Boozy Scents

I really want to try some boozy scents, I have tried and loved Virgin Island Water (which I own), Spiriteuse Double Vanilla and Straight to Heaven, however they are all so expensive. Can anyone recommend decent, but affordable rum/alcohol based scents.

It's not rum, but the ultra-affordable Escada pour Homme has a terrific cognac note.

Obsession night men has a little boozy malibu feel to it, and it can be found at TJ Maxx from time to time..

Burberry London - Port wine
Paul Smith London - Brandy
Lubin Idole - Rum

Dirty English has a dirty, boozy-ness about it.

Le Dandy by Parfums D'Orsay. Pure booze.

Any bay/rum; there are many inexpensive one's out there.
A more expensive bay/rum with added musk and tobacco would be Czech and Speake Cuba.

CdG Sequoia is unintentionally boozy (or intentionally?). It has "Red Rum" in it. I wonder if they were going for the whole red rum = murder angle because I don't know what Red Rum is. But it still smells very rummy. I like it.

Havana (Aramis) - The best rum / tobacco frag out there, imo
Michael for Men (Michael Kors) - Has a booziness to it, even though no booze is listed in the pyramid...

Agree on the Kors, Tobacco leaf and boozy. Addictive and sensuous. A ladykiller.

Same with Courvosier L'Edition Imperiale

No booze listed, definite booze detected.

Interesting that a fragrance by Courvosier wouldn't contain any booze notes.

For something truly inexpensive, I'd recommend Tommy Bahama - Set Sail St. Barts for Men. I like the tequila in it.

DKNY Red Delicious Men : cognac + apple liquer.

JHL is the booziest bottle of juice I own for external use.

I would second the Idole de Lubin which is rum at its finest.

You can get it direct from the Geo F Trumper website, it's currently ÂŁ31 for a 50ml atomiser but once you have that you can buy refills (come in plastic bottles) and start at 100ml for ÂŁ25.

You can also but it at theperfectshave.co.uk for the same prices.

I know that trumpers used to do a tester pack where they'd send you 6 cologne vials, some shave cream samples and some moisturisers (skin foods lol).

Depending on where you live in the UK you may have somewhere to walk in and test them but im sure you can navigate your way round websites to find out locations. I'm in Glasgow and fortunately have a Perfect Shave store where I go for all my shaving kit and occasionally cologne.

The Trumpers Bay Rum is one of the best I've smelt from a UK company it's has an instant hit of cloves and a kinda boozy breakdown after that. I cant comment on longevity as I've only had it on my skin from a vial, The last time I was at the store where I could have spray tested it, I was en route to Penhaligons.

Hope this helps

P.S. I should add that you could get other brands of Bay Rum cheaper but I haven't tested any other than Trumpers.

As a quick update to this,

Are you looking for boozy modern or boozy old fashioned?

Im not too up on boozy modern but basically I feel that almost 90% of "barbershop" scents i.e. Trumpers/Taylors have a boozy feeling to them however some of them come off a bit old fashioned.

Im looking for boozy in the same spirit as SDV and Straight to Heaven.
Cool,

Maybe best not to go too far down the barbershop route.

I agree, smells of whiskey. but not in the "stinking drunkard" way, but more the "crown royal straight" way.

A couple of months ago, lizzie_j started a similar thread on the FFD that all us boozer gals chimed in on. She compiled a long, long list of the recommendations about 2/3 down the page. Some of the recs are unisex, some are marketed as feminine but could go either way, and some ... I'll leave up to the wearer. Anyway, you might get some good information from her Boozy scent recommendations thread. Since I love boozy scents myself, I'll be following this new thread closely too, and I'll let lizzie_j know her list might be getting longer.

I would most definitely suggest, like many others on the FFD thread, Parfum d'Empire Ambre Russe. In my opinion, a luxurious scent.

With the Bay Rum article on the home page, this thread might be a good place to post a link (for US posters) to 2oz of Bay Rum for a penny (plus five bucks shipping) [thru March '09].

I ordered it and it's for real, even came with an after shave sampler. Clove really isn't my thing, but this is a pretty cheap way to check out the bay rum scent.

I'll fourth (I think) Idole de Lubin. I LOVE it... by far my favorite Olivia Giacobetti scent. Another would be Caravelle Epicée by Frapin. Neither of them are terribly cheap, but cheaper than StH or SDV by far.
Fendi Uomo is an old one that is BOOZY and can be had very cheap. Strong juice and rich. I still like it for cold weather.
i'll second kors' michael for men and d'orsay's le dandy, both great fragrances.
