Basenotes March Madness (BMM) - Five Slots Remaining!

So I saw someone mention March Madness on here and thought, Hey, it'd be great fun to do a tournament-style head-to-head test for some of the most popular fragrances on here. So far 52 of the 65 entries are locked in, I am awaiting reponses for another 8 from Grant and a few other users I sought out personally. That leaves 5 slots open for the members to get to shape the outcome of the tournament even before it starts.

Right now there are still some pretty big and well-known names that haven't made the cut, without the help of a list you guys will have to make suggestions for which fragrance you think deserves to be the undisputed Basenotes Champion. I'll select the five best or most interesting entries that don't overlap with existing entries. I'll keep taking entries until I get the other slots all locked in, then I'll make the selections and reveal the brackets.

More info on the tournament will be revealed during the Play-In Game, which will take place shortly after all slots are locked in. (The Play-In Game has already been decided though.)

Ready aaaaand GO!

Yes, I'm a bit clueless myself.

Sorry, let me clarify for the non-American readers. March Madness is the nickname for the NCAA Men's Basketball Tournament (University-level play). 65 teams play 63 single-elimination games over the span of two weeks until only one team remains and is declared national champion.

Basenotes March Madness will look quite a bit like NCAA March Madness. That is, something like this:

(Yes, basketball fans, I know that's not how it really played out but it was the best image I could find at a reasonable size.)

me too... :-(

Um...OK so you gonna bounce bottles of fragrance up and down in a game where you attempt not to lose by scoring points too slowly?

What we gonna have? Hundereds of polls to choose between frags chosen by ...whom?

Could you please expalin the idea in full? I don't feel much the wiser.

From what I can deduce, we're going to have playoffs between different scents, each of which will move forward to be pitted against another opponent until an "ultimate winner is found. (That bit is kinda clear).

Where's the confusion stemming from? (I'll admit bluesoul's first post didnt really address this in a way many Europeans such as myself in particular, would clearly understand).

On my iPhone so this will be brief. The full selection process will be revealed with the Play-In game (using the review system and I felt it was both fair and offered the most entertainment), but it will be head-to-head based on nothing more or less than "which of these two would you most like to see advance?" There will be multiple games per thread to minimize clutter.

Up, I've got four tentative picks out of five but there's still time until I get Grant's picks in.

I second the L'Anarchiste recommendation. Only didn't mention it in my first post because I figured it would already be included. It best be!

Since no one has mentioned it, Yatagan is my Cinderella pick.
Well, I'm not much for bball, depite Kansas roots. But I can definitely go for fragrance playoffs. Yatagan may not win, but it's gonna break a few backboards.

GO, BIG Y!!!

Concerning the March Madness thingy...anybody mention Kouros yet?

So we gonna have 64 polls confronting two completely unrelated scents?
Madness indeed.

Indeed, there are quite a few excellent scents that easily could've gone but the process was fair, I believe. Hopefully nobody gets too mad at me that their choices weren't picked, I'll likely randomize it next time around if this catches on but this time around I went mainly with name recognition with Yatagan and L'Anarchiste and a few up-and-comers in Hinoki, JXXV and arguably Antidote.

Here were some "on the bubble" teams that just missed the cut:

Heritage
Encre Noire
Minotaure
MKK
L'air du desert marocain
Halston Z-14
Jazz
Tam Dao
----
Dunhill Edition
Polo Double Black
Vetiver Extraordinaire
Polo
CDG Incense: Avignon
Voleur de Roses
Rocabar
Mugler Cologne
----
Joop!
Armani Code
Pi
Silver Mountain Water
Platinum Egoiste
Allure Homme
Eau Sauvage
Burberry Brit

And nowhere to be seen in the stats but I ones think could've made a good run at it were...
Creed Millesime Imperial or Sean John Unforgivable
YSL L'Homme
Creed Virgin Island Water
Narciso Rodriguez For Him
Old Spice
Baldessarini Classic
Tom Ford Black Orchid
Acqua di Parma Colonia
