Which is the best CITRUS fragrance (for men or unisex)?
I would say Hermes--Concentree d'Orange Vert and Dior--Eau Sauvage, though I haven't sampled Eau de Pamplemousse Rose or Acqua di Parma yet.
I would say Aqua di Parma Colonia (and Assoluta and Intensa)
The 2 I like the best are Eau de Sud and Ricci Club Haute ( which is more complex and heavier.)

There is no such thing as the 'best' citrus fragrance, I think it is much more appropriate to ask for a consensus amongst a given quorum.
My vote goes to Monsieur Balmain. A straight up and down citrus that never stops giving.
The best one is the one that works best on you. Many good suggestions have been given (including what I would have suggested - Eau Sauvage and/or Acqua di Parma). Have fun trying out a few and see what works.
Everyone's opinion will differ on what is "the best". Some citrus fragrances that are my favorites include:

Acqua di Parma Colonia Intensa
Laura Tonatto Albi
Laura Tonatto Iss
Annick Goutal Eau du Sud
Nina Ricci Signoricci
Nina Ricci Ricci Club Haute Concentration
Yves Saint-Laurent Pour Homme Concentree
Maitre Parfumeur et Gantier Fraiche Badiane
Guerlain Aqua Allegoria Pamplelune
Yves Saint-Laurent Live Jazz

I haven't tried citrus scent much enough, but Agua Fresca by Adolfo Dominguez is my choice at the moment.

I would agree! Personally I love Intensa, but I also really like Assoluta as well. Really can't go wrong with any of em'.

Edit: And Hugh Parsons Blue. It smells FAR more expensive than it's price tag indicates.
My personal holy grail citrus is Guerlain Philtre d'Amour. Your favorite may differ (but everyone should try PdA!).
My favorites, which just happen to be unisex, Frederic Malle Bigarade Concentree and Annick Goutal Mandragore.
I like Neroli Sauvage

Yep!
Signoricci, Acqua di Parma Colonia, Eau Sauvage, or Annick Goutal's Eau d'Hadrien.
I second Laura Tonatto's Albi & Iss...
Monsieur Balmain or Bigarade Concentree, but I haven't tried a lot of the other ones mentioned above.

LOL

IMO, the "BEST", most natural smelling, classy citrus scents are without question:

1. Creed Selection Verte (masculine citrus[lime, mandarin, lemon], with cooling mint, light clove, and wonderful green-floral base)
2. Hermes Concentre D'Orange Verte (unisex citrus[orange, lemon], with mango, papaya, and a patchouli/moss base)
3. Hermes Eau D'Orange Verte (unisex citrus [orange, lemon], with a light oakmoss base, short-lived but slightly more natural and less sweet than the concentre version)
4. Maitre Fraiche Badiane (classic citrus[tangerine, lemon], with a spicy star-anise base, surpisingly long lasting)
5. Creed Citrus Biggarade (classis citrus [bitter orange], incredible and delicious with an 18% oil concentration that still has poor longevity)
6. Maitre Eau Pour le Jeune homme (sweet citrus-flower/citrus[brazilian orange, lemon], long-lasting, sweet orange blossom (neroli) , with wonderful citrus top, and green leafy accents to support the star neroli)
7. Creed Neroli Sauvage (classic citrus-flower/citrus[bergamot, grapefruit, lemon] sweet, somewhat dry neroli scent with good longevity once the top notes fade leaving a sweet neroli flanked by leafy/herbal wild verbena (not lemon verbena), and a top that is near perfection for the 1st minute.
8. Miller Harris Tangerine Vert (unisex citrus[tangerine, lemon], fairly concentrated tangerine scent with green accents of petitgrain (leaves/branches from citrus tree)
9. Acqua Di Parma Colonia (classic floral/citrus[orange, lemon], long-lasting rose base with a lavender/citrus midrange, and tart, natural citrus top)
10. Acqua Di Parma Meditteraneo Arancia Di Capri (sharp unisex citrus[orange, lemon, grapefruit, tangerine], with moderate longevity, and a light base of spice/herb/musk

These scents all smell very natural, and very classy, so each one can legitimatly claim as a consensus "best".

Another scent I like, while not 100% natural-smelling (but still majority natural-smelling), is Truefitt & Hill's West Indian Limes (wet limes, other citrus, sweet long-lasting neroli&clove base)

Etro Lemon Sorbet

Basically look into Aqua di Parma.

I still have not tried either one. Eager to try Malle's, and if it is very similar to creed's citrus biggarade, but actually lasts without smelling synthetic, I'll buy.

Monsieur Balmain iv'e been scoping forever it seems, and no one has a tester locally. Been wanting to buy blind, but the mixed reviews put me off. Does it smell as sour/woody as Bois De Cedrat ? or more sweet like AOS Lemon EDT ? Which other lemon note or lemon scent would anyone compare it's lasting lemon note to ?

No mean to hijack, Fredrik, but this may help you also, if a lemon scent is the citrus you like.

