If I could go to only one place to sniff in Manhattan, what would be the best place in or near midtown?

I'm going to be there for a last-minute brief trip with my sister and her young nephew, and I'll be lucky if I can carve out the time for one place. What would be best is if it's right near other things that might keep them occupied.

(Perhaps this should go in the City Guides forum, but it doesn't seem to get much traffic, and I'm leaving Tuesday.)
