Need Recommendations!

Hello...brand new to this site but love it (though have to say find navigating it as a new user a little confusing!).
I have spent the last 20 or so years (I'm in my 40s) searching for my 'signature scent'. When I was in my teens it was Rive Gauche - or sometimes my older sister's Madame Rochas (I didn't really like it, but thought it was grown up).
Since then I have invested in countless fragrances, always hoping it would be 'the one'. I seem to be attracted to two completely different types....... on the one hand, the 'deep' spicy, musky scents like:

Opium (come on - it was the 80s!)
L'Artisan Parfumeur - Premier Figuer
Narciso Rodriguez - For Her
Tom Ford's White Patchouli
(I loved the 'thought' of Fracas, which I have, but can't wear it because I find it too sickly)
Rochas' Tocade

yet on the other hand, I love light, fresh, lemony fragrances like:

Anick Goutal L'eau D'Hadrien
Diorella
Chanel No.19
Prada Infusion D'Iris

Any thoughts on a middle ground that I could try???

Thanks
Jeanne
p.s. Is there a way to buy 'decants'? If there is, I couldn't find it on the site. So often the Dept. store near me (not London!) doesn't have samples - and I'm loath to buy before I've worn something for a while to see how it suits.

Welcome, Jeane!

I'm thinking of lemony, fresh scents that could work for a woman-- Creed Neroli Sauvage and Creed Bois de Cedrat are both really nice. They aren't really masculine/feminine. Both pretty unisex. Kind of expensive, but good.

Also Hermes Eau D'Orange Verte (and the Concentré version) is another. In addition, Hermes' "Jardin" series has a couple of nice ones. Un Jardin En Mediterranee is fresh and cedary, while Un Jardin Sur Le Nil is a lush exotic grapefruit type scent.

Sorry, I don't know a lot of womens' scents, but I thought I'd throw a couple of suggestions your way.

Welcome Jeanne, I would suggest:

Lux - Mona di Orio
Aqua di Gio for Women - Giorgio Armani
Alex - Alex Curran
Almalfi Flowers - Creed
Art of Perfumery #5
Boss Femme - Hugo Boss
Diorella - Christian Dior
Eclat d'Arpege - Lanvin

Good luck to you.

Given that you're looking for something that falls between the brisk and the full-bodied, I'd second silverbullet's suggestion of Diorella, which combines aspects of both. A couple of others that straddle the divide are Le Parfum de Thérèse (Frederic Malle), Cristalle (Chanel), Calandre (Paco Rabanne), Azzaro Couture (Azzaro), Aromatics Elixir (Clinique), and Calyx (Prescriptives). You'll find reviews of all of these by brand by following links from the "Fragrance Brands" page, accessed from the menu on the left side of this page.

Good luck, and welcome to Basenotes!
