Non-offensive Classics

Thread Starter
I'm not really looking for comments or responses like "Who gives a flying $&#!* who you offend" or "I wear feminine scents 'cuz I'm badass" (although I do enjoy them ).

The real question is: What scents do you consider to be non-offensive and classic (but feel free to write about Paco-Sweet-thread-deemed classics and soon-to-be classics).

So far I can think of the obvious:

Gendarme
L'eau D'Hadrien
Green Irish Tweed
Bulgari Pour Homme
Mugler Cologne
Guerlain Vetiver
Eau Sauvage
Eau d'Orange Verte

Chanel pour monsieur concentree
Tiffany for Men
Pour Monsieur '55 (not concentre)
Guerlain Jicky & Mouchoir
Polo
Rochas Moustache
Knize Ten

to name a few... but 'classic' and 'non offensive' are subjective. I'd say Eau d'Hermes but some people don't like the cumin note.

Floris's JF and Guerlain's Imperiale

Dunhill Edition

Equipage and Monsieur de Givenchy for sure. They're both very dry, discreet fragrances that just defy all fragrance trends and have ALWAYS smelled good, never outdated. They're also quite unique and stand out among today's boring aquatic, sport and Aqui da Gio clones. Some people, however, think they're too discreet, with not enough sillage.

Heritage by Guerlain, of course.

2nd Eau Sauvage,Monsieur de Givenchy and Guerlain Vetiver and would add

Minotaure
Paco Rabanne PH
Grey Flannel
Drakkar Noir
Tuscany
900
Jazz

No doubt !!! Terrific scent and good enough for me to have FB's as backups.

I also think Etienne Aigner#1 fits this bill along with KL Homme.

sorry to deviate, just wanted to ask if 45USD is a decent deal on 100ml edt of the mention thanks in advance.
$45 sounds like a decent deal. Just with a quick internet search, most places have the 3.4 oz. Heritage EDT marked from $55 to $67. A few have the 3.4 oz EDT marked down to $27.50, but they're all out of stock. In fact, none of the places I checked had it in stock.

Creed's MI and SMW both fit the bill.

Future non-offensive classics (imagine the day when these are "old guy" scents) might include Terre d'Hermès, YSL L'Homme, D&G the one for men, and Varvatos. I think I'm basing this on the fact that they're popular designer scents right now, and that they will probably still be bringing in cash (and thereby getting some endurance respect) at that time. Dior Homme...? Not sure about that one. Future classic to be sure, but perhaps too distinctive to be considered inoffensive by everybody.

The range(prices) was the reason why i asked here; tried it at a usual haunt, liked it enough to consider, but there were only 3 left on the shelf. hesitant only because i had a cheaper option in Kenzo Tokyo in mind too. thanks for replying, appreciate it

Shows how integral BN is, and will be, in spreading the love

Great suggestions were presented.
I`d add some more:
Bel Ami Hermes
Derby Guerlain
Caron pour un homme or other decent lavender of choice (Goutal etc)
to make vetiver even less offensive - choose Givenchy instead of Guerlain

This i have to try....

May i also add Loewe Solo to the "modern classic" billing.

I think the least offensive classic is 3rd Man by Caron. I get complimented pretty much every time I wear this. It is soooo effortlessly classy and smells great in almost every situation imaginable.

I wore Caron Pour Un Homme to work today, and a co-worker definitely found it offensive. I believe his exact words were "What is that horrible smell?".

Oh well, you can't please everyone....

While I don't find Antaeus offensive, I can easily see how some can, it's a very powerful fragrance.

Grey Flannel?! That must be one of the KINGS of offensiveness! I hate that miserable swill.

My choices:
Chez Bond by Bond No. 9 (I do find this to be a classic as it's a smoother, more modern interpretation of a classic, Green Irish tweed
Platinum Egoiste by Chanel
Allure Homme Sport by Chanel
Chrome by Azzaro

All fresh frags unlikely to offend anyone, but at the top of their category.

When I think of classics, I think of distinct and offensive scents like: Kouros, Polo, Drakkar Noir, A*Men, etc.
For men all perfumes can be ruined as long as Third Man remains and I'll get over the shock of all others being gone within a week.

for women, hmm Datura Noir maybe? La chasse by L' artisan, Songes by Annick Goutal. They are fairly safe inoffensive but still pretty. They wouldn't help me if all other women fragrances were ruined though They are a bit too dull for that, I'd steal Third Man for myself then.

Azzaro

Equipage - Hermes
Etienne Aigner no.2

No disrespect my fellow BNer, but I find Carons ( this one espcially along with Yatagan) to be extremly offensive. 3rd Man for me is just too sweet and "perfumey". But I am happy it works for you ( different strokes for different blokes )

That "classic" (whatever that means) somehow equates with "offensive" is an entertainingly daft idea to begin with. Assuming that by "classic" we mean a scent that endures in critical respect and/or popularity or is recognized as an outstanding example of its fragrance genre, then classic scents encompass a vast number of styles, each of which has a varying potential to offend certain individuals. For instance, classics of extreme or unusual character (Kouros, Yatagan, Eau d'Hermes) or great potency (A*Men, Fracas, Knize Ten) may have more potential to offend than understated or conventional classics like Eau Sauvage, Acqua di Parma Colonia, or Givenchy Vetiver. (That said, I'm sure someone will respond that Acqua di Parma Colonia makes them nauseous.)

With that out of the way, here are a few (men's) scents that I think of as classics and seem unlikely to offend any but the most irritable of noses:

Eau Sauvage
Eau de Guerlain
Acqua di Parma Colonia and Colonia Assoluta
Givenchy Vetyver
Monsieur Balmain
Devin
New York
Héritage (?)
Green Irish Tweed

...and a few that I imagine could more easily offend:

Knize Ten
Muscs Koublaï Khan
Eau d'Hermes
Yatagan
Kouros
Ambre Sultan
Ungaro II
Musc Ravageur
No. 88
Maxim's pour Homme
Jicky
Déclaration
Azzaro pour Homme
Aramis
