I am currently on a baby forum, and one of the most annoying things about it is the Baby Name Polls. Do you like this name? Do you like that name? Can you all choose me a middle name to go with that annoying first name? And so on and so on.

So, to spread the insanity, I thought I'd make a baby-name poll of my own.

I'd name mine "Jean-Baptiste" If it didn't sound too much like john the baptist. :|
post #3 of 40
I voted yes because I named my son ( years ago ) after the lead singer of Molly Hatchet....so....it stands to reason that if I had a child now, I would be influenced by what I'm presently passionate about.

I don't have a problem with it at all. Some of them have great names. Admittedly, Jean Claude would be pushing it in America. But many of the rest would be wonderful. I would still choose the name more for how it sounded than for fanboi reasons.
Forget the perfumer, I'd go for the fragrance. If I had twin girls, I think Poison and Envy would be delightful.

Indeed, if it were the 1970's I'd probably name my son Luke. I guess there are still a lot of "Star Wars" fans, because one of the most popular names currently is Hayden.

True, that is an important consideration. An "Edouard" might not be so out of place in Europe, but where I live, it might raise eyebrows.

I thought about that too! But, couldn't see that someone would name their child after a perfume! I guess I was wrong! Actually, you know, there are tons of Dakotas. How unusual would "Montana" be, eh?
Currently childless, but yes, naming them both after scents and after perfumers that I like would be something I'd like to do.
Purely hypothetical question in my case, as I'm not (for a long while, anyway) planning to have children. That said, a good friend of mine is getting a bit broody and has involved me in those what-would-YOU-call-your-baby-conversations more than once. In the end, I figured that Iskander would be a nice name. Only afterwards did I find out that Parfums d'Empire do a scent called Iskander - how odd is it to feel tempted to snag one to indoctrinate a future hypothetical child?

Galamb; I see a play date coming up for Poison, Envy & Iskander.

I voted "other" because while I doubt I would name a baby after anyone, I can't say for sure some names generally present in my consciousness wouldn't influence my decision.

I might name my kids after fragrance materials.

Boys names: Vetiver (well, it has kind of the same cadence as Oliver), Agarwood (hey, not too far from Dagwood), Frankincense ( Just call him Frank),

Girls names: Ethyl-Vanillin (yes, I'm bringing the name Ethel back!), Hedione (Hedi for short), Quinoline (not unlike Caroline-- maybe a little synthetic, but she could be a test tube baby)

OK, I'm being stupid.

Seriously, there are probably hundreds of good names that could be taken from aromatic materials.

I voted "No", but keep laughing at Indie's suggestions.

Indole? Calone? Iso Super E?

I can keep going...

No.
Not after one but possibly chose the same name as one.

i.e. Christopher (Sheldrake), Olivia (Giacobetti)

I picked "Other" because I would not choose to name a child after any celebrity or story/movie character, but it would be OK if a name I liked happened to belong to one that I liked. Olivia is a great example. I love that name.
No.

I like old fashioned traditional names like Margaret, Elizabeth, Martin. And biblical names...Susannah, Matthew. I certainly wouldn't name a kid Sheldrake, or Lutens. Although, I wonder how a Sheldrake would turn out when he grew up. It's kind of a cool name.
I voted yes. After all Jean-Claude is a very nice name.
Yeahhhhhhhhh...NO. I like this hobby but not that much.
No.

If one day God give me a son I think on Jean or Joseph. For a daughter I like Mary and Irina, but I think Irina is too difficult for my country.

One of my clients named her daughter Coco. I gave her some magazine articles I'd collected about Coco Chanel after some mean kids started calling her Coco the Clown.

Considering my age and relationship situation, if I had a baby daughter I'd name her Miracle.

I have considered getting a puppy and naming her Aldehyde - Heidi for short.

I used to babysit these two sisters who were named after Avon scents, Ariane and Bianca. I always thought it was a little odd!

Strangely enough, I named my daughter Iris only to discover soon after that my skin chemistry makes it impossible to wear many scents with Iris notes, unless I want a huge, headache-causing Iris bomb to bloom on me.

