SOTD: 7th April 2009

Thread Starter
OK, it's past midnight GMT, and I've stayed up specially to start the SOTD thread because there's a very special someone I wanted to say Happy Birthday to: our very own South Boston Jewish Love Goddess who is also an opera diva, power lifter, amazing nurse, great cook and perfumer's muse. And in case you wonder what she sounds like, well I can only describe her voice as sex on a plate. She's a star!

Chayaruchama!!!

I know it's not traditional to start the SOTD thread like this, but she's such a ball of energy on the board and such a good friend that I wanted to say a special hello to her today.

And just so it really truly IS the SOTD thread, I am wearing Borneo 1834, Lutens and Sheldrake's genius marriage of dark cocoa powder and patchouli that is a true masterpiece. Dark, mysterious, rich and sexy. Oh, I'm back on Chaya again...

Have a wonderful day all.

In honour of Chaya's birthday, it's Borneo 1834 for me tonight as my SOTE in EST.
Happy Birthday Chaya!
You wicked things !
SO early !

Wordie- I love you RIGHT back...
[Be grateful you're NOT a MAN-
I'd show NO mercy, unlike the meaning of 'ruchama', LOL]
GO TO BED, you two !

It's Veuve's birthday, too !!!
Kusjes en knuffels, mein gelieverd !
Kudos on your new nest-
May it bring you good fortune and much pleasure ....

Lots of other crazies share our day-
JCE ! - Russell Crowe, Jack Black, Lady Day, James Garner, Ravi Shankar, FFCoppola, William Wordsworth, David Frost, Daniel Ellsberg.
All nutsy fagins...

SOTD will be Le Labo's very blue Iris 39; I don't know why I passed on this years ago.
I'll be at work, for the first time.

Iris 39 Notes
Iris, lime, patchouli, rose, ylang ylang, musk, violet, ginger, cardamom, and civet [ per Luckyscent]

Kisses to you all.
May it go mercifully with us....
Happy Birthday Chaya!
So you share your birthday with William Wordsworth? Is he one of your legendary boyfriends (or are you loyal to Bach?) If he is not, I claim him for me!
Have a lovely day!

Happy birthday Veuve!
Did you move? Best wishes on your new castle! And best wishes for a super fragrant day!
Hugs and prayers to our people in Italy. Sometimes the ungodly Acts of God are so tremendously awful, they make us think that everything is passing in this world. Hoping for peace in your hearts.

Will go to sleep in Ferre by Ferre.
Chaya, my b-day twin: make it a good one! Here's some vlaai, you deserve it.

I'll be spending the day calling up random people telling them to come help decorate and suchlike, bribing them with tea and cookies.
Arwen: no, I didn't move *yet*, but I just heard yesterday evening that I got the most wonderful apartment. Been squealing like a pig ever since.

Sotd is Hiris, since it's Olivia Giacobetti's birthday *too* today.
Happy Birthday, Chaya!

Happy Birthday, Veuve!

I haven't picked a scent yet (haven't even been to bed yet) but I could not resist putting in my two cents' worth of birthday wishes while the day is so new for y'all.

Have sinfully, scentfully, wonderful birthdays, both of you.

Happy birthday Veuve! Plus, the ace apartment is the perfect present. Congratulations!

And I'll second Twolf's thoughts for the earthquake victims in Italy. Have we heard from our Italian Basenoters? I'm thinking particularly of Lady in Black.
LIB, all out Italians...
My heart goes out to you all.

Veuve- I MISS vlaai !
That makes my day ...

I forgot that my boyfriend- Jackie Chan - is also 55 today; we both do ALL our own stunts.

Iris 39- twinning the iris w/ Veuve.

Happy Birthday to Chaya and Veuve!
Started off the day by dabbing a little Miller Harris' Fleur du Matin on my neck.

Went to the city today and I bumped into Mr Frederic Malle who was in Mecca Cosmetics for meeting with the Sydney press. I was jumping up and down and got very very excited. I bought a bottle of Canal Flower and asked him for his autograph. He seems nice!!!

Tested a lot of fragrances today. I am overwhelmed. The selection in Sydney is wide! They have Tom Ford 9whole range), DKNY (the remake of Signiture, Fuel and Chaos are here) and Etat Libre d'Orange.

Many Happy Returns to Chaya and Veuve - enjoy your day!

I'm wearing Une Fleur de Cassie by Dominique Ropion for Frederic Malle.
This is a gorgeous floral with some spice added to the mix in just the right blend.
The drydown is beautiful.
Why don't I wear this more often?

Lady R thanks for the news on Lady in Black.
Happy Birthday to chaya and Veuve truly this must be a magical day if two such as you were born on it. (That brings and end to our Hallmark Moment for today )
I hope you both have an awesome day and life seems to be bringing you wonderful gifts with Veuve's new apartment and chaya is up and functional again as Frankenfoot LIVES!!!
Have wonderful days both of you.

I was in an incense mood today:

L'Artisan Dzongkha

As a lover of incense scents Bertrand Duchaufour has become my "go-to" nose for these kinds of scents. In his incense portfolio he has Amouiage Jubilation XXV, CdG Kyoto and Avignon, and L'Artisan Aedes and Timbuktu. In 2006 he created a second scent for L'Artisan playing on some of the themes he explored in 2004's Timbuktu. If Timbuktu was the incense of the streets, Dzongkha is the incense of the temple. The combination of floral notes with the incense makes this a much more refined experience than Timbuktu. Right from the top there is a beautiful sweet floral which according to the notes is peony. This slowly becomes the more focused and less-sweet iris. The heart is a mix of the spiciness of cardamom, the smokiness of tea, and the watery sweetness of lychee. Underneath all of this, right from the beginning, is the incense. At the beginning it is lighter and taking second-billing to the floral notes. In the heart is has become part of the ensemble adding both smoke and sweet to the other notes. Finally in the base it has the stage to itself and gives off a memorable soliloquy for my nose. It is always nice that the constants in one's life are there and for me M. Duchaufour, incense notes and excellent scents are becoming as sure a thing as the sun coming up.

