Which sample set should I order?

I'm thinking of getting one of those set. Is that a good idea? Which one would you suggest?

Or maybe you have a better suggestion among those ones:

Thanks. I just corrected it.

The first one sounds like an incredible good set to begin with.

I wish i knew all frags listed on there so the first one it is for me, especially since it enables you to participate in a great deal of discussion on here.

I personally don't like any of those, although there are some gems in those packs.
I consider the following fragrances to be "must try" fragrances:

Eau Noire
Musc Ravageur
Chergui
Invasion Barbare
Green Irish Tweed
Spiritueuse Double Vanille
L'Air du Desert Marocain
Jubilation XXV
Lumiere Noire
Rose 31

First one.

Kind of helps if you know what you're looking for.

2nd one

I'm more familiar many of the scents in the first, and it leans more "macho"

The second one is nice too, but perhaps a tad softer.

Your call ultimately.

I'd go with the second one, because it is intentionally covering a broad range of different categories - many of which you may not have been exposed to in the past. If it helps, I've tried half of those listed already and three are in my rotation.

I want to explore so I need a bit of everything. I'm also interested in tobacco, leather and spicy fragrance but I don't want to limit myself to that.

Those look really cool - thanks for pointing them out.

#1 seems more like a greatest hits collection - many Basenotes grails on that list.

#2 seems like a really great college course in perfumes, more of an educational thing.

Both look pretty cool...

First, but really you want to get them both

The Perfumed Court's packs are not priced at a big discount, so I'd suggest just ordering individual samples of things that interest you. For example, you could read the reviews and comments here on Basenotes about the fragrances in those two packs and put together your own combination.

You might also find the testing more meaningful when you have a bit of background information on what you're sampling. There's nothing like finding out that every sample smells different from what you expected. :-)

If you end up with several fragrances from one house on your list, there's usually a TPC sample pack that will let you save a dollar or two on that set.

Agreed! It would be much more useful to a beginner. I should probably get it too haha
