How do stores get new stock of discontinued fragrances?

The question listed in the topic has bugged me for a while.
"How do stores get new stock of discontinued fragrances?"

If a fragrance has been discontinued since around 1995, how does an online store get fresh stock of this in 2009? Do they have the fragrance cryogenically frozen only to be sold years later? Or does the fragrance manufacturer make a special order? Does anyone know about this?

They don't! What fragrance are you talking about. Perhaps a reformulation of an older fragrance?

I'm specifically talking about Jazz Prestige and how Parfum1 got its hands on some stock

I'm just guessing - but a distributor somewhere probably had stock that was never sold. There's probably quite an interesting underbelly of fragrance/cosmetic wholesalers and distributors. It also wouldn't surprise me if distributors deliberately held onto fragrances when they hear they are about to be discontinued for the express purpose of selling them later down the road for a higher cost.

I would stick to Ebay vendors with good reputations man, it's what I would do.

Probably would be good to move this to the Fragrance Industry Discussion Board.

I read once an article on a group called the fragrance hunters that for a fee would search for clients to hunt down discontinued fragrances. The fee was not cheap but the search would be extensive - the owner of the company said that such gems are discover in an old NYC warehouse a stock liquidations.

So that must be where these companies come across these scent ...warehouse sales...fire sales...?
