I'm looking for something in particular

Hi, can you guys recommend me something for a 20 year old? I really want something that is clean, subtle, and masculine at the same time. My favorites are Armani Mania, and Swiss Army Classic. I tried the various Calvin Klein fragrances but some smelt too overpowering and others smelt like something my grandpa would wear. I also tried Kenneth Cole Black but it smelt too feminine on my skin.

Guerlain Homme perhaps?

You sound like an Aquca di Gio guy to me.

I've used up a bottle of Aqua Di Gio when I first started wearing cologne, my girlfriend loved it but it got old fast and way too many guys use it nowadays.

Versace Man Eau Fraiche, Terre D' Hermes

Gendarme perhaps?

I'd recommend Bvlgari pour Homme Extreme.

Perhaps Gucci Envy

Encre Noire by Lalique, its a very nice vetiver, very masculine but also smooth at the same time!

Why go for the same thing everyone your age wears! Jack Black is a smaller company that makes three nice and subtle scents along with other men's products. They are not overpowering, have very classic masculine notes, but do not smell like alot of other scents. I also think that Gucci for men is nice in winter.

Sounds like you may enjoy Bvlgari Pour Homme - Darjeeling tea, with a little bit of pepper.

PS. The Extreme version as mentioned by Kiat is also good, it is the original + grapefruit.

Hope this helps.

Mugler Cologne, Clinique Happy for Men and Gucci Pour Homme II are a few frags I suggest u give a try. All 3 are not overpowering, kind of subtle and not overly masculine.

Give Chanel Pour Monsieur a sniff if you can find it. Not the Concentree but the original. If you like it, then you like traditional gentlemen's citrus Eau de Colognes and you're in for a lot of pleasure. With Eau de Colognes, anyway, I mean. I think you've stated very nicely in your original post the entire reason behind the importance of this genre: it's 'clean, subtle and masculine'. The missing piece is whether you associate it with your grandfather. On the other hand, maybe your grandfather is a stylish guy and perhaps you could do worse than to jump out of the generational thing and into the gentleman thing.

These are 3 very good suggestions by Jonny4...better than the ones I made previously. All three would be unusual enough to not be readily recognized by your peers, but not "strange" smelling.

I went on a testing spree last weekend, and the three Jack Black scents were easily among the worst I sampled that day. On the other hand, that testing spree had me walk out with a bottle of Acqua di Parma Colonia Intensa, which should be right up the OP's alley.

+1 on Gendarme. The ultimate clean scent. I can't imagine it not being in my wardrobe.

Prada Infusion d'Homme - clean without being boring.

Bvlgari PH
Gucci PH II

Really? I don't love the Jack Black, but I kind of like how they are not overly complicated and are a nice contrast to my usual "go to" scents like Timbuktu and Bulgari Black.

I think that Givenchey Blue Label should fit the bill. It's an aquatic that can be worn year round.
It smells nice, masculine, and not overpowering.

Guerlain Homme Intense
