Which band would you love to see reunite?

I have to say my 1st choice would be The Smiths. Runner up? The Pixies.

Yours?
I'm with you 100% on The Smiths, Mike.
Wait, the Pixies ARE reunited! I love The Smiths, but it would never be the same.
I wish Guided By Voices would reunite, somehow Bob Pollard's solo stuff never quite reached the mark of the finest GBV work.

Talking Heads.

Got to see the Pixies a few years ago on the Pixies Sell Out tour. It almost made up for not seeing them in their prime.
That was an easy question for me. To my mind, the greatest super-group band was Little Village. Made up of Ry Cooder and John Hiatt (guitar), Nick Loewe (bass) and Jim Keltner (drums). They did a few projects as the band on each other's albums, but only released one album under that name.

Yes, The Pixies tour a few years ago was incredible. I would like a GBV reunion with Tobin back in the band, and maybe Mitch. The Airport 5 record (Tower in the Fountain of Sparks) Bob and Tobin made some years ago ranks almost as high as GBV's early 90s output IMO.

Hard to believe that I can still remember the shows. The 60-minute drunken encores never became stale.

Motor away...

PANTERA was the most rockin' heavy metal band ever. It made you want to destroy your environment and break things. So crunchy. And they didn't sound like a shouty, loose, generic metal band. They were tight, original, and incredibly talented. They inspired most of the metal bands that are popular today.

However, years ago, a man jumped up on stage with a SHOTGUN and blew away the lead guitar player, Diamond "Dimebag" Darrel, right in front of everyone. Police immediately shot and killed the man, but it was too late for Dimebag. We never even got to find out the guy's motivation. Dimebag was THE BEST heavy metal guitarist of our time. Not quite as flashy as Yngwie Malmstein, but just as talented, and with his own signature style of shredding. That was some good music. Pantera was way ahead of their time, and they are sorely missed.

Saigon Kick--with Beiler, not without. I see they're playing at some huge festival, but I don't believe it's with Beiler. Probably one of the most underrated bands of all time.
An impossibility, but my choice would be Nirvana.
My vote would be for Pink Floyd. I know they reformed a few years ago for a charity concert, but I think they could still write and perform new material.
The original Smashing Pumpkins (Billy, his talented drummer, and 2 marginally talented dummies to hold instruments and who looked good).

Bush
Tribe Called Quest
NWA
Remy Zero
Boston
Soundgarden
Hole
The Cars
The Stray Cats

Led Zeppelin, best rock band of all time. It's too bad John Bonham liked to drink so much, because otherwise they might still all be jamming together today. I would have sold a kidney to see their O2 reunion concert in London. I'm hoping they decide to do more tour dates in the United States.

3rd for Pink Floyd. It will never happen, but I can still hold on to hope.

Scentronic: I remember the Dimebag incident. It happened in Columbus while I was living there. Tragic. The venue went through some tough times afterward but thankfully the community rallied around them and they've remained open and busy.

I know. I was lucky enough to see Guided By Voices twice and they were probably the best I've ever seen. They could make any band half their age look foolish. They were almost too good to be true.

Genesis - with Peter Gabriel.

Not only reunite but make new music.
I got one of my wishes when The Police reunited but I was disappointed that no new music came of it.
One of the more interesting things would've been how each of the members had been musically influenced in their time apart and what that would have meant in terms of new music.
To that end I am agreeing with an earlier poster but the band I'd most like to see reunited is Talking Heads but only if they would also make some new music.

Saw them as well in 1996. They played around 30 songs in 1 hour. Pollard, Toby, Mitch, et al.

Oh, and who I'd like to see reunite? Wham!
Saw Al mention Boston, which will never happen--sadly, lead singer Brad Delp committed suicide maybe two years ago. Their last album featured him on lead vocals with two other singers (Fran Cosmo, who was on their previous album, and a female--can't remember her name... Kim Dahl or something like that).

Another band that came to mind is Soundgarden.
I'm a huge fan of The Smiths, probably my favourite band of all time, and I for one hope they never reunite. Reunions are always disappointing, and everyone has such fantastic memories of The Smiths that I sincerely think it would be a great shame to spoil those.
Savatage, 100%. Although they technically never split up they haven't made an album since 2001 and their members are involved in other projects. A crying shame!

Pink Floyd will never happen seeing as Rick Wright is dead. It's a shame that he was so poorly treated by Roger Waters all those years ago because I think Rick didn't get credited for a lot of the stuff he wrote.

Back onto topic I'd LOVE to see Soundgarden reform and Chris Cornell could apologise for that shit-stain his last album was. He'd have been as well calling it "Songs Written by Timbaland for Justin Timberlake but JT didn't want them"
I saw Janes Addiction the other day. I didn't think I'd get to see them again.

