August 28-30, 2009
Worldwide Basenotes Meet-Up Weekend

If youve been following the party that Nukapai and Grant are putting together on august 28th over in London and are feeling left out, I have an idea for you.
If youve been reading Ubu & Tangs Excellent Scent Adventure and want to experience the fun of hanging out with other Basenoters, I have an idea for you.
I am proposing that we make the weekend of August 28-30, 2009 Worldwide Basenotes Meet-Up Weekend.
What do I mean?
The truly blessed amongst us will be together in London.
For the rest of us what Im suggesting is that you name a place and a time on that weekend to meet-up and in essence we have a worldwide Basenotes convention.
Every city or region will need a person or persons to take point and co-ordinate.
Since Im suggesting this Ill volunteer to be the Boston point person.
To give you an idea what I mean here is the announcement for Boston:

Calling all Boston and New England Basenoters
Lets all meet-up on Saturday August 29th at 10AM in the atrium in front of Barneys in the Copley Place Mall.
Once we are together we will go into Barneys, Neiman Marcus, CO Bigelow, LOccitane, Saks Fifth Avenue, and Sephora.
For those who still have energy and weather permitting well finish our day down on Newbury St at Lush, Chanel, and Hermes.
After Hermes we can head down to Troquet and have some small bites and wines by the glass.
Anybody who thinks they want to come should PM Somerville Metro Man and Ill keep track of everyone.
If you cant make it at 10AM Ill be available by cell phone and you can join us at any point during the day that works for you.
The point of this is to share our passion for perfume in a fun way together.
I look forward to seeing some of you for this.

If you want to be a point person to organize go to Social Groups and I've created a Social Group named Worldwide Basenotes Meet-Up Weekend 2009.
http://community.basenotes.net/group.php?groupid=50
Go in there and create a thread with your city name on it and use that to do the organizing about what you want to do.
I'll keep track here of who is point person for which areas as they create a thread there.

Current Cities as of July 19th

Boston, MA USA on Saturday August 29th- Somerville Metro Man
Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada -Saturday August 29th - nsamadi
Chicago, IL USA- Saturday August 29th - Quarry
Miami/South Florida Saturday August 29th- futami
Central Florida Saturday August 29th- decillisjl
San Francisco Saturday August 29th-rogalal
Kansas City Saturday August 29th- Cologne Junkie
Hong Kong Saturday August 29th- mr. reasonable

The remaining requirement is to take lots of pictures. Maybe even try and get a picture of the whole group at one of the counters or near a local landmark. We can then make a site album to put all of the pictures in. For those who are in smaller places even a get together at someones home which is centrally located and have a blind sniff with everyone bringing one blind scent could be fun. The main idea is to be together not for it to be anything grander than that.
The proposal is to try and get as many Basenoters together in small groups over the three days of this weekend in August. Lets truly bring Basenotes Nation to life all over the world.

Brilliant idea, SMM!
I'm hoping to make it to London, finances and holiday arrangements permitting.
But if I can't, I'd love to meet up with my fellow Swiss Basenoters. Or even Swiss and German. Heck, possibly any and all EuroNoters!

And that gets me thinking: one day (note: ONE DAY, not this year!) we're going to have to seriously consider doing a 'Basenotes does Paris' trip.
First of all, I just love your brain, SMM. This is simply a genius maneuver you've envisioned.

Secondly, I'm torn. I want to join you and ComDiva and Chaya and Goldie and Brielle and Pomander in Boston, but I'd also be ecstatic to be the Chicago coordinator because there are so many midwesterners I'd love to see, and the jump to Chicago would be so convenient.

So, I guess I'm calling for a show of hands. Would many of you want to meet up in Chicago?

I've built a Google map marking fragrance shopping locations in Chicago. I recommend each BN convention site do the same.

Link to interactive map.

1. Awesome idea (and thanks for running it by me and Grant )

2. We will have such a great time on that weekend

3. You guys are making me want to try and do a Paris one next year...

4. Quarry and Ubu and Tang have made me miss Chicago (I could totally live there!)
Oh, tempting me with Chicago again so soon! I'm ready to go back there right now.

If not Chicago, Des Moines, The Twin Cities, Omaha, or Kansas City might be do-able.

I'll be checking my August calendar...

Thank you Quarry.

I am SO in!!! And just to make Quarry's decision tougher (and anyone else who might be considering flying to one of the BN "get together" spots) - anyone who'd like to be put up in a super-friendly, fairly chaotic and very foodie household (three kids ages 10-15, three incredibly social giant rabbits who'll be living in our outdoor bunny condo by then), PM me and we'll work out sleeping space [guest room and sleeper sofa], and access to my wardrobe, of course.
Here's a math question for SMM: If Quarry boards a train going 110 mph on a Thursday and hits three U.S. convention sites, how many BNers can she meet over a 72-hour period?
Don't forget to allow for the bunny factor.