Courtney Cox named her daughter Coco. I think naming pets for fragrances/noses is kind of neat. I was going to name my dog Coco but a guy friend of my husband's said it was a stripper name (he would know), so it kind of ruined it for me. I left her name as it was. Aldehyde - Heidi for short - is cute!

Serge is a great name for a boy and better for a man. Love it.
A friend from work is named Germaine (Cellier?) and it works beautifully. Another co-worker is Celine which is also a great name. I'd use any of these in a heartbeat. Coco was the name of my childhood best friend's poodle, but Gabrielle is lovely!

I also like Edmond, but not Earnest. I have always loved the name Thierry.
I will have to hope for twins, two boys named Czech and Speake would work for me

Mind you No.88 was created by John Stephen, so there is always the easy option

Sheldrake would be an interesting kid!! Sounds like a name for someone who is a superhero by night.... saving the world from vile perfumes
post #25 of 40
Hm . . .maybe you all could be kinder and give the kid the MIDDLE name of Coco or Sheldrake? I dunno, Sheldrake sounds like a good stage magician rather than a Superhero. Now, Green Irish Tweed is close to Green Lantern with a Celtic twist and conservative clothes: " GIT over here, you little brat! "
Yep. It works.

" What a coincidence! My name happens to be Harvey. "

LOL I meant that Sheldrake would be the nerdy Clark Kent by day....the he could be Green Irish Tweed by night

Now THIS is funny...and I'd never connected the dots before this thread.

Love's True Bluish Light is pretty much my favorite smelly thing on this earth, created of course by Serena Ava Franco of Ava Luxe.

I've always planned, should I be so lucky to have a daughter one day, to name her Ava. My wonderful grandmother was named Avis and I've chosen that name in her memory. I rather like the middle name "Camille" to go with it, and I picked that one out before I know about Annick Goutal, too.

I think I hear "Twilight Zone" music...
I voted "no". Choosing your childs' name is something not to be taken lightly, or as a joke. I treat that responsibility with reverence. I also pay careful attention to middle names, nicknames, words that rhyme with the name, and initials. It is fun though, to play around with names - just for fun!
(for example, my daughter is Shannon Kathleen and my son is Michael Joseph - we call him Mick)
Yes, I only marked this answer because Olivia (Giacobetti) and Ava (not a nose but Luxe) are two of my favorite names for a girl and right now there pretty popular, well we'll see about this in 20 years

However I would not name my child something that would get them teased or anything like that (although when I was really little I wanted to name my future daughter paprika like my favorite spice)

Thanks for your answers, folks! I swear, reading them has been the highlight of my day!

After a perfumer? No. After a perfume, yes! Like Lucifer 2. 3, and 4 (the baby, aww).

http://www.damienbash.com/damienbash06.swf

Or Diavolo, cuz I know between my genes and the women I date the only thing popping out is an IMP!

But seriously perfumes names on a person would be cool in an avant garde way. The leasing agent at my apartment complex is named "Chanel." I write "For Chanel #5, #22, or is it Chance?" on the envelopes I mail to her. And yes she was named after Coco Chanel.
If i liked the name enough
I don't have a favorite perfumer. I'd probably be the person whose kid doesn't have a name until a week after it's born. I think it took me almost two weeks to decide on a name for my dog. lol
post #34 of 40
Not because of their work, but if I liked the ring of it at the right time I might use the inspiration.

I know it's a bit weird, but I really like Montana as a girl's name. Maybe it would be nice as a middle name. Claudette Montana? Or at least anything but Hannah!

OMG - on second thought, I think that Montana may have been ruined as a girl's name already. And I'll bet that the name is gaining popularity right along with "Miley"....

I think Coco is a cute name. My best friend when I lived in NY is named Annick, she's from France.
i'll name my children after my favourite cologne. i'm gonna have two and call them grey and flannel.
well, I immediately thought of Serge.
How about Fifi? maybe not. but fun to think of.
I do like Gabrielle and Olivia.

I vote hands down for the Aldehyde puppy!

Annick is such a cute name

NIO (from Xerjoff) doesn't sound too bad. I suppose many have already named their children Neo after the Matrix film, so it sounds the same other than the spelling.
