Hey fellow Windy City BNers -

Frederic Malle will be at Barneys in downtown Chicago tomorrow, June 4 from 4 - 7 pm - presumably promoting Geranium PM.

Hmmmmm......Father's Day IS just around the corner.

I was just about to post the same thing. I was visiting Chicago and stopped by Barney's. Got some Vetiver Extraordinaire while I was there.

May have to stop by after work. Anybody have any questions/comments they wish to have me pass along?

I work near Oak Park, and tend to work a little later than most, but i'm gonna try to shoot over there if i can. I wanna check out there other stuff, too, as well as the brand new location they moved into.

Keep an eye out for a dude with a shaved head and brown skin!

If you go manicboy (or anyone, for that matter) ask him:

1. Why the delay in releasing Geranium Pour Monsieur here in the US? Was there a problem in production?

2. In the press release for GPM, Malle stated that he was inspired by the soaps from his childhood and the smells of them, when he took this idea to Ropion, etc... Ask him what soap he uses now - at home.

3. Tell him that us colognoisseurs here on Basenotes thank him for taking the lead in going further than most descriptions of fragrances these days, and giving out a list of synthetic molecules in GPM (ingredients for the fragrance are: Mint absolute MD by laboratoire Monique Rémy, (by molecular distillation), peppermint essence, Chinese geranium essence, Rhodinol, Anethone, Floralozone/cinnamon CO2, clove essence/white musks cocktail, Ambroxan, sandalwood, incense resinoid, Siam benzoin resinoid). BIG thumbs up!

Spent about 15 minutes chatting with Monsieur Malle. First of all, he's very laid back and personable. No attitude here. We chatted about Geranium pm (there was no delay in the US release, it just takes time to make it over on the boat from Europe) and he said they "expanded" some of the notes but I've forgotten which ones. He also elaborated that old soaps from Floris & Guerlain that he used when he was a kid were the inspiration. He added that he primarily uses his own soaps for personal use. I also asked what he wore when he was growing up and he said Eau Sauvage, Z-14, Pino S, & Acqua di Selva. He also had praise for Lagerfeld Classic and the Annick Goutal incense series. Further, he said he detests "romantic" fougeres, but I did not ask him which ones.

Spraying Geranium pm on the card failed to impress me as I do not like mint, but I did get a sample so I'll have to see how it dries down. Will report my findings later. Note that there were a lot of ladies buying it. Can't say whether it was for them or their men.
