Rain

I just got my sample for By Man about 2 days ago.. and for some reason it reminds me of the rain.. and I love it! I'm not sure why.. but oh well. What scents either remind you of the rain, or maybe even smell like the rain?

Good question! Weirdly, every time it starts to drizzle, the first whiff I get is the vapors from the tarmac road, and this is the smell that I often associate with rain. Of course this smell doesn't last very long, and I get little whiffs of damp grass as well. So I guess the closest fragrance that reflects such an experience is Narciso Rodriguez For Him

Ineke's Derring-Do is supposedly described as smelling of rain.

NOW i can connect the dots of my previously unarticulated thoughts about NRfM! Gently warmed wet surfaces! Thanks, matthewfoo.

There's actually a word for this smell: petrichor; see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Petrichor

Ahhh, Matt, what your describing here is what I get from Olivier Durbano Jade. And while the smell is beautiful in nature, it's absolutely revolting in Jade. Though, there are other muddled things in Jade that I assume add to my hatred of it, that's what it reminds me of.

Well said! I *always* reach for NR for him on gloomy, rainy days. Nothing is more fitting, imo!

Demeter has a fragrance called Rain. Worth checking out.

Ca' Luna from Acqua di Biella is a rainy smell.

Metal edt (Paco Rabanne) reminds me of heavy rain. It's a very wet, green scent with a bit of "flesh" to it. It's not aquatic, it's just smells "rainy" or rather a flower garden that's been beaten by heavy summer rain. After a while, it dries down to a shampoo like scent (which reminds me of taking a shower.) I did try it on a rainy summer day, so that would be a reason why I associate it with rain.

Odeur 53 is another one that smells a little like rain. A bit cold and drizzly.

Geosmin is an organic compound at is responsible for the earth/rain odor.

Here is the article:http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Geosmin

Interesting thread! I enjoy rainy days, and the associated smells as well, so I need to check out some of the frags recommended here. For my part I will say that parts of M7 Fresh remind me a lot of the smell of wet earth/wood or a forest after rainfall.

Here's another one. Cumming smells like a rainy day in a deciduous forest.
I work with logs and trees everyday. Trust me, this scent smells like wet wood and bark, but in nice way.

I'm a pretty imaginative and creative person but the phrase "smells like rain" has alluded me.

Obviously you are not as "...imaginative ..." as you think. You have never been able to smell rain ? The smell of soaked streets, wood and grass ? Just rain in general gives an aroma.

Anyways, to the original poster, give Guy Laroche Horizon a shot. Its not my favorite, but I think the perfumer had an intention here.

This is one of the oddest scents ever. When I close my eyes it truly smells like the weird ozone smell in the air when it rains. Quite amazing actually.

I'm back again! Anyone have any other ideas? Although I might add "cloudy" and "gloomy" frags as good suggestions too. I want to emanate fall and it's gloomy cloudy coolness hahaa. Well, at least that's what it's like here in PA!

I get this same association with rain too, when there's a drizzle and for the first hour or so, and the smell of wet concrete comes out. Here in the PH it's called singaw and it's supposed to give you gas / indigestion / quesy stomach Not sure if it's an old wives tale/superstition, but I'd rather not smell like that hehe

You know, weirdly, I have always found this particular smell rather comforting.

Incidentally, it was raining pretty heavy the entire day and my SOTD is NR for him LOL.

BTW, I hope the typhoon situation there is getting better. Best wishes.

Now, I am really interested to know what a rain accord smells like here... Checked the directory and this fragrance happens to be discontinued. Thanks for sharing though.

CanwllCorfe, I wish I could think of something that matches your "rain" description of a cloudy and gloomy scent. Hope you manage to find something! The demeter suggestion seems rather fitting though..

The much hated BEYOND PARADISE FOR MEN actually smells wet.

Original tommy I think has a rain accord and reminds me a little bit of dampness/rain

Summerville Metro Man had a very nice review of his SOTD, City Rain by Neil Morris. Sounds really nice.