I'd go see a Talking Heads reunion

without Rick W it wudnt be the same...and it seems Roger and David would never "work" together....maybe at a superficial level...but not cohesive..

SP's Siamese dreams is one of my all time favorite albums and arguably, one of their best...

Soundgarden: is there a album so diverse as Superunknown...? or guitar heavy as badmotorfinger....they pioneered grundge movement like no other band did

I would like to add Black Sabbath to the list...Master of Reality changed my perspective on metal music completely...

I would also like add Faith No More, Rage Against the Machine (Audioslave is doing great job too) and New Order to the list...

I'm not trying to be rude or anything but you do know that Audioslave split up and RATM reformed last year? AND Faith No More have reformed too (post Jim Martin line up)

no offence taken!

Jim Martin was the reason i liked Faith No more. call me the guitar freak. so for any FNM follower FNM without Jim Martin is not the same.

on RATM, i wasnt aware of that at all ! glad to know.

btw, one more Band to the list White Zombie. Astro Creep 2000 was just the kind of junk electro metal i needed when i was in college....

I know, unfortunately Roger Waters seems like a major @ss. I was glad that they at least got together and played for Live 8. Now all we have to look forward to AUSSIE FLOYD. lol

SMM - I read two authoritative pieces on this at the time they toured (although I can't reference the articles I'm afraid). Apparently the band did enter the studio to record new music, however the tracks were reported to sound like out-takes from a Sting solo record. And going by Sting's recent output, that's not good.

There was also a plan to release (in conjunction with the tour) an 'acoustic' album (presumably some kind of best-of). Well, that album has not been sighted and one can only assume they weren't getting on with one another sufficiently to do the recording.

As for myself - not withstanding half of them are dead - someone should mention The Beatles.

And, I'll put in a bid for a Japanese techno-pop band called Yellow Magic Orchestra.

But really, isn't it best to leave the punters wanting more ?

I agree with all of the above! anak, The original drummer's was Jimmy Chamberlin, then there was James Iha and the base player was D'Arcy.

James Iha was NOT marginally talented, he was a great guitar player! He was in A Pefect Circle with the guy from tool. D'Arcy just looked good.

I would like to add The Toadies, but they got back together last year. Also Sublime, but somebody would have to come back from the dead.... RIP Bradley Nowell

New Order. Well, technically they haven't disbanded but they're not the same w/o Peter Hook on the bass...

Reunions largely disappoint, so there are not many bands I would wish to re-group. I think when such things happen, the band members should go under a different band name - recapturing that magic spark is very rare indeed (and, of course, people change both personally and artistically).

As for The Smiths, no f***ing way! Morrissey's lyrical consistency went downhill just before he went through a long period without a record deal (and he hasn't really been the same since). However, if such a thing DID happen, it would have to be on the condition that Stephen Street was their producer, as well as artistic director (along with Johnny Marr). IMHO, these two individuals made Morrissey and not the other way round - just compare Morrissey's post-Street output (with the exception of 'Vauxhall & I') against anything before 1990. Enough said.

No actually James Iha was/is a subpar guitarist. Corgan was forced to redo all his work in the studio sincei t was unacceptable. This is one reason the two parted on bitter terms. On his solo effort, Iha's futility came through again. He's just not that talented.

Maynard is a stud though I far prefer Tool to Perfect Circle..

I saw Remy Zero at a small dive bar in Hoboken NJ. It was right when the "Golden Hum" was released. I got there early and sat at the bar next to a tall bald man. It turned out to be Cinjun Tate (the lead singer). We talked a while and exchanged email addresses. He was real cool but I asked him why his band gets no press. He was a little depressed sounding and said my guess was as good as his and the band is about to go kaput. It's real sad. The whole band was real down to earth and they gave a HELL of a live show. I used to email with Cinjun's sister back and forth for a while but have since lost contact with them.

Cheers,
Al

Thanks Mr Reasonable,

I was alert to HASYMO; and only recently found about the two shows YMO did last year (London for the Meltdown Festival, and another in Gijon in Spain). Coincidentally the CDs arrived last night, and I'm looking forward to hearing the new material.

True dat. Listen to the vocal isolated track of "Black Hole Sun" and especially "Spoonman". What a tremendous voice for rock.

I saw Pavement many times back in the 90s. A much sloppier live band than The Jicks, but arguably better songs.

Sebadoh I believe is still together

Husker Du I saw on their last tour a million years ago. Memorable show, and they walked out to talk with the audience after the gig.

Man I would have loved to see Pavement in the 90s but I was so young and didn't frequent a lot of shows.

I would also love to see Pink Floyd and Joy Division reunite, but I feel like both are totally impossible, obviously with the latter being only possible with some sort of twisted necromancy

Blur!

Pavement, Polvo and Smashing Pumpkins. The latter was my fave back in the day, and while it would be cool to see them together again, Billy's new stuff doesn't excite me at all.