Another scent that isn't really unisex, very masculine, but could easily be classed "best", is Geurlain's Imperiale, but it's a true edc, and has abysmal longevity[worse than ed'ov], but while it's around it's tremendous.
I've been loving L'eau de Tarocco, which is definitely unisex...of course it is all about orange, so if you're looking for something more generically citrus it might not do.
In my humble opinion, my absolute favorite: Armani Eau pour Homme (1984), but this is just a strictly personal impression.
my favorites in the citrus arena are:

Acqua di Parma Colonia, and Fresh's Citron de Vigne.
"Best" is really too simplistic. Some of my favorites are:

Citrus Paradisi
Acqua di Parma Colonia Assoluta
Czech & Speake Neroli
Monsieur Balmain
Bahiana
Iskander
Eau de Fleurs de Cédrat
Eau de Guerlain
Eau de Sud
Eau Sauvage
Eau Nueve
Eau de Gloire
Cristalle
Light Blue pour homme
I am surprised no one has mentioned Eau de Patou pour homme, yet.
The rate at which all those bottles disappeared from 'xmen's' sales thread, I thought I'd see it mentioned here.
Monsieur Balmain
Above disclaimers regarding "BEST" apply:

Acqua di Parma Colonia and Colonia Assoluta
Lubin's L'eau Neuve
Geo F Trumper GFT
Eau de Guerlain has my attention. I wore it this past Saturday evening. A first class trip through the notes as a bright and well thought out citrus.
My favorite citrus is Acqua di Parma Colonia. At least for now!

There is no best citrus, as there are many excellent choices.

However, the question is too broad. Citrus includes numerous notes, including lemon, lime, grapefruit, orange, kumquat, etc.

It isn't fair to lump them together.
My favourites would be Acqua di Parma and C&S's Neroli, by far
post #33 of 159
Eau Sauvage, CK one and Leau D Issey
Hermes Concentree d' Orange Verte
I am a big fan of citrus fragrances.
Based on these reviews i have just ordered monsieur balmain.

But up Till know my favourite has been "FERRARI LIGHT ESSENCE".
It is a citrusy, fruity, zesty, fresh, , sparkling, lingering fragrance superb for hot and humid summers. I wonder why it is not even listed on Basenotes. It has an awsome combination of green apples, lemon and melon.

WOW.....

A MUST HAVE FOR LOVERS OF CITRUSY FRAGS.

YSL Pour Homme and /or the Haute Concentration. I actually prefer the original.

I own and love Eau Sauvage, eau d'Orange Verte, Aqua di Parma Colonia.

So many others named are also great.

Fresh--Hesperides is a huge citrus/grapefruit monster off the top. Not something I'd probably wear.

+1 for L'eau de Tarocco. Orange, grapefruit, cinnamon, incense. Lovely.
AdP Colonia or Assoluta (others have mentioned Intensa, but it doesn't have a significant citrus component IMO)

Penhaligon's Castile

Czech and Speake Neroli
I'm not the biggest citrus fan, but my favorite is Eau Sauvage.

I absolutely agree with your impression of Chanel Allure Edition Blanche. By the way, Tristan refereed to a Concentree version of Edition Blanche. Is anybody aware of a Concentree version? I am not.

It's only available in one concentration - an eau de toilette concentree.

ADP Colonia Assoluta is superb. L'Eau D'Issey would be second of all that I have tried. I guess I like the citrus + woods combo.

Couldn't get over the baby powder note in Allure Blanche... Seemed to dominate the frag on my skin.
One that is really underrated is Loewe's Aqua
its really fresh and has an excellent drydown and pretty good lasting power
post #53 of 159
Eau Sauvage
No one has mentioned Homme de Gres, so I will put it out there.
Eau de Rochas pour Homme (EdR pour Homme is the vintage formulation of EdR Homme)
Eau de Guerlain (vintage)

Lime, Basil & Mandarin
Monsieur Balmain (vintage)
Eau du Coq (vintage)
Monsieur Givenchy (vintage)

hi! sorry to hijack this thread. How does Hermes Concentree d'Orange Verte compare to Terre D'Hermes
post #57 of 159
+1 Laura Tonatto Iss
+1 Creed Selection Verte
Two citrus fragrances that I think are outstanding but rarely mentioned are:

Iskander by Parfume d' Empire - this is a citron/mandarin/grapefruit citrus blast that is quickly softened and elevated by coriander and oakmoss. A beautiful citrus with soft light woods behind it. One of the best.

Cedrat Intense by Parfums Nicolai - An extremely bright and lively citrus punched up with patchouli and pepper. I read in an interview with Patricia Nicolai that she said this was her favorite fragrance of her recent creations. You have to look for the Intense version - it is more rare and hard to find - and it is not the same as the original Cedrat by Nicolai but , NO it is very INTENSE. Recomended!

Along with these two the Concentree d' Orange Verte, Hermes is a wonderful improvement on the original one OV by Hermes. Nice citrus that lasts . . . for a change.
hermes verte is good, but it lasts for what seems like 30 minutes. clinque happy is pretty nice too.
I like clinique happy doesn't last real long though
