Starting a new job

Thread Starter
Tomorrow I'm meant to be starting a new job. It's my first job since I left university. I'm kind of scared since it's an entirely new area for me, and as of October I'm going to go back to school to do a Masters degree.

There are so many thoughts rushing through my mind at the moment - what if I don't like it? what if I'll miss my 'new found freedom'? What if I'll end up being overworked and over wrought yet again?

I'm a natural worrier so these questions seem to come natural to me! What is one to do? any tips which can come useful when starting a new job?

You can leave.

Leave and be a partying slacker for a while. Soon enough you'll drift into loser-dom, miss having an income, desire the prestige of not being a slacker, and learn to balance freedom with responsibility. When you're young and single, there's plenty of time in every week for both.

Are the things overwhelming you also purging your peers from similar situations? Then leave. Find your balance. What has you feeling overwrought? Is it instead things most people can cope with generally? Talk to a counselor or psychiatrist. What, did you think education ends at the uni? Visiting a "shrink" allows you to learn about life outside of your major.

In the meantime, just go for it and try not to worry about it. Things will happen as they come. How can you have options if you don't make choices?

A,

Trust me when I say we are alike! Imma super worrier myself. Its very natural to miss school once you start working esp a desk-bound job! But its great to hear you're going back to do your masters at some point. I only did a year of university but stopped coz I did not like what I was doing: Marketing and the Media. I feel i sort of wasted completing those units in year 1. Over here its really hard to get a job that one can be passionate about, alot of my friends who graduated with me with a diploma in Mass Communications have ended up being air stewardess instead, coz of the traveling perks and pay and of course some prestige in being a Singapore Airline Girl

The only advice I would give is somewhat similar to AOG's, do take a short slacking stint to explore or indulge in hobbies that maybe more time consuming, Enjoy yourself within your means, but don't slack too long coz it'll make your brain rusty - thats what 2 years of mandatory military service did to me after my diploma, and I had a hard to adapting back to studying in Uni...

I do have open appointments with my psychiatrist of 8-9 years and some therapy counselors(i especially enjoy art therapy which allows me to express myself albeit with horrible drawing skills).

I'm tempted to tell you not to worry too much about your concerns, but I myself worry as much as you lol so...
