DSH dirty ROSE for Men- My Review

I really like Dawn Spencer Hurwitz's fragrances and her latest men's scent is pretty good.
I just posted my review here:

This is a rose and leather masculine scent that wears really nice on me.

Great - love the name! So...what's 'dirty' about it? Just the leather? Did you get anything else dirty, like cumin, castoreum, etc?

I love her Sienna. Cinnamon-a-go-go.

The dirty aspect is almost entirely the leather. The most prominent notes outside of the leather and rose are woods. She starts with a light rosewood at the top which transitions to a cedar sandalwood mix by the base.
I'm also a fan of Sienna, too. I love the stamed rice note in that one on top of the cinnamon which is marvelous.

The notes look sort of similar to Caraceni 1913.

Where is it available?

You can buy it directly from her website.

The DSH site has a very interesting feature. By clicking on a note/ingredient you get a discription of the characteristics of that note.

I've always wanted to try DSH's frags but whenever I go to her site I've been totally overwhelmed by the number of perfumes she makes.

For those familiar with her stuff, what are the not-to-be-missed fragrances?

I got a sample of Dirty Rose last week and I'm in love with it! I dabbed some on last night and could still smell it when I woke up. Dabbed on some more and keep sniffing and sniffing... I love how the rose note is in the background but still stays through all the stages. Despite all the spice and wood notes the scent isn't at all heavy or suffocating, but has a definite outdoorsy feel.

Café Noir is my favourite, and all four Les Rouges scents are great. But there are many, many more. I recommend ordering samples and asking Dawn herself for which ones to pick. That's what I did a couple of years ago.

Thanks for the review smm! Sounds interesting.

Sandalo Inspiritu is a favourite of mine - grab it while you can

I'd recommend Celadon, Viridian, Padme Lotus, Cimabue, Sandalo Inspiritu and, yes, Dirty Rose, as well-made scents that represent a solid cross-section of Ms. Hurwitz's stylistic range.

As an aside, my review (also favorable) of Dirty Rose can be found here.

Great reviews Mark and Andrew, thanks for sharing them. Wow, another house to explore.
