What was the first fragrance you bought after joing basenotes? - Page 3

Rochas Man, followed by Le Male.
Can't remember. I had already had many hundreds in my collection.
Burberry for Men . . . still have it and still wear it.
I think it was Floris JF if I remember correctly.

Only owned 2 bottles when I joined Basenotes (Hugo Element, Armani Code). I had just run out of the Hugo, so I found this site and started snooping around. Now I am up to about 130 bottles less than a year later - don't remember which I bought first, but I think it may have been Paco Black XS or Chanel Allure Homme Edition Blanche.

Terre de Hermes parfum....most of my early choices were influenced by Luca Turin, andI believe TdH was the first that did not have a 4 or 5 star rating in his book.
I believe it was Green Irish Tweed, There used to be so many positive topics going into really good detail and it really stood out all those years back, its still one of my all time faves.
It was Kouros for me. And a boatload of others ever since.
Geir Ness, Rive Gauche and Azzaro ph. Ordered all three around the same week lol. Bought a few more bottles after that but lately I've been ordering decants for sampling.

+1 and it's still marvelous. Will buy another bottle soon.

I'm pretty sure the first fragrance I got / was gifted (for christmas) after I joined basenotes was Aventus. It was the fragrance a friend let me test out of nowhere, and I've never in my whole life been so blown away by a fragrance. Do mind, this was at a time where I would do three sprays of a random Boss, go out and not think more about perfume that day.

So yeah, Aventus as a sort of a gatekeeper for me, opening me up to a whole new world. In a year I've bought probably 50 fragrances, and my collection is something I'm pretty happy with now.

I just joined recently, and since then I've purchased AdP Colonia, Platinum Egoiste and Epic Man (in that order)

Creed GIT and OV
I joined BN b/c I had heard Prince Charles sometimes wore GIT. I became obsessed with smelling it, and after reading the reviews on BN, bought a bottle. Sort of ironic that Creed is the house I criticize most...
Bought a bottle of penhaligon's Endymion off of Buysblind when i first joined basenotes. Ended up buying the same bottle 3 times (friend bought the first from from me, bought a 2nd bottle and another friend bought it off of me, and now i have my 3rd bottle, lol)
Chergui! It's the first thing I bought in my modern, adult, perfumista incarnation... I remember the weather turned in the fall, and I all I could think of was Chergui...
M7 which i regretted.
1. Dior Homme Intense
2. M7 and Encre noire on the same day
3. YSL La Nuit
In respective order
YSL L'Homme and I actually finished the bottle
post #147 of 178
Encre Noire

I smelled it and there was no expression on my face, but I was almost jumping out of my skin.

Sartorial.
Dolce and Gabbana Pour Homme. First niche was GIT.
I think it was probably Pi.
First one I bought, after starting to read Basenotes, while I was still lurking, was Allure Homme Sport, in Cancun Duty Free. That was a stupid and expensive way of finding out I don't like aquatics!

First purchase after joining was a 3 bottle haul of Body Kouros, B*Men and Zero Plus Masculine. The Zero Plus got given away to a relative, but the others are big favourites of mine.

First reading Basenotes, Millésime Impérial...

After further reading & joining, withstanding Creed, these blind buys:

Frederic Malle - Musc Ravageur
Guerlain - Shalimar (Vintage EDC)
Jean Patou - Patou pour Homme
Le Galion - Eau de Vetyver
Le Labo - Rose 31
Montale - Black Aoud
Serge Lutens - Muscs Koublaï Khän
Yves Saint Laurent - Kouros + M7

Cuir de Russie and Opus 1870.
I think it was Chergui...
Encre Noir or LDDM.
I read so many good things about Body Kouros that I went and blind-bought a bottle. Big mistake- worst fragrance I've ever owned. After that, I was extra cautious and tried to get samples. One of the first samples led me to Avignon.

Tenere
I think it was Black Afgano.
Issey Miyake L'eau D'Issey Gold Absolu... then I realised designer scents weren't really for me.
Gucci Pour Homme (2003). I think I spotted a thread that said it was being discontinued, and I remembered seeing it in a store, so I figured I should give it a sniff. I liked it so much that I bought it. Months later, when I saw one box of it on a store shelf, I bought that too. I'm glad I did.
Probably L'air du desert...Still going strong on that one, too.
GIT was my first
L'eau D'Issey pour homme.... and then 90% of my current wardrobe... Gotta love the forum
post #166 of 178
Guerlain Vetiver. I loved it. My first blind buy.
I have been following BN for more than 5 yrs b4 deciding to join, so from that perspective, after joining, MDCI's Invasion Barbare was my first buy & my second blind buy of all I own, what a spectacular fragrance though...
Mine was L`Occitane's Eau des Baux not too long ago, and Creed Aventus shortly after that

The disease has taken a strong hold since then
post #169 of 178
First was Czech & Speake No.88, followed by Musc Ravaguer and Green Irish Tweed.
Went to Vegas to potentially buy Heeley's Menthe Fraiche (The reason why I found Basenotes in the first place being that I saw this frag in a magazine and didn't even know they had mint in fragrances) and ended up buying CDG Wonderwood...and then Guerlain's Herba Fresca being that I was disappointed in Menthe Fraiche, Herba Fresca being what a mint frag should be IMO.

Terre d'Hermes

L'Eau D'Issey Pour Homme from reading the compliments thread
post #177 of 178
I remember very well my first blind buy and first ever fragrance purchase was Opium pour Homme by Yves Saint Laurent

I read all the reviews and made myself and idea of what it could be like but when I first smelled it it was totally different. At first I though "Oh my gosh what have I bought" but after a few days/weeks I came to appreciate it very much....

Don´t wear it that often anymore... but I think it was a great introduction to the fragrance world.

+1 After doing a lot of research for my new best thing. And it turned out to be exactly just that. Unfortunately it didn't stop there
