Eau de Sud by Goutal

A citrus frag that smells good and lasts an unreal length of time. I just recently picked up a small bottle of this, mostly based on reviewers and it's what they said it was.

With spring right around the corner, this thread is a heads up for citric lovers who want longevity.

I use to have this - great for summer. The soap (expensive) is also very nice if you can find it.

I really admire this stuff, too. Great dry, nearly harsh, herbal feeling against the citrus. And the longevity is really nice for a citrus. I enjoy adventurous perfumes but the frequency with which I wear Rive Gauche PH, Villoresi Uomo, Eau du Sud and frags like that suggests that a lot of the pleasure for me is in well-constructed, good-smelling frags that simply wear well. Another reason to look forward to warmer weather.

I've never smelled this one. How would you compare it to the other citrus classic Eau de Hadrien also by Goutal? It sounds more 'aromatic', no?

I much prefer Eau du Sud to Eau d'Hadrien. It's more complex, richer, and more lasting. In fact, I'm baffled that Eau du Sud is not the more popular of the two.

Agreed! Eau du Sud is much, much better than Hadrien in my opinion. I also do not get why it hasn't caught on like Hadrien

I wear citrus frags all year around. My fave at the moment is L'Eau Neuve by Lubin. Longevity and citrus don't really go in the same sentence for me.

Thanks for the Eau du Sud tip, that and Iskander are on my "must try" list.

You should like this. It's lasting power is amazing for it's genre.

One of the best summer perfumes...i adore it...

I've got to give this one another try too.

OK, I've got Les Nuits d'Hadrien. Would Eau du Sud significantly different? I've only tried it on paper (and liked it), but haven't tried a full wearing.

Sounds like something I may like to try...thanks!

I've loved this one from the minute it came out.

Nuits d'Hadrien is like a softer (moist) version of Eau d'hadrien. Almost no resemblance to Eau du sud.

I really love Eau du Sud. IMO, it's infinitely better then Eau d'Hadrien and Les Nuits d'Hadrien.

I've got to try Eau de Sud again!

I love Eau du Sud. I was actually introduced to it by my wife, who used to wear it when we were dating. I thought it smelled incredibly sexy on her. When I found out that Annick Goutal also was marketing it for men, I was psyched (this was like 15 years ago, when I was just starting to be interested in colognes, and actually cared about whether it was meant for men or women). It's like a citrus scent with a slightly dirty edge. It's awesome!

I agree that it's WAY better than Hadrien, which I find to be a generic, kind of dull citrus scent. Hadrien isn't bad, but it's just way too safe for my tastes.

I agree here. Eau du Sud is much nicer than Eau d'Hadrien.

I suspect that if you like L'Eau Neuve you'll very much enjoy Eau du Sud and Iskander. I think that they are all cut from the same olfactory cloth. Cristalle, too shares some of the citrus/herbaceous/chypre character of these three. For citrus longevity, I'd also recommend Monsieur Balmain: it's oddly durable on my skin.

I tried Eau de Sud once and I remember it didn't last long enough, but such a problem always happens when I first wear a new scent. Have to wear it again soon.

I didn't think it would last on me since my skin is what it is. Citrus frags especially have no longevity for me.....except this one. It lasts an extraordinary amount of time when I wear it.

So what is Eau du Sud most like? Or what is its citrus notes most like? I tested it on a card one day, liked it much better than Eau de Hadrien, but really don't have a clear memory of it.

I want to try it soon.

Is Eau du Sud to Eau d'Hadrien what Eau d'Hermes is to Eau d'Orange Verte?
