Formal Summer Scent

Thread Starter
Does anyone have suggestions for a formal scent (or scents) to wear during the summer?

Most "summer" fragrances I've tried are much to casual for black tie or other dressy occasions in warm weather; other fragrances project too much.

Maybe Creed Néroli Sauvage or Annick Goutal Musc Nomade?

Thank you in advance.

Terre de Hermes by Hermes
Habit Rouge (the Eau de Cologne version) by Guerlain
Vetiver by Guerlain
Roadster by Cartier
Infusion d'Homme by Prada
Polo Modern Reserve by Ralph Lauren

To name a few...

I've tried Polo Modern Reserve and Guerlain Vetiver but one small spritz of either one is still much to strong for me (and tend to make me sneeze)--thats why I was looking at Creeds and Annick Goutals, they do not make me sneeze. The Habit Rouge EDC seems intriguing though.

Creed Néroli Sauvage leaves the skin quickly, unfortunately. Too bad, because it's a really good one.

TDC's Un Parfum des Sens et Bois
Montale's Royal Aoud
Platinum Egoiste

I second the tom ford. DG The one for men could pass as a bit dressed up. Creed Himalaya is good too.

Acqua di Parma Colonia (Original)

Would Sisley's Eau de Campagne or Bond's Gramercy Park work?

Is there something along the lines on Bois du Portugal for summer?

Try Acqua Di Parma Colonia Intensa as well. Get a sample from Http://theperfumedcourt.com or you can try it at Nieman's or Saks.

I'll second the Aqua di Parma suggestions, and add that eau de colognes and frags that are on the borderline of Chypreland always seem like a good formal choice to me: Chanel Pour Monsieur and Monsieur de Givenchy are two in this vein that lots of people love.
For something less traditional but still restrained and gentlemanly, I like MPG's Iris Bleu Gris.

You could give Platinum Egoiste a try. It's more summer oriented than L'Egoiste and still very classy.

Hi Lancette and welcome.
The Creed Neroli Sauvage is a great choice, it has substance, feels clean, and is not too 'dressy'.
Another great one is Hermes- Equipage it is pure subtlety, yet polished.
Enjoy and good luck

You have two great suggestions already- Creed Himalaya and and Acqua di Parma. If you have the opportunity, seek out Lanvin for men as well.

During the summer when I need a more formal scent I go with either Roberto Cavalli (poor longevity though), or Antidote.

Chevalier d'Orsay and Arome 3 by d'Orsay are both very refined and excellent in warm weather.

I sceond all the citrus fragrances mentioned so far (AdP Colonia, Signoricci, Neroli Sauvage, etc) and Habit Rouge.
i will add Allure Homme Sport Cologne (citrus), CdG 2 Man (light woody oriental, woorks well in the heat), Eau d'Cartier (peper and violets), Declaration (citrus more or less), Navegar L'Artisan (herbal), Leau d'gouverneur (citrus and green), YSL L'Homme (Aromatic, light and formal) and Silver Mountain Water (fruits and herbs), 212 CH.

I second the AdPs and Chanel Pour Monsieur for a sophisticated formal summer scent. I noticed a few nods to Himalaya but I don't think I could wear it in warm weather; I'm afraid the ambergris note would start to become a bit too overpowering.
