Serge Lutens: Serge Noire. This really starts to interest me more and more. It has a very nice dry down, and while I am not exactly overly thrilled with the opening, it doesn't stay too long on my skin and turns into something truly deep and interesting.

I changed up my application today. 2 sprays to each wrist. What a difference it makes! Sillage and longevity are much more impressive.

It was in the 80's here in SC today, so I washed up with some Acqua di Parma Colonia Assoluta shower gel, then put on some Colonia body lotion, and topped it off with a few tiny spritzes of
Creed - Erolfa. This combo is killer in the summer!

My first test of Parfums Delrae Eau Illuminee

Light citrus on top, somewhat floral but light about it. I definitely smell the spiciness of carnation in this. There's something buttery going on (iris??) and just a hint of powder (probably iris, too).

I really expected this to be more of a chypre and end with moss, but I'm getting something sort of vanilla and sort of wood (but it's not vanilla or wood...). I'm assuming this is what tonka smells like on its own (I honestly think I've only smelled it mixed with other things).

Perfectly nice and a bit feminine, but not too much so.

I'd easily reccomend it to someone who likes pleasant niche scents without the weirdness, but it's just not keeping me too interested, personally.

Anvers2 for me today. "Fresh" without resorting to acquatics, sport-notes, pine sol, or citrusy top end. Great stuff.

Aramis Havana

I know when I tested this for the first time last month, it did seem a lot like Montana Parfum d'Homme (red box), but today, I wore it alone. Not side by side with Montana, and they are most definitely different. Havana has a bit more of something, perhaps it's the tobacco? Something darker. Strong smelling, too. Almost like someone spilled a little Rochas Macassar in it or something. I gotta say, I like the citrusy opening of Montana a little better. The drydown is different too. Similar, but different. I think I get more sandalwood from Havana, and the tobacco too, if that's what it is.

It's wearable, but it most definitely is not me.

The odd thing is, I got an unusual amount of attention from the husband today, and none of the usual, "What is that horrible smell!?" So I'm not complaining.

SOTE: I'm trying something completely new to me, sent by the lovely Aiona (my first Basenotes sample swap!)

It's her much-loved Montana Parfum d'Homme (in the red box).

This one started out strong, with an initial blast of clove and aldehydes. These were quickly joined by smoke and leather - very nice.

Now, it's dried down to a smokey evergreen forest smell (kind of like a fire in a fireplace - wood sap plus smoke). I definitely smell Iso E Super (smokey almost-cedar - which I do enjoy, by the way), but it's really well-blended with woody scents. I kind of wish the clove kept going more, but most people here don't seem to like clove, so I guess I'm the odd man out on this. But this really is great - I can see what the fuss is about.

A nice one.

Thanks, Aiona!

Almost forgot to post (as I did yesterday!)

Guerlain Cuir Beluga - although very subtle when tested, the leather really stands out when worn and liberally applied. I got about 15 hours longevity today from this.

For posterity, Sun 3/8's SOTD was DKNY Fuel (original, not re-issue). Jury is still out on whether I like it as much as I thought I did when I only had a sample.
