefore the former gives more way to the patchouli. So if you like that gourmand quality of cocoa beans and anise, I really suggest you haunt down the EdP!

not digging the L'Instant EDP after all. wore it last night when i went to a bar and then all day today. gets powdery and sweet on drydown. a bit too much powdery/sweetness for me. too bad becaue the opening is amazing. still have some left in the sample, so i'll try again before making final judgment on it
