Holy Grail Citrus Award

Thread Starter
I have been working out and to mix it up a bit to shock my body so it doesn't get use to the same routine, I recently took the martial arts back up. I have been trying to loose weight so I am finding new and exciting ways to keep it fresh. I thought the martial arts might be worth doing instead of hot yoga per se.

Anyways, I wore a very well known green woody citrus to training tonight and it was magic! I can't think of any situation where this isn't perfect. Whether you do marital arts, work out at the gym, rake leaves, study, scratch the nether regions, marlin fishing, sky diving, or what have you, my holy grail citrus award that is worthy of praises upon high, goes to........Eau D' Orange Vert by Hermes! There is simply no better citrus in my book! So which citrus does your award go to?
I love Neroli Sauvage.

Better buy a flacon though because you need to bathe in it.
Jean Marie Farina Extra Vieille holds that place of honor for me. I just love the rose note - very masculine!
Eau D'Orange Verte is incredible, agreed.
If we're talking strictly magic and beauty and quality, with longevity not meaning a thing...Citrus Biggarade, Guerlain Imperiale, and Eau D'Orange Verte are way up there. Neroli Sauvage, for the first 10 seconds, before the lemon terpenes fade, is INCREDIBLE, but it's too sweet after that for me.

But I facor in longevity, so my top 3 citrus grails are:
Concentre D'Orange Verte
Selection Verte
Maitre's Eau Pour Le Jeune

Honorable mention shout to Miller Harris Tangerine Vert
*fututre hex on anyone who says Little Italy*
post #5 of 77
Eau du Sud by Annick Goutal changed my attitude about citrus fragrances forever. Very good longevity, too.
Almost forgot:
Honorable shout to Truefitt & Hill West Indian Limes.....for being the wettest, funnest lime scent available.
Concentre D'Orange Verte: perfect citrus in my book
Eau d'Hadrien: although more lemon than citrus, is fantastic to layer with gourmands
Orange Alhambra: my new citrus love. Herbs and citrus done right

I have tried EdOV and would like to get a bottle at some point - it's just a classic. I have worn Acqua di Parma for 15+ years so it is my reset mode HG. I recently discovered The Different Comapny Bergamote. It's pretty 'single minded, single note' and fleeting but I keep a bottle at the office as a wake up call. I scored their 250 ml 'Estagan' at a good price online (lusciouscargo) which is aluminium and touted as 'gym bag friendly'. Pricy for an EdC but really refreshing.
Guerlain's Eau Imperiale is a keeper, but I would also vote for Eau de Fleurs de Cedrat. That one is on my top 5 to-buy list. I'm not a big fan of straight-on orange, but Fleurs de Cedrat hits just the right balance.
For me, it's Millesime Imperial, that bright metallic citrus makes my day!

A close second goes to Montale Bois Fruite
post #12 of 77
Neroli sauvage broke my heart with it's batch to batch variation.

My holy grail citrus is Selection Verte, I guess... I'm not a big citrus fan to begin with.

Honorable mentions:

1. Eau du Coq
2. Mugler Cologne
3. Eau de Campagne

and...

Eau pour le Jeune homme
Eau D'orange Verte
Les Nuits D'hadrien
Eau de Patou
Guerlain Philtre d'Amour

Hands down, by far and away. Obscure. Pricey. Worth it - try it and see.
I'm not the world's greatest citrus fan, but I'd have to split my vote between Bahiana and Citrus Paradisi, with Eau de Fleurs de Cédrat and Czech & Speake Neroli close behind.

I definately will pick up Guerlain's imperial one day. I forgot about that one. EDOV lasts on me for whatever reason. I don't like the concentree as much because the papaya note, to my nose, it too prominent and not as balanced. Selection vert by creed is nice as well but when I use to wear it, it could get cloying at times on me.
Sous le Vent gets my vote!
Philtre d' Amour by Guerlain. Runner up: Acqua Viva by Profumum

Oddly, I own neither. Yet.

