The perfect "Oh hey, you're laid off" scent

sigh

Anyone hook me up with a job in Vancouver?

Daniel Moliere's Tam Dao (Diptyque). I hadn't heard of him until I looked him up just now. He also did Insense and Eau de Givenchy. Also something called "Chupa Chups Night Fever".

Diorissimo by Christian Dior (from a sample - thanks lilybelle)

OK, so I finally get what lily of the valley smells like. Like it has been noted, it recalls detergents, soaps...maybe a whiff of dishwashing machine rinse aid. But the Dior is very smooth, elegant...clean. I think I'm testing the 'new' formulation...since I smell absolutely no trace of anything animalic which I believe was what the vintage (Roudnitska created) juice smelled like. Nonetheless, it's lovely.

Ocean Rain by Mario Valentino (first time from a sample - thanks Ruggles)

This is really nice. The strangest aquatic I've ever smelled. It doesn't smell like water, or the sea...rather a plant or soil that is near the water. It has a mineralic almost vitamin supplement accord that is part synthetic, part salt. Head spinning stuff. I love it!

Sampling Profumi del Forte: Tirrenico

A fairly long-lasting citrus/aromatic/marine, must be for people who prefer their beaches to still have some Nature attached.

Okay, so it's decant day again, thanks to Dr.Bubba. SOTD: Costume National Scent Intense. Very nice - it reminds me a bit of the Llewellyn Stardust I wore yesterday, but I do not like it quite as well. Still very good though.

Oh, BTW, I have a 50mL Armani Prive Bois de Encens FS with box. Only 2 spritzes gone. PM me an offer if interested.

I missed yesterday, so I'm catching up...

Yesterday's SOTD: my first test of Méchant Loup by L'Artisan Parfumeur.

The description on the sample card said something about a whole forest full of woods with a heart of hazelnut. To me, it was straight-up pipe tobacco.

It was really nice, like if you took the vanilla and clove out of Tobacco Vanille. It smelled good and spent most of the day trying to convince myself to fall in love with it, but it just didn't happen. I think I really like my tobacco notes played against a gourmand base.

Just to make sure, I threw on some Hermèssence Ambre Narguilé to compare for my SOTE and the Ambre almost knocked me over with how much I loved it...

To catch up, today's SOTD was my first test of Drôle de Rose by L'Artisan Parfumeur.

It opened with rose and violets, which were quickly joined by a thick, manly haze of dirt and pepper (imagine Terre de Hermes with flowers instead of oranges). Just as I was getting ready to declare this bottle-worthy, all the pepper and haze faded away and were replaced by berries.

The combination of berries and rose with a pinch of violet has been described as the scent of a tube of lipstick.

So, I loved the first hour and was kind of bored by the rest.

Oh well...
