Anyone into photography? Show us photos you like (by yourself or others).

I am by no means a photographer, but recently I've taken an interest in viewing photographs and reading photo critique websites. And I bet there are people who are into photography on BN.

So... show us photographs done by yourself or others that you admire. Include source and picture data, if available.

I'll start with a pic I came across a while back. I remember staring at this for long minutes. It's a long exposure of bugs under a streetlamp. I've seen dozens of tricks done with long exposure shots, but this one is by far the most creative.

Amazing photos! I do some photography.. but my camera isn't the highest quality.

Great thread! Looking forward to see the work of other photography fanatics

CanwllCorfe, I like your style a lot! Especially the 'darker' pictures have a great atmosphere. Wondering how you made the third image with the benches, did you edit it later or found another way to do it?

I shoot a little myself occassionally, these are from a series I called Light:

Love that mossy pic BrothaG!

I don't think I've ever seen a photo taken by Paco PeregrÃ*n that I don't love.
Some examples:

Sorry, I have nothing to add to this thread but I must say, I am enjoying watching these pics.
I think the day I decide to take a break from my fragrance hobby, I'd get into the fantastic world of photography.

Just a P&S Canon 800is, no adjustments. Mostly Cape Town, last one is London
Sorry, got a little over-zealous

Here are a few of my own photos. I love high contrast B&W:

These are taken with a 6 year old Pentax Optio S6 digital camera using the B&W setting.
I am possibly going to buy a Nikon D5000 VR today as a few good deals have come up in the sales.

Really enjoying everyone's photos. Please keep posting.

Here's a couple of images I came across that I'm really digging.

Dimitri, D5000 is an excellent camera choice. I bought a D90 recently with the 18-105mm f/3.5-5.6 lens. And while both the D90 and D5000 have the same sensor and megapixel count so basically the same image quality, I'd check out the D90 if you're ready to throw in a couple of hundred bucks more. You get compatibility with a wider range of lenses (D5000, for example, will not auto-focus on the Nikon 50mm f/1.8 AF, which is the prime lens everyone gets), a few more dedicated buttons to reach menu settings, and the supposedly-better 18-105mm f/3.5-5.6 VR.

Awesome work everyone! Love how you can 'feel' the sun in many of the pics. As you can probably tell I really like light.

Wasn't familiar with Paco PeregrÃ*n yet - quite unique! I might post some of one of my fave photographers tomorrow. *

One of my favorite photographers is Guido Mocafico. I think his extreme sharpness and the way he places objects is really striking.

He did a couple of perfume shoots as well... Hope you enjoy them!

I've resized them a bit for those on a slower connection:

I just recently started getting into photography as a hobby. Mostapha I loooooove my D90! I just purchased the 35mm 1.8 this week. I really like the primes. I have the 50mm 1.8 as well. I have the kit lens and the 18-200mm VR zoom. I have the SB-600 as well. Now I need a new camera bag lol. I'm probably going to get the 50mm 1.4 next. I'm watching the new Nikkor lenses coming out this year. I would like the AF-S DX Nikkor 17-60 mm f/2.8G VR. I am like Dimitri. I have fallen in love with my B&W setting on my camera. I have always loved B&W pics though. I have yet to tackle photoshop though. I have CS3 and not one clue how to use it. I figured I'd get the camera down 1st and then learn how to use photoshop. You can check out my flickr. Most of those pics were taken with my D90 and the 50mm 1.8. The 1st B&W on my page was taken with my new 35mm 1.8 in full manual mode....woo hoo! Nothing professional looking, but I'm getting pretty good.

This young artist (19 yo) does photo manipulations. I think she is incredibly talented and I hope she'll be very succesful. I don't know her, just a serendipitous find.

Got a bit of practice. Here's some of my stuff

^I like those a lot!

All done with a Canon A720is...basically a P&S, but it does at least have manual exposure controls.

Here are a few that I've taken with my supercheap digital camera.

Does anyone have good suggestions for a DSLR? I wanna move up in the world and take pictures like Mostapha. I would want it to be good at taking night shots, and be somewhat reasonable in price (not too much over $1,000).

Just a few photos of mine:

Thanks for looking.

Have read many good reviews of Nikon D1500 (kit w/ lens), or if you already have a prosumer digital camera, you can start practicing before you make the decision. A good software is indeed needed, because most of the photos will be in RAW format.

an early experiment of contract light and dark..

I use a Nikon D60. Here's some pics I took with it. I have better ones, but this was the best I could find on my photobucket.

My amp

Some Fragrance shots

Sorry I replied so late. I second this suggestion. But also think about getting what your friends have (Canon, Nikon or Sony) so that you can exchange and borrow equipment more easily.

Here's a couple of pictures I took recently:

Have a great day everyone.

^Those are beautiful, the abundant color of the petals and the texture of both pictures. Really nice works!

Just checked it out, and yes that's perfect! Good price, lots of good reviews, I think that'll be the one I end up getting... whenever I can afford it.

These two are real nice work and definitely my favorites from the bunch. Beautiful color tone/hue composition, excellent!

I ended up buying the Nikon D5100! Thanks for the suggestion! I loooove it. I ended up getting a good deal on it, since for this month the kit with the 18-55mm lens is $700.

First shot I took:

First attempt at taking a picture of the stars:

I use a Nikon D90 plus a few 3rd-party lens. Not really into landscape photography, but I try to shoot given the opportunity... I prefer to shoot events (parties, school concerts, social gatherings, etc), but I am just a hobbyist and I don't accept paid jobs yet when asked.

Thanks! Yeah I've been quite busy with school, and once school is out, I'm going on a trip to Oklahoma and Florida. I think that will be the first time I really get to break it out. I'm especially excited for Florida!

Both are awesome!
Love this one that you captured the greens and the indigo hazy blue starry sky. Excellent excellent!!
Thanks! The first one was actually chance, and the only reason it was like that was because a car was turning and the headlights exposed the trees and grass (I would love to do something like that on purpose, but it'd take a lot of light!) The second one was sort of based around the same premise, except I used a flashlight to expose the bulldozer and walked around it trying to get it all even. It was my very first time light painting! Definitely won't be my last.
^The second one i thought was HDR. It has that high dynamic color on the bulldozer and really pop out from the background. It seems you handle lighting pretty well on shooting landscaping and you should definitely keeping it going.
Thanks! I'll definitely be doing more. And it'll be warmer, so it'll be far more enjoyable.