Oh and good luck with the working out Scentologist!
I'm not a big fan of citrus either, mainly because real citrus fragrances are relatively straightforward and a bit boring. That's why I like AdP Colonia and Mona DiOrio Lux, because they transition into something else so I can get a citrus fix first and then a bit more interesting fragrance afterwards.

C&S Neroli - Wowzers
Another flawless citrus and my all-time favorite (sadly, as with all good scents, reformulated and this demoted): Armani PH

More than honorable fellow members of this category:

YSL Rive Gauche PH, ADP (including sub-ranges, flankers and so on ), Boucheron PH
post #22 of 77
Eau de Guerlain
Eau de Rochas
Li Altarelli de Saint-Aignan
EdOV for me too.
My vote goes to Concentre D'Orange Verte
Call me crazy, but Versace PH.

I get a wonderful tart citrus opening, a beautiful sage sweetened with florals (hyacinth?), a very nice oud/cedar stage that smells *very* remeniscent of Let Me Play the Lion, and then a light dry/warm mineral note with just a tiny hint of sweetness. I find it must be sprayed on exposed skin to fully appreciate it as when sprayed only on the chest some of the details are lost.

Honorable mentions to AdP Colonia, Homme Des Gres, and Lemon EdT.
bigarade concentree
live jazz
hermes( the one in the green flask, missed the name)
AdP Colonia Intensa

I like citrus, but it has to have longevity. I am not buying/owning anything with a 30 minute life-span.
I am not really a citrus guy, it isn´t me and I don´t think it agrees with my body chemistry or something. But still I am really amazed by Neroli by Czech & Speake. I get great longevity too.

That one is like releasing a genie from the bottle. Such a blast of powerful citrus goodness.

Etro Lemon Sorbet
Guerlain Eau de Cologne Impériale
Neroli Sauvage is my current fav
AdP Colonia for me.
Trophée Lancôme
Acqua di Parma Colonia for me as well; I just love the stuff.
Nina Ricci Signoricci
The obvious answer would be AdP Colonia Assoluta, but I don't regard it 100% citrus scent.
But what a true citrus and very good is Parfums de Nicolai Cologne Sologne. Breath-takingly beautiful, alas too short-lived.

Monsieur Balmain!

How would you compare this one (especially the lemon/citrus notes) to:
1. Blenheim Bouquet
2. Bowling Green
3. Allure Blanche
4. Bois De Cedrat

Which lemon most closely resembles the Trophee lemon in sweetness/acidity ?
And is the base herbal/green like the first two, or dry like 3&4 ?
If you don't mind, can you make a likewise comparison for Monsieur Balmain to the 4 aforementioned lemon notes?

They all pale in comparison with Monsieur Balmain´s strong and durable lemon note and it´s wonderful sandelwood drydown!

Monsieur Balmain was a scrubber for me.

My citrus staple for summer months is Montana Pour homme (blue box).....It's dirt cheap and longevity is amazing....the drydown is very musky however...
I got in the mail today Blu Mediterraneo Fico di Amalfi - amazing stuff - citrus and fig.
Not the biggest fan of citrus scents, tho I like nearly all the ones I've sampled.

I couldn't believe how much I didn't care for Monsieur Balmain after hearing all the praise it receives on BN. Lemon furniture polish was what I got out of it and was an instant scrubber.

This one is great. Only to be edged out slightly by Neroli Sauvage, my all time favorite citrus. The Monegal Naranjas and Mark Birley tied for third, but neither last as long.
I am arriving at the conclusion that the Holy Grail of Citrus scents is:

Chanel Eau de Cologne.
Of course, no edt can surpass a true cologne when it comes to the beauty of citrus, for colognes submit to the very effervescence and brightness that makes citruses so attractive in the first place. My own vote goes to Imperiale. However, for what I think of as a 'fortified citrus', I have found nothing better than Blenheim Bouquet. The citrus top is remarkably refreshing - and combines most enjoyably with the pine below it.
Le Labo Bergamote 22 -- smooth, nothing sharp, and doesn't have that bathroom cleaner vibe that most citrus fragrances have.
Orange Sanguine probably, but it's too weak still.

If Azure Lime lasted longer it'd be the perfect citrus scent
