Auto gurus - I need your help!

I'm near the end of my rope on this and I'm not quite sure where else to look!

We recently purchased a 2008 Ford Edge. Apparently the original floormats were in hideous condition, because they threw them out and sold us the car with temporary paper mats. Alright...we thought no big deal.

But it turns out that they require special mats, either OEM or tailor made, as there's a hook in the floor of the driver's side for holding the mat in place. So universal mats won't fit.

All of our local Ford dealerships have told us that the regular carpet mats have been discontinued for some odd reason - even though the car's only a year old?! We can purchase rubber all-weather mats if we'd like, but those run almost $90.

Are there any other sources I could check into? Somebody that knows somebody that sells OEM floormats out of the trunk of their minivan?! I'm starting to get desperate, we've had this car for almost a month and are still using the temp mats... Do junkyards sell mats or are they stripped out before?

Have you checked places like Auto Zone, Checker, Napa Auto Parts, etc? Even places like Walmart, Kmart and Target sell floor mats. They do come in different sizes and shapes, so it may just take some shopping around. You may be able to find something that will fit. The hook is not a big deal. My Jeep has the hook, but mostly it's just so the mat doesn't slide. To be honest, I don't think Ford's usually come standard with floor mats, that's a thing you sort of negotiate for in the deal - thinking back to all the Ford's my parents have had. You could also check flea markets/swap meets, once in ahwile you'll find vendors sells the customized mats and dashboard covers.

Here's one place I found online: http://www.qualitycarmats.com/ not sure you want to spend that much though.

According to one of my customers that works at a Ford dealership, these did originally come with mats. I have the SEL model and he said they were definitely standard, not sure why our dealership would pitch mats that were only a year old. But I digress...

I've checked all of the normal places for mats but none of them will fit right. Even the nice little guys at AutoZone and Advanced have helped me go through their whole stock. Apparently Ford designed the floor of our car so that universal mats will fit very poorly - there's a nitch on the lefthand side that just doesn't work with universals. It's really ridiculous. I've been looking at Ebay too, but pretty much all of the items are for custom-made mats... sooo I'm keeping my eyes open!

Apparently the Edge is pretty much the exact same as the Lincoln MKX, so the mats for it would fit perfectly. Off to see if these are discontinued as well...

Go to a Ford dealer, test an Edge and try to see if you can "borrow" the floor mats !

Haha, just kidding !

..or am I ?

The Audi S4 I just bought also didn't come with floor mats and it also has the pins to put a floor mat in so it won't slide around. The carpet is back so I'm not too worried about it getting stained but I'd like to keep the carpet looking new and to prevent wear. You could buy thin universal mats (clear mats are pretty thin), punch holes in it so it will fit in the pins on the floor and then cut the excess off to that it fit's properly.
