Help to choose a fragrance for a friend

This friend of mine has been making fun (in good spirit) of my fascination with fragrances, which is ok, he thinks he is cool for wearing nothing and I have not a problem with that. However today he sent me an email saying that "after all that thing of wearing a fragrance is not a such a crazy idea.Help me to pick one".
I asked him several questions to get an idea what to advise him.

He never wears a suit and his is very laid back, casual. He is 38.
He does not like strong fragrances, he wants something rather light. He does not like woody scents, he tends to enjoy sweet. (I think he does not really mean sweet in a fruity way perhaps he is referring to an aquatic accord).
He wants something versatile with an elegant flavor, casual but with a classy touch. He is planning to wear it for nights out, evening time, although he said to me "if I like it I would wear it all day long".

I have been thinking that perhaps good choices would be Mugler cologne? XS? Even Rive Gauche could be somehow of his taste.
Any opinions please?

this is a guy that is always in a good mood, likes grunge music and does not give a rat ars about wearing a nice suit. He is not good looking nor sophisticated but he is a lot of fun, very sharp and "alternative", he is charming on his own way, too much energy, he makes me tired (and I am hyperactive).

Milissime imperial could work as well.

I would say Platinum Egoiste should fit the bill.

All above look good - no-one's mentioned Green Irish Tweed yet - I wore that at 38 (no suit) and pretty versatile day or night. Diro Homme seems to be getting some good general press . . . bit younger and brighter?

YSL L Homme , SMW, Himalaya comes to mind.

I was also thinking Rive Gauche until you mentioned it at the end of your post >.>

Himalaya or Green Irish Tweed.

L'Anarchist would also work, so would Terre d'Hermes

Montale's Fougeres Marines sounds like an option; not sure its price in euros.

Bvlgari Pour Homme Soir would be ideal, although it's not exactly aquatic, but it matches all these other criteria.

I think Mugler is an excellent choice along with Gendarme.

Sweeter side, not woody, and not overpowering scent?

Have him try Chergui.

m7 fresh, terre d'hermes, and millesime imperial; incredibly hard to offend (well, maybe not tdh) and very easy to love.

GIT, Mugler, AdP Colonia Assolluta, or Bulgari pour Homme are all great introductory frags with user-friendly accords

Gucci Pour Homme two fits the description perfectly.
