Today I bought - February 2010

On ebay, I got hold of this sandalwood fragrance that I hadn't even heard of.
I just knew that it kinda looked vintage and I thought any vintage sandalwood fragrance cannot be really bad and I just bid for it. Anyone familiar with this?

Morni Sandalwood

Also was lucky enough to pounce on a coveted, hard to find bottle of

Floris Sandalwood

I miss this stuff so much after giving a 1/4 of a bottle of it to my friend. I bought a 1 oz bottle of Bulgari Aqua. Instead of the sand dollar bottle, it comes in the travel bottle. Not as cool looking, but very different. I didn't want to buy a 3.4 oz bottle, so this should last me a year. Out of the 2 1/2 years I've been into fragrances, this is the very first time I repurchased a bottle of something that is or used to be in my wardrobe. Once I have this in my possession, I'm going to be pretty damn happy.

Dans Tes Bras.

We spent an hour chatting with M. Malle this afternoon and I figured it was time I bought this one - I have been circling it for a while, and it was also a good excuse to get a signed copy of his 'picture book' about the new Parfums pour la Maison line (there's a thread over in Home Fragrances for the intensely curious

Also Armani Prive Eau de Jade - a kind gift from our visiting basenoter Howard from Los Angeles.

Well, that didn't take long, I bought a bottle of A*Men Pure Malt. The light trail of this on my arm after a few hours is pretty damn fantastic.

F. MALLE's NOIR EPICES. I have searched and tried many perfumes, including Nasomatto's DURO, AFGANO, Biehls, mb03, CDG's AVIGNON & KYOTO, KILIAN's CRUEL INTENTION.......but something about Noir Epices that caught my eye/nose. I wasn't sure about it as it is very niche and spicy. I bought it anyway. I used it and got more compliments from it, especially from the ladies. Go figure!
I haven't bought a single fragrance in 1–2 years I think. The last ones I got were trades and it was a year or two ago. Finally, after having it has my #1 fragrance for five years now, I bought Serge Lutens Chergui. It was about time.

Oud Cuir d’Arabie

I finally got around to buying this one. It's weird, I was on the fence about buying two completely unrelated fragrances - L'Arte di Gucci and Tubereuse Couture - and then up pops a good deal on this and I decided this should be my bottle of the month instead.

At Bloomigdales:

Bvlgari
Bvlgari Black
(1998)
Annick Menardo
Woody Oriental
------------------
Top Notes: Bergamot, Green Tea
Middle Notes: Jasmine, Cedar Wood, Sandalwood
Base Notes: Leather, Amber, Musk, Vanilla
------------------
I had never bought this before because the "rubber" note in the top used to bother me. Today I smelled it once more, and this time I got it. If I like Dior Fahrenheit, with its "gasoline" note, or the weird note in the top of Geoffrey Beene Grey Flannel, why should I not like this? And, of course my recent blog musings about the working of Oriental scents made it a natural. Once the rubber "hits the road" (pun intended), this settles down into a beautiful leather oriental accord with just a hint of jasmine tea. Very Bvlgari. (And what's with that Roman stone inscription-style "V" in their trademark name anyway?)

I wasn't impressed the first time I tested Chanel's Cuir de Russie, but retested it from a generous sample a few days ago. I really want this and will get a bottle when I arrive in Amsterdam in a few weeks. To tie me over, I just ordered a 15 ml decant.

Burberry London. I had been hankerin' for a warm, manly scent. I went in Walgreen's on my lunch and they had the 1.7 OZ for $10off, so that reduced it to $29.99. Sold.

At Neimans:

Tom Ford
Special Blends
Japon Noir
(2007)
Spicy-Woody Oriental
------------------
Top Notes: Spices
Middle Notes: Patchouli
Base Notes: Jasmine, Vetiver, Leather. Amber
------------------

Quite strong off the top, this settles down to a very nice drydown of woody and oriental notes with jasmine. The spices get it started, but then sensibly get out of the way to let the fragrance finish its journey tastefully. Monster sillage at first moderates after the first half to three-quarters of an hour.
