American Football Fans?

post #1 of 23
Thread Starter
Inspiration from the other Football thread, has lead me to start this one for fans of the NFL! Are there any fans out there? I'm so pumped for the upcoming season, huge New York Jets fan here.

Amazing that there are Europeans that actually like American Football! Whenever I leave the country I always get asked why is it called Football??? you don't even USE YOUR FEET!!! Or Europeans always compare how Soccer is sooooo much more fun to watch. Hell, I like both. And the Aussies and Brits drive me nuts since they claim Aussie Rules or Rugby is so much tougher. Again, who cares enjoy the sport so I just laugh loudly and rudely in their face over such comments :^). I used to play football for many years and love it. Anyway like other pro sports the best stay the best and the worst stay the worst. It's too predictbale and a team like the Chiefs (with no QB now) or Jets (with an overrated bust of a QB) will sadly never do much more than perhaps flirt with a wild card exit. It'll be yet another year of the Patriots, Steelers, Giants, and Panthers with everyone else watching. The Titans, Cowboys, and Cardinals may make some noise but the rest is already written out like a Greek oracle. I'm a Dolphins and Giants fan but would love to see a team like the Lions win a Superbowl. There is more chance of world peace though. And i hope Vick has a career ending injury. Something spine related preferably.

I love watching [and falling asleep to] NFL games on a lazy Sunday afternoon. I'm an anti-bandwagon-er, which in this area means anti-Vikings. My boys latched onto the Green Bay Packers after Superbowl XXXI, and that makes it even more upsetting to see Favre in a Vikings jersey now.

IIRC, it's called football because the ball is (or was, originally) a foot long! And yes, rugby which I used to play and love to death is much tougher

I used to be a junior cheerleader for the Amsterdam Admirals.
The European league is small peanuts, though. Kinda like American soccer.

Many folks here are die-heart fans. I am not one of them...LOL. But a good friend of mine has Football Sunday every week and there is tons of food, liquids () and laughter. Every Sunday gets looked forward to by all and there is no name to describe it. Just off-da-chain.

Best,

Otto

Whaha, you're the effeminate bunch, playing with padding and a helmet lest your pretty face get a beating!

Go play a tral game of football. Trust me the last thing someone wants is a 250lb linebacker wearing another 50 pounds of "padding" as he crushes you with a tackle. But getting tackled by sweaty men with no padding in high shorts is like one of Bruno's dreams. Ist so sexy. Back when I played we had some rugby players from Germany try out. They got injured.

Big fan of the Pats here. Why? Well, I'm not sure why. Living in Utah means I could pick pretty much any team I want (though people here usually like the 49ers or the Broncos, I hate both) so I just picked the Pats when I was young. I've got Drew Bledsoe's jersey to prove that I didn't just jump on the bandwagon after they started winning though.

I can see I'm not the first person you've come across that insists rugby is tougher than American football I don't understand though, do you perhaps believe the average rugby player weighs 150lbs and attacks with a dildo in hand*?

* Brüno reference

I'm a big Dolphins fan as i grew up with the dolphins when they were the only pro sports game in South Florida.
Makes it tough living in Boston and not wanting New England to win.
Makes it doubly tough to go to Gillette every year to watch my boys play and have to sit there quietly so as not to get an impromptu beer shower.

Waaaaiitttt a minute. Hold on, are you implying that dildos aren't customary in Rugby??? While living in Sydney I was invited to play and they explained how Aussie Rules was different than Rugby. I asked in what way and one of them pulled out a dildo and some hot oil.

* Loose Borat reference

Haven't you heard? Aussie rules recently replaced their time penalty with... well, some innovative stuff!