After consulting with some experts, I'd like to officially announce:

The Semi-Official San Francisco Basenotes Meet-Up and Shop-Til-You-Drop-a-Thon!!!

Saturday, August 29th.

A full day of sniffing, shopping, and chatting around the amazing stores of San Francisco's Union Square.

So many possibilities:

Gumps, Hermes, Chanel, Diptyque, Wilkes Bashford, Tiffany, Saks Fifth Avenue, Macy's, Sephora, Nordstrom's, Bloomingdales, Barney's, Neiman Marcus, L'Occitane, and more???

Half the fun will be narrowing it down!

See the official thread here:

http://community.basenotes.net/group.php?groupid=50

Possibilitie for the day:

Our Guerlain Boutique (with all the exclusives), the Frederic Malle boutique, Chanel Exclusifs, the Le Labo laboratory, Hermessences, our own Diptyque boutique (and it's sale table!), Creed, Bond No. 9, By Kilian, Tom Ford private collection, three competing Jo Malone boutiques (?!?), Clive Christian, Commes des Garcons, Penhaligan's, Fresh, Geo F Trumper, and whatever's left of the L'Artisans by then - and those are just scraping the surface!

If there's such a thing as an orgy of fragrance-sniffing, this will be it!

Check out the link and PM me to RSVP

Agggh!! I hate word problems.

The more pertinent question is if Quarry boards a train going 110 mph and hits three US convention sites how much heavier will her suitcase be at the end?

What about us Euros? I am not completely certain of where I'll be on the day, which makes me a poor choice to organise anything. (Though that's true of me most of the time anyway. )

But do any of us European Basenoters have the urge to meet and greet?
You should all come to the London meet, which started all of this, of course!

(Dani is still finalising details of who we will be seeing, but I've already heard of one very cool thing happening! Overall, the programme will be similar to their previous meet-up).
I SOOOOOO wish I could make it, but I have a horrible feeling Small is starting school over here in Switzerland on the Monday. Don't think she'd ever forgive me if I made her miss her first day because Mama wanted to smell perfumes!
(More to the point, somehow I can't see Mr Wordbird going for it, and he holds the family pursestrings.)

However, once I get our summer schedule worked out (and this is proving a little harder than expected, what with one thing and another), I will hopefully know where I am then and will be able to organise seeing someone from Basenotes. I'd love to meet my fellow SwissNoters! And I know we have plenty of brethren (and sistren) across the border in Germany.
When will the London schedule be finalised, Nukapai? I'm so looking forward to it. It will be my fortieth birthday. What a treat! I'll be in heaven!
I'm going to come and kidnap you, Wordie

Soirdelune - I am waiting for Dani to get back to me and sorry I can't be any more specific than that! Hoping for "soon".

Hey I haven't been here in awhile but I know there are some South Florida Basenotes alumni. Anyone interested in getting together?
AndiMAC- Futami and myself were talking about getting together in Boca where there are all the top department stores and Scentiments is nearby in Pompano. Anyone else?
Just want to make sure everyone knows that groups are forming by location AT THIS LINK.

Hi everyone I updated the cities that groups have organized in.
I also want to say even if two Basenoters know they live close to each other and want to meet somewhere in the middle to have coffee that is just as good as these big shopping expeditions that are going on in the big cities.
Use the link in the first post and see if there are people near you who want to get together and do a swap of samples or a blind sniff. The whole idea is to get Basenoters togethere on the same weekend and share our passion for perfumes and colognes.
I'll be keeping running tabs weekly as we are now six weeks away.

Here is the Boston Tentative Schedule.
I am in the midst of working out all of the finer details but it looks like we might have some special guests and it looks like we might get some discounts from the various stores while we are there. I'll know more over the next two weeks.
If you're definitely coming and haven't PM'd me please do that so I can get a confirmed head count.
If you're thinking of coming and are still on the fence I'd like to know that, too. so go ahead an PM me and give me a likelihood of you joining us.
Right now I have nine confirmed people who are going to be there. The more the merrier.
Meet at 9:45 in the Atrium of Copley Place
10:00 AM Neiman-Marcus
11:00 AM Barney's
12:15 Sak's Guerlain Boutique
1:00 Sak's Fine Fragrance
1:45 Lunch and walk down Newbury St.
2:30 Chanel

Nine Cities set for the Weekend of Auguast 28-30th.
Three weeks to go until we all get to uncloak ourselves and really find out how we smell in our favorite scents.
Not too late to organize in your city.
Remember it can just be a meeting at a local coffee shop and an opportunity to swap samples and perfume tales.
The idea is just to meet other Basenoters.

To the Boston Group.
Just got off the phone with Christopher who runs the Guerlain Boutique at Sak's.
He told me that our group will be getting a 15% discount on Saturday while we're there.
He has been very helpful in the planning and this is just the cherry on the sundae.
