Looking for a new scent, but.....

First off, hello! Just joined.

I have been bouncing around from fragrance to fragrance, and have acquired a fairly sizeable, partially-sprayed collection along the way.

I am hoping for some suggestions as to new scents to try. I guess a brief list of likes and dislikes is in order.

As a general rule:

Likes: spicy, leathery, slightly clean.

Dislikes: Citrus, strong soapy smell, whatever it is they put in Brut 33.

My three favorites are Polo(green), Creed Green Irish Tweed, and currently Gucci by Gucci.
I do realize that some of my favorites may contradict the preferences i listed, but please be mindful that I am nobody's expert.

Recently I tried John varvatos' Vintage and it's a nice scent. I guess if it reminds me of an 80s nightclub in a new leather jacket, i will probably like it.

Any suggestions?

Amouage Jubilation XXV (spicy incense)
Banana Republic - Cordovan (modern leather)
Chanel - Antaeus (80s powerhouse)
Christian Dior - Bois d'Argent (honey/gourmand)
Diptyque - Eau Lente (spicy, spicy)
Hermès - Bel Ami (classic leather)
Knize Ten (classic leather)

Thanks, WB. I've not tried any of those scents. In fact, the mere mention of "80s powerhouse" has made it impossible for me to avoid any scent affiliated with said term. So, the Antaeus and Jubilation now top the list.

One of my recently discovered favorites may work for you: Paco Rabanne XS. It does share similarities with Creed Himalaya, but I actually like XS better myself.

If you don't have a problem with "female" fragrances, may I suggest Bandit by Robert Piguet. Although supposedly feminine I find it to be very unisex.

Mugler Cologne (although, susceptible to a bit too much soapiness)
Crabtree & Evelyn Sandalwood- if you manage to get the vintage version, even better

Guerlain Derby may suit you. It's a spicy leather chypre - artemisia, bergamot, lemon, peppermint, jasmine, mace, pepper, pimento, rose, leather, oakmoss, patchouli, sandalwood and vetiver.

By the way, I am ordering a couple samples, as most of these suggestions are not available here.

I used to think Creed Green Irish Tweed was expensive. Now, I do not.

Everlast Original 1910: you get a clear and strong (but pleasant) leather note, along with "clean" citrus and mild spices. Good quality and low price.

One of my favorite colognes with a leather accord would be Canali Men. It does have some citrus
in the topnotes, but I dont' think that I would classify this as a citrus frag. As it drys down, I
think you may be impressed by it.

A clean leathery scent, with very little bit of citrus(i know you avoid it, but the one here is really light and not sharp or tenacious or dull) is Minotaure. This one should be sampled, it is getting increasingly difficult to find these days... not sure why...

Big second to SocalWoman's suggestion of Guerlain Derby. I was thinking of it while I was reading your post.

How do you feel about vetiver? Guerlain's Vetiver is a nice, clean scent.

Have you tried Chanel's Sycomore? It's a smoky vetiver. Very well done.

How would one describe vetiver? I see the term quite a bit, but am pretty new to this.

I don't think it is easy to describe vetiver. Before I understood the smell, I read descriptions but none of them made sense when I finally "got it." As some "experts" have said, it does have a "hard" and "unbending" quality, which means that if you don't want "rough edges" in your frag, you should only consider mild vetiver frags, such as M; Men.
