Geir by Geir Ness -- underrated Fragrance?

Thread Starter
I have recently worn Geir by Geir Ness more regularly and find it's quite nice especially during the winter. however, It's hard to locate and find few posts about it.

Perhaps because it's an obscure fragrance it doesn't get the credit it deserves?

It gets plenty of credit on here. I'm not sure if it was newly added to the major perfumery stores or not, but I remember a few years back that some guy was marketing from his website. Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

It's a great scent though.

At one time Geir Ness was the rage on BN. Then it fell out of favor.

There are still many fans here, but some detractors.

I for one, am a big fan. But I find it wears better on me in warm weather,

I like it and I own it. I don't reach for it frequently though.

75% of the reviews in the directory are positive (32 of 48). That is a pretty decent percentage. So I think it is liked by a fair number, though some of course do not.

It certainly receives a healthy share of "thumbs up" in the review section.
Superb stuff IMHO - works beautifully for me in the colder months (though I use it all year round). I find sillage moderate but persistant and longevity excellent. Add another "thumbs up" here.

Yep, I remember when the answer to every "what should I buy/wear" question was "GEIR!!" Not anymore. It's pretty good, but too sweet and thick for me. I believe the Nordstrom near me actually used to carry it.

I wore it last week. It is in my fall/winter rotation. I think it is more suitable for the cooler weather.
IMO it's OVERRATED rather than underrated. Before I ever found BN I read about it on Perfumeemporium.,com and was dying to try it. When I finally did, I found it be a cloying chemical mess. It's sweet, insanely strong and epitomizes the term "cologne guy" IMO.

I sampled Geir Ness last winter, and boy did it not sit well with me at all. At first sampling, I found it to be very similar to Febreeze (!). Not that it would matter, because even if I adored the smell of Febreeze, i just find Geir Ness far too nauseating ( to me). On the bright side, it has good projection and longevity.

I also don't care for scents that give me a "clean" scented smell.

Forgot to add, I don't think it is "underrated" at all for a fragrance here. It seems to get hype here and there, but moreso in the past ( as I read from the Mens Forum archives).

I'm afraid I have to add to the detractor side of this discussion. On my skin, its a cloying disaster and does not show any sign of finesse at all.

Steve

Love it.

Geir Ness is a scent that needs a GREAT atomizer. It needs to be spray in a fine mist that is pretty wide to get the right application. That's just me though, does anyone else agree? If it isn't applied right, it's far too cloying. But I love it anyways.
I have it and I like it ! It just doesn't bubble to the top of my "want to wear" list as much as it used to. I guess I'm more in the "buy and try" new stuff mode right now.

I agree.

If applied to heavily it is not pleasant.

Recently got a decant of it - quite amazing stuff. It's interesting how different people seem to prefer it in one season or another. I have not tried it in warm weather yet obviously, but I love it in winter so far - it has a "chilly" feeling about it that seems to go well with cold, crisp winter air. Also, how could one of viking ancestry such as myself not love a fragrance with a slogan such as "The Power of Norway"?

It's good stuff

Once upon a time it was overrated--or at least overpraised in these forum, then the fashion changed to the opposite. Fickle souls, we.

For me it's 4 out of 5 stars and yes, better in winter.
Le Roy Soleil Homme by Dali is my summer version

Cheers,

Mario

Meh. It doesn't do anything for me.

This is a wonderful scent.....I purchased mine at Nordstroms.....Gary

I gave my bottle to a friend who's a closet Basenoter. I remembered letting him take a sniff and he commented that it's really nice. So I gave it to him as a wedding gift (well, also a typical dishware set too) last spring. It should be on his rotation by now.

If Geir Ness would release "Geir Dry", (Geir with less sweetness) I'd be a big fan.
Geir is a "shot-gun" approach. Put a little of everything in it. SOMEthing will probably work with your body chemistry.
The effect is un-focused and merely pleasant at best.

Truth.

It is the one fragrance that I get the most consistent compliments on. Truly. Each time I wear it, somebody makes a nice comment.

That being said, I don't find it all that interesting, and there are others out there that are very similar. Definitely agree that a light hand with wide coverage is the best way to apply this fragrance. It seems to last quite a while one me, and apparently the sillage is not bad!

Geir, underrated and deservedly so. It was the hot new thing on Basenotes, circa 2009, but I wonder how many who praised it still wear it regularly. In a phrase: sweet, white floral musk bomb.

I don't feel it's underrated. It gets just the right of exposure IMO.

Actually, Geir fever reached its peak somewhere between 2006 and 2007. I once owned a bottle and enjoyed it for what it was. However, I've long since moved on and wouldn't consider buying another bottle.

An interesting smell...I always found it very difficult to wear.

Don't wear it as much as I use to, but its a great scent. My x girlfriend couldn't get enough of it...
