Celebrity Fragrances: Who Wears What

Have you seen this list? It's kind of entertaining, though I wonder if it's accurate.

I was relieved to see Ewan McGregor actually WEARS Davidoff Adventure.

http://www.perfume.com/celebrities?r...n=WHOWEARSWHAT

Though I've seen lists like this before, I'm not sure I've seen one that includes Spielberg and Stallone.
You think thats authentic? I dont know...Its a fun read anyways
post #3 of 39
It's certainly dubious considering the source, but still fun to think about. Angelina Jolie was the first one I clicked on. I think I could see her wearing Bvlgari Black!
I reckon that website is entirely a work of fiction-as-marketing-tool.
80% of the males on the list wear some combination of GIT, Guerlain Vetiver, Clean Men, and Gendarme.

The other 20% seem to wear whatever scent their publicist has aligned them with.

I'm surprised by the number of times Annick Goutal is in there.

Also, Sascha Baron Cohen wear Joop! Ha!
Clint Eastwood, Green Irish Tweed? Doubtful. He probably thinks scents are for fruitcakes.

Here is a much more comprehensive list (the webmaster gives permission to post the URL):

http://www.freewebs.com/celebrityfragrances/

(There are abysmal spelling errors on this site. Ann Margaret? Ava Gabor? Marcello Mastrianni? Sheesh!)
Ah what the hell here's another silly one...

http://www.celebrityfragranceguide.com/

And LOL @ the Sascha wearing Joop!
Yeah, the perfume.com list is ridiculous and doesn't seem accurate at all. I doubt Britney Spears (and all those other celebs) actually wear everything they release under their name.

Even more ridiculous is that Audrey Hepburn is listed as wearing Creed's Spring Flower, which only came out after she died and smells way too modern to have been released in her day.

Was Spring Flowers even released when Ms Hepburn was alive, well I think Creed just stuck her name on their little celeb list, but thats just my opinion

She may have worn that scent. A lot of the current Creeds were private formulations for movie stars and the like; the scents existed for a number of years before they were released to the public, which is the date basenotes lists.

They originally had very few scents for public sale:

Meh, Creed is known for its smoke and mirrors marketing bullsh*t. I realize we now have proof Creed existed in the 70s, but one must realize that just because something was "made" for someone, doesn't mean they wore it.

For example, Royal Water was made for Princess Diana to commemorate her AFTER she died. Then they proceeded to milk her death to raise their own sales. How nice.

With marketing schemes like that, I wouldn't be surprised to find out that most of their celebrity scents weren't even worn by the celebrities they were supposedly made for. I like Green Irish Tweed, but man, what a piece of sh*t company. Not to mention that they claim to use natural ingredients "wherever possible," which basically means "barely ever." I actually regret writing all this now because I might have started another debate where people argue that Creed is the best because it says so.

Russell Crowe reportedly wears Cool Water AND GIT...

I was at TJ Max today and tried out J. Lo fragrance for men. I forget the name, but there a picture of her standing and a guy lying in the hammock and it was terrible. Hell, what do Hollywood celebs know about fragrance (drugs and partying, a definite yes)? Leave that to Basenoters and us ordinary folks

Martha Stewart likes Robert Piguet so I think these lists are highly suspect! Not that I follow the stars! No, not me. Never. Honestly. (As I rifle through the trash of Peter Jackson.....)

They're pretty much the same thing though, right?

I tend to agree with this. Jessica Simpson has launched Fancy and Fancy Love, two scents, but also had a line of celebrity jeans. When she was asked which brand of jeans she wore, she replied, "True Religion." This caused her company to sue her for not promoting her own brand.

The same might be true to celebuscents. Do the celebrities actually wear their own perfumes?

That's what I call appeasement. :-)
The passive and wordless world of celebtities and what they wear isn't very interesting to me. On the other hand, if a celebrity had some interesting things to say about what they wear and why they chose it perhaps then I would care. I've worked with celebrities, designing costumes for plays and organizing charity events and I've yet to meet a celebrity who had much to say in depth about anything except for their movies and homes. It seems important to Creed to have a celebrity client list, which I believe is their substitute for an actual advertising budget.

And Zihr and BdP...some big ones wear BdP. Gendarme was on there alot.

You are right on Goutal..4-5 wore Eau d'Hadrien.

I thought Spike Lee wearing Black was funny too. Not because he is black but more the content of the movies, etc. and his making of statment movies about his race.
I just want to know what Tom Brady wears... hopefully not Stetson.
Doesn't it seem funny that all the male celebs wear either Gendarme or Creed ?
Here's another funny one for those who haven't seen it yet:

http://perfumeshrine.fortunecity.com...itylist.html?#

Apparently Clint Eastwood wears Dirt by Demetre, and our buddy Vladimir Putin wears none other than Amouage Gold.
One of these says Bruce Willis dons A*Men... makes less than zero sense

On the HBO series Entourage I've only heard one reference to any fragrance in all of the seasons. The character Vinny tells Johnny Drama he better put on some Drakkar before going out. I was hoping it would have been something a little more "Hollywood" than Drakkar.

Also E could smell Lagerfeld on Drama's fingertips in another episode.

I was really surprised to see how many male celebrities wear Bijan!! I have sniffed the bottle but never worn this fragrance. I can't even imagine what it smells like after the nauseating top notes.

Irrespective of the authenticity, precision and reliability of this list, I always enjoyed it and, since previously I constantly rediscovered and than lost track of the link leading to this list, I am so thankful that you posted this again so that I can have it bookmarked and saved to favorites

Thanks for sharing!

Don't they just wear whatever the magazine where the interview is published is paid to promote that month?
I'm serious. That's if the particular celebrity doesn't already have a contract with a frag company.
Unless they can provide the proper references it to a published interview with the said celebrity, these lists are just a bunch of marketing phoney baloney as far as I'm concerned. Wealth & fame don't necessarily translate into good taste. And what does Justin Bieber wear again? L'Eau de Diaper??

Not that I think it's true, BUT - sad that Candice Bergen wears Bijan instead of a Malle.
Vladimir Putin is wearing Amouage gold ))
I know celebs get paid to front products and this can backfire.

Jessica Simpson, who has clothing lines (as well as perfumes), was once interview about what jeans she was wearing. I recall she said True Religion. Her company sued her for not promoting her line.

OTOH, Victoria Beckham and David Beckham enthusiastically support their fashion lines and fragrances.
