Non-niche Rose for men

I just read about the new Rock Volume One by John Vervatos. I noticed that it features rose, my favourite accord in a fragrance.

Thinking about it, all my favourite rose fragrances, Lyric Man, Black Aoud, Domenico Caraceni, No 88, Voleur de Roses are all more or less niche fragrances. Are there any other designer/mainstream fragrances that feature a dominant rose?

Iquitos.... Alain Delon, Big bold Rose with a woody drydown.

Cabaret (not Cabaret Homme) is a nice, affordable, woody rose that works well as a masculine for me. Among designer scents marketed to men, Insensé has a very conspicuous rose note at its heart.

Seconding Iquitos, though I find it a little "top heavy" - very powerful when first applied, but becomes quite quiet after the first half-hour on me. Personally, if choosing between it and the related No 88, I'd pick the latter, but both are unique and worth owning.

Though niche, a cheap and truly excellent rose is Velvet Rose, from Sonoma Scent Studio. The most real rose I've smelled, and I think a must-try for anyone who likes rose.

Clarin's Par Amour has a great rose note...technically not marketed to men, but worth trying.

Guerlain Aqua Allegoria Rosa Magnifica is mellow and straightforward.
Guerlain Nahema is a quite a bit more complex and involved
Rochas Tocade has a big rosewood/vanilla accord

These aren't marketed to men but can be worn by men, no problem. If you can go nivhe try Parfums de Rosine Rose d'Homme

Isn't it true that Iquitos by Alain Delon s out of production and, if you can find it, sells now for much more that it did when being produced? Why then is it being recommended?

He didn't say it had to be in production...either way, it can easily be found online and at various discounters.

Many people seem to thinik Chanel Egoiste is a rose frag. I never thought of it as a rose scent, but better noses than mine in here often say it is.

It is a classic I think.

Iquitos has a lot going on, so I don't even think of it as a "rose frag," though I like it. If I want to smell rose without a real "feminine" vibe, I reach for Chopard Madness Natural Black. I find it more interesting and dynamic than Cabaret.

I'll second or third Cabaret by Gres. A wonderfully spicy rose accord that is marketed as a feminine, but certainly works on a man.

Yes - Iquitos can be picked up for prices that are much cheaper than many in-production designer frags.

Of all the above, Ungaro III and Cabaret Gres are the most rose-forward frags, IMO, though Iqitos and Ungaro II are my favourites.

Isn't a rose fragrance "difficult" for a man to wear unless the rose note is very subtle? I do not want to smell like a rose and I have never noticed one of my friends or colleagues smelling like a rose.

I think certain green roses (like Diptyque's L'Ombre dans L'Eau) and very dry roses (like the very gentlemanly, restrained Acqua di Parma Colonia) work really well even on men who are wary of smelling feminine. Lots of ways to spin a rose besides aldehydic, ambery-sweet, and soapy. Some of them quite traditional for men.
