which should be my first niche scent?

I have a decent fragrance collection, but nothing in the niche category. Which should be my first niche scent, also something affordable?
My tastes: I like sweet scents, like hypnose or Lalique By Lalique. My signature scent: L'instant De Guerlain.

Thanks!

"Niche" and "affordable"? Not an easy thing to find. However, I'd stick with the Parfums de Nicolai brand (check out LuckyScent.com), they have very good niche scents at a very reasonable price (under $100).

If you like sweet scents, particularly L'Instant (you've got good taste), I'd try New York, which is a woody, spicy oriental that's kind of sweet, or Nicolai Pour Homme, which smells tart and somewhat sweet to me and reminds me a lot of Caron's Le Troisieme Homme.

P.S. Expect to get a ton of responses to your thread.

When i heard afforable, Nicolai appears in my head.
Try PdN's New York. Very classic, easy to like, and smell great for everyday too. Pretty versatile scent.

Edit: I knew it , New York is gonna get a lot of votes

I don't like it a lot on me, but indeed PdN New York would be a great start. It's also available in a 30ml for like $45 or so.

That would be a great one. I think all the PdN line is avaiilable in 30ml (which I wish more houses would offer).

As ommygod said, New York is very versatile. I can't imagine a scenario where it wouldn't work.

I guess it's not technically niche, but shamu mentioned Third Man. That's on the sweet side and is a masterfully blended scent. A bit genteel for me at times, but very affordable and a great frag.

Read up on these if you're too impatient to sample first.

Well New York is
- suitable for formal occasions: it smells classyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy
- suitable for romantic dates: kinda sweet and quite sensual too. Comfort scent, but not too comfort.
- a workhorse frag: interesting enough to use everyday
- a season-less frag: its not too warm and not too cool. Well balanced.

Parfums de Nicolai does have some good men's choices.

So are Comme des Garcons scents considered niche? Some of them are quite affordable. Check out LuckyScent.

Geir Ness if you like sweet and mildly minty - like after dinner mints. Plus it's fairly cheap ~ $60
