It seems winter wanted to take one last bow before exiting stage left as it is downright cold at Stately Somerville Manor this morning. Therefore I need to grab some roses.

Czech & Speake #88

Are there floral scents that are masculine? There are certainly men who can wear floral scents but is there a floral scent out there that any man can wear? There are probably many but I would gues that at the top of many colognoisseur's list would be the 1981 creation of John Stephen, Czech & Speake #88. What is remarkable about Czech & Speake #88 is that out of seven listed notes only three are non-floral and to my nose I don't really smell two of them. This is a highly skilled composition which mix a number of floral notes in a very muscular style. The top comes across first with geranium, there is supposed to be bergamot here but I never get any hint of that. In many ways geranium comes off as a lighter rose and that leads perfectly into the heart as rose does take over. This gives the effect of a slowly ripening rose accord as you move from top to heart. Just as the rose begins to recede in comes a mix of cassie and frangipani to keep things on the deeper side. The scent finishes off with a huge slug of sanadalwood and the mix of the rose and sandalwood is marvelous. This last part of the scent, the mix of rose and sandalwood, lasts for a very long time and it is what you take away from a day of wearing this scent. So go ahead guys while you might not put a flower in your hair, spraying some Czech & Speake on your skin is not so scary.

Today - FINALLY trying Ormonde Jayne's Ormonde Woman. I see why this gets a lot of love here. Absolutely stunning leafy foresty goodness.

Last night - the SO brought home a refill of his Fahrenheit and a new cologne - Hugo by Hugo Boss.

Of course, I had to try it. Aquatic at the top drying down to a long lasting, slightly powdery citrus.

He told me he liked it because it smelled "clean." Definitely that. It actually reminded me of old school Clarol Herbal Essence (though I admit that I have not smelled Herbal Essence in a very long time).

I suspect this will become his "golf scent." He finds it inoffensive. Lots of similarities to Davidoff Cool Water in this one.

He was a bit concerned when I sprayed it on myself.
"You aren't planning on wearing this yourself, are you?"
"No dear, not my taste. Besides, this will smell better on you."

I still prefer him in the Farenheit.
May have him try Green Irish Tweed later this week if he is looking for new cologne.

Un Jardin en Mediteranee again. I've been wearing it so much I that inspected the bottle this morning but I don't see the leve going down.

Today I am wearing Diptyque's Eau de Lierre, from a sample. It's nice! Very green and fresh. But why do all of these greens seem so clean on me? Nanadebary, Gucci Envy, this one too, all seem sort of freshly shampooed to me. Anyone know of any deep, dark, mysterious, slightly dirty greens? Maybe I'll start a thread, or search around a bit because I'm sure somebody has probably asked that question before...

Well, well - you have hit the big EIGHT-OH, and I have hit the big FIVE-OH. That feels kind of neat!

I am always a bit of a hotchpotch scentwise, and today is no different. Testing Ulrich Lang Anvers 2 (scrummy!) and L'Artisan Piment Brulant, and wearing Armani She White (courtesy of Lovethescents) and a timorous snifter of Cabochard (thanks, Soirdelune!). It has historic significance as my birth year scent and enough attitude for the both of us. : - )

Thanks to everyone for the dazzling array of cakes and fruit. Let's not forget we can make healthy food choices, though I will just have a bit of cake first.....

OH! What wonderful birthdays! (See, eight-oh and five-oh!) Congratulations, Tao, VM I Hate Civet and KiatBKK.I'm so glad I made it back in time.

Yup, I'm home!
Amusingly, the worst problem I have is... wind. I's pretty normal for the situation, apparently, but it's pretty funny to have a big op and no real pain or problems apart from rolling around trying to get the bubbles out of your innards!

Small got her birthday present today: her first bike. She loves it and demanded I take a photo of her riding it, with her adored sidekick and BFF Noel sitting in the basket on the front. Sooooo sweet!

My SOTD so far has been Lolita Lempicka, but in honour of my dear friend Tao, who has been an amazing shoulder to cry on in times of pants-wetting scaredness, I will be wearing Habanita, which always makes me think of her.

Costume National Scent Gloss: rose, purple orchid, fresh musk. Another favorite, light spring scent. (Thank you, A.!)
