This really smells like a typical Hermes fragrance. A grapefruit citrus opening that smells like your typical "eau de cologne" backed by peppery earthy grassy mineral notes. If you've smelled...
The eucalyptus, cedar and benzoin creates a cool, dry fragrance that doesn't have the medicinal qualities usually associated with that combination of notes. A great price, I'm glad YSL keeps...
I have actually done something of a full 180 on this - the first time I smelled it I thought it was absolutely horrid, just a harsh saltwater and little else. I did give it a few more tries, and...
The name Lys Fume is only half correct. The lily is there, the smoke is not. No complaint, though. This is a handsome and well composed floriental. Lily is the centerpiece but other elements...
Oud tends to be the gorilla in the room in a fragrance that uses it as the principle note. Oud being both potent and distinctive, the challenge is how to make an oud-centric perfume fundamentally...
I started out with a lot of designer frags before I even tried my first Niche, and I still don't have many. I really like Paco Rabanne One Million, Escada Magnetism, Escada Sunset Heat (I am a sucker for fruity frags!), Bulgari Aqua, Prada Amber Pour Homme, Gucci Pour Homme II
There are an overwhelming load of best designer fragrances.
A greater member than I once mentioned to me in a PM conversation that he thought as a general rule that the very first scent a designer house released for me was its best. YSL PH, for example, but that house is so good all of its scents are best designers. The greater member than I suggested the first Armani for men for an example, and the first Van Clef & Arpels for men. I'd add the first Ralph Lauren, Polo, as another best designer (I acknowledge that it has its critics on this forum), and the first Karl Lagerfeld. Someone correct me if Eau Sauvage wasn't Dior's first release for men, but it sure is a best.
Wow too many favorites for me.... They range from traditional classics to modern creations. A large handful of them come from the house of Dior and Guerlain...
Rive Gauche PH, Armani PH, Eau Sauvage, Chanel Antaeus and Chanel pour Monsieur, Very Valentino, Trussardi Uomo, Azzaro Visit, Guerlain Vetiver and many more...
I'm not as down on designer frags as a lot of BNoters and, as "houses", I think Hugo Boss and Bulgari have an almost perfect track record, with just a small handful between them that I haven't liked. But to pick a specific, I think it's got to be either Bulgari Black or Boss Bottled. Bulgari Black smells to me like it should be a nich frag and Boss Bottled seems to be the one designer frag that even those who as a rule hate designer frags like.
To make it easier (for me) I'll exclude houses that aren't niche, but known primarily for perfume (i.e., not a "design" label--Caron, Guerlain, Lauder, etc.).
Tops in favorite design labels:
Gucci: Pour Homme (original) and EDP (original)
YSL: Opium (femme) and M7
Hermes: Un Jardin Sur le Nil
Dior: Homme and Eau Sauvage/Diorella
Chanel: Antaeus, Egoiste, No. 5, No. 19, Coco
justinmonty, my current favorite designers ( I am gonna forget a few, I am sure !) :
Dior Homme
Baldessarini Concentree
Bulgari Black
Cartier Declaration
Thierry Mugler Cologne
Burberry London
YSL Body Kouros
Roberto Cavalli Black
Gucci pour Homme
I can't top the suggestions before me, but I will give a shout out to Estee Lauder. I love the fact that their webite is very comprehensive for each of their launches by including all of the layering items with each fragrance in gift sets. I am a little disappointed that it is more difficult to acquire the body lotion for Cinnabar, though they seem to round it up during the holidays.
Lauren, the plain regular Lauren in the brown bottle
Ritz (which they don't make anymore) I saw on ebay for $499
Theres an old Avon I used to wear in the 80's it came in a black triangular bottle (not Occur) and I can't remember the name of it as I was searching for some colognes tonight and still can't find what I want!
Jovan Patchouli it used to be 9.99 years ago, now just look at those prices now and Coty quit making that
