Here's 10 colognes which I and/or others on Basenotes seem to mention frequently in discussions such as "which is best", "which one", etc. There's millions of threads on best colognes but I wanted to do a poll of the Top 10 IMO and see who comes out on top. Wooo!!!
So I am assuming you were not here in March, when BN member bluesoul coordinated a highly organized and all encompassing polling system to award the 'best' colognes on Basenotes?

You can find all 51 threads here: http://community.basenotes.net/searc...archid=1348878

Only 10 seconds and I get a response already?!!! Yes, I know there a thousand polls and a thousand posts on "best this" and "best that". There will be a thousand more in the future I suspect and if there weren't, discussion topics would decrease by a huge margin. Some of the long time posters will complain and yawn about posts like this but that's ok.

Besides, there hasn't been a new poll in a while (depending on your definition of "a while"), and I wanted to see the results between these 10. New people join the site all the time as well so we can't assume everyone has had their say and that's the end. Wouldn't the site grind to a halt if that were the case?

Na , I'll just wait until next years March Madness poll for Basenotes. So far the champ is Habit Rouge.

None of the above. But if I have to choose among the above, Kouros.
I think we should play "Which one of the fragrances listed does not belong with the others".
And I was hoping this was about classic Eau de Colognes!

Oh no no no...EDCs IMO are way too weak in the longevity department to make the cut. I know Tiffany For Men gets its props, and maybe deserves a spot. Personally I can't say. Would like to try it however!

Eau de Cologne? Pfffft, more like Eau de Suck! Am I right? Eh eh?... this thing on?
Like Galamb_Borong said, none of the above.

If I had to choose one of the ten, it would be Chanel Pour Monsieur (1955).
From this particular selection - GIT edges it by a nose over MI for me. (I'd have included Patou PH and D&G By).

Any issue with the thread? Not getting the page
post #13 of 41
M7 is nice
I really never understood GIT even though I gave it at least tries
oh well
Purely based on this list, I'd choose GIT, but it is definitely not my best/favorite fragrance.
From this list, I chose Chanel Egoiste.
From the list: Kouros
Out of this list, I would tend to lean towards the two Chanel, Creed GIT and MI and Guerlain Vetiver.
Egoiste, and then M7.

Search results are dynamic. The link works only for a short time (it worked last night when I clicked on it).

Search for BMM09. That will bring up the same results. (That's a zero not an O)
+1 - tough choices. Chanel Pour Monsieur is enigmatic and historically significant, so I think I'm going to vote for it... as far as which is easiest to wear I'd vote for GIT.

The fact that the so called best frags seem to take turns at the BN awards to sit at the top of the pile make any poll on 'best fragrance' a pointless endeavour. 'Best selling' or 'most popular' is not always the 'best'. Then we need to define 'best'. And for a 'world champion' to be crowned, you must first establish the 'weight class' category. The contenders need to be nominated with votes securing a top 10 placing. Bla bla bla...

We all know this of course. So my vote goes to 'Cynicism'. Bottle that pls...
I can't answer the poll, I don't know Millesime and M7. Among the rest, Vetiver and Pour Monsieur, by far. Yes, I am a conservative man.

Poor Obsession, it gets no love:-( I hope it's not because of who makes it, but the scent itself. To me if it's good, it's good. Although for full disclosure I wouldn't buy anything named "Sean John", "Jennifer Lopez" or "Paris Hilton". No way, no how.

In hindsight I wish had included Tiffany or Antaeus instead.

I voted for Obsession - because it deserves more votes then L'Homme.

I'm sure Obession will take a vote anyway it can get it at this point!

L'Homme does seem to be reviled by a number of Basenoters (especially those loyal to YSL classics), so I guess it's a guilty pleasure for me. It's longevity is the issue I have, other than that, great scent IMO.
I honestly don't care for any of them tremendously. They are good choices, and I "like" most of them, but they don't keep me up at night.

I personally don't dislike it - but will admit it is not near the top of my favorite YSL men's fragrances.

I did own a bottle of it. But my partner seemed to like it more then me, so he put it in his collection.

Pour Monsieur off of this list..

GIT hands down.

Me too. Hey, we've all got our guilty pleasures.

LOL. Speaking of which. I can't say anything about Mlle Hilton's scents, but I do enjoy JLo's Deseo For Men. Synthetic smoky pseudo-tobacco aquatic goodness. She - I mean it - is so great.

Seriously, if you're going to walk down the path of La Nuit de L'Homme damnation with the rest of us fans, Natch, you gotta give it a try. No, it's not LNdLH. But it's not bad, and it's got one or two of the same notes.

Thats a good list and a fun challange to pick one from. Pour Monsieur was my answer.

Hey - either way, you've got good taste!

I do own La Nuit. It's also one of my favorites right now. A little darker and a little sweeter than L'Homme, and with more staying power. Although it's being pushed as the "night" version of L'Homme, I wear it whenever. Who's going to walk up and say, "Shouldn't you wear that in the evening?"

It's strictly for the L'Homme fans though. You won't find many who hate L'Homme and love La Nuit.

I nominate Natch for the title of World Champion of Hyperbole.

From the list, I voted for Pour Monsieur 1955 because I like it more than the others. You got a problem with that?

In that case I'm now a 17 time world champeen!

You can't get me riled up by nominating any Chanel fragrance btw! I'm not familiar with the original Pour Monsieur, and I'd like to see if it's really everything people say it is (better than Concentree?). If it is better, does it last as long or longer? To me the Concentree is a can't lose cologne that garners compliments when worn.

I chose the 1955 version for the simple reason that I prefer citrus to cardamom. Concentree is a fine scent in its own right, but the emphasis on bergamot in the 1955 version gives it a lighter and more refreshing quality compared to Concentree, which of course is what one would expect from an eau de cologne. Longevity for 1995 suffers in comparison, although I can detect its basenotes for several hours, albeit with nose pressed firmly to skin.

M7 is really growing on me. I've had to wear it a few times to "set the volume" (number of sprays needed) and it is everything people say. Seems on me it takes 8 or 10 sprays to get the desired effect, just like the other YSL colognes I have. I don't see it as the longevity powerhouse people think it is, but definately among the very best scents available. It's become very hard to pick between Egoiste and this one!