Have a Titanic Tuesday everyone.

Wowsers! Chaya AND Veuve!!! Happiest of birthday's to you both ~ you're our treasures du jour! Cake, coffee, balloons and streamers all around!

Congrats too going out to tangs "Tar Heels" - noticed they won the title!

Another dreary Spring morning, the temp. is 30 degrees F. - so it's Aomassai by Parfumerie Generale.

Can somebody post an update re: LiB??? I'm presuming she's okay (thanks Riannon), but still a bit concerned...

Happy Birthday, Chaya! & Veuve!

Because it feels like -11C with the windchill
and it's been snowing for two days!

Oh my, I haven't posted in forever!

Coconut, I'm so envious of you! Nice work getting a signature. Very little of the good stuff at Mecca Cosmetica make it to the Canberra store. I have asked a couple of times and managed to get free samples of ELdO and Malle.

Happiest of birthdays to Veuve and Chaya. Here's some Aussie dessert - pavlova. Perfect for spring!

Also Veuve, congrats on the apartment and your father's recovery. No more living next to a brothel?

Therese, hope the procedure went well!

Hope dearest Lady in Black and our Italian friends are safe!

Sorry if I missed anything, so much to catch up on! Big hugs to all!

Oh and I'm wearing Anglomania.

Hermes Vetiver Tonka.

Happy birthday to our Birthday bunch, can't but agree with Wordie that chaya's limitless energy shows through the boards and keeps us all in line. It is the gift from the above and she knows it and uses it with grace. Veuve -- you sneaky thing, good going with your moving in. Please be gentle on yourselves and immerse yourselved in friends, family, food and fragrances (as stolen from SMM) for the day.

Correcting myself -- OG's brthday is April 9, 1966. Sorry I confused some of us with one of my SnS posts. So, please prepare for Thursday.
^^ I just finished reading the "Battle of the Vetivers" thread and had been inspired to go with my only vetiver scent today: Vetiver Tonka.

Elegant, and soothing.

Very Happy Birthday to Chaya and Veuve!!! Here's to many more to come

I too have read about the disastrous earthquake in Italy. I live in a major earthquake zone AND have distant relatives in the region where the quake occurred. I can really sympathize with this horrible event, and hope all are ok.

I don't have Iris 39 nor Hiris, but will join the party with another iris fragrance -- Miller Harris Terre d'Iris. Strangely, I am reminded of the candied violet note in SL Bois de Violette, only this seems to be more of a candied iris blossom note. It is followed by sweet powder and soft wood. I don't know why I wear this so rarely...today it is hitting the spot!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, CHAYA AND VEUVE!!!!

Running around like a headless chicken today, so will try to post an appropriate cake later... Please know that you two are FANTASTIC and we love having you as part of our Basenotes family!!!

SoTD for me is a variation on the Chaya and Veuve theme... Chanel Coromandel.

Coromandel notes:
Patchouli, amber, vanilla, woods, incense.

First, best wishes and a spring bouquet for the birthday girls...

I'm testing Neil Morris AEGEAN and MARINER this morning (they are really nice - Mariner especially has me pretty excited!). I think I will switch to DZONGKHA for the rest of the day. SMM, your review was great. It's one of my favorite fragrances, but I've found it mysteriously hard to describe to others!

Thank you babes for your thoughts.....I'm ok! I'm lucky I'm living in the North of Italy, in an area which is not likely to be affected by earthquakes since the deep layers underground are sandy, so they kind of absorb the shock. But I feel so sad about the poor people who lost their lives and for those who lost family, friends and homes. News tell that we're coping with something like 100.000 homeless at the moment...

Anyway.....
The happiest of Birthdays to Chaya and Veuve Amiot!
Hope you're having a great day!

Sorry I am late to the party, but I had a cake for two parfumista queens to pick up.

Happy Happy Birthday my Darling Vilde Chaya may your day be as filled with joy and love as you are. I also have to concur with Wordie, Chaya's voice is truly "sex-on-a-plate".

Dearest Veuve may your special day be as colourful and precious as you are, not to mention a huge congrats on the new place. But I am sure life will never be as interesting once you are not "next to a brothel"; just remember all the tricks you might have learnt

Therese, so pleased the procedure went well.

For all our darlings in Italy you are all in my thoughts and prayers.

LIB, I am so much relieved to know you are fine, thank goodness.

My scent for the daytime is vintage Paris by Coty all springtime floral and brightness.

Love and hugs to all of you.

Happy birthday, CHAYA! Happy birthday VEUVE! xxxx

SMM; your poetic review of Dzongkha makes me giggle. There you are, all eloquent - and what do I say about it when I gush? "Oooh, whisky! Mmm, red rubber bands! Root celery! Hairy biker!"

I had one of those odd, greedy, wow-I-love-perfume-days when I wanted to wear everything in my wardrobe. I was tempted to Astaroth it, but I didn't, so I just went with what I grabbed first: Sugar by Fresh. It's a real scent-journey for me (I have only ever purchased this on my trips to the States) and for some reason, I guess I wanted to be transported.
