BMM10 Prediction Contest & Schedule of Events

Thread Starter
Flags are flying in Daytona and the frags are fuming across the world as the Basenotes March Madness Prediction Contest kicks off! Are you guys ready? I've been waiting 11 months to do this again!

(Click for full size.)

Surreality won the Prediction Contest last year and an_oud_girl took runner up. You have until February 28th to send me, by any means necessary, your completed bracket. You can use the image I provide and copy and paste with the image editor of your choice, you can print it and scan in your results, take a picture of your completed form and email it, mail a printed form to me, or send me an easy-to-follow text list. First round games are worth 1 point, second round is worth 2, 3rd round is worth 4, and so on, up to 32 points for correctly predicting the winner. The high score is 121 out of a possible 192 points. I will not be accepting late entries this year! Sorry, but you'll have quite a bit of time to fill out a bracket!

With that, the Prediction Contest is underway! May the best nose win!

And if you want to cheer on your favorite frag this year, here is the schedule for the games this year, Round 2 is now 2 games per thread, down from 4, to offset all games being 24 hours.

This is so cool and exciting. You should figure out a way to sell tickets. Hats and t-shirts, at least. Very fun stuff. Thanks for coming up with this fun idea.

I've gone ahead and made my predictions.

If No. 88 loses the play-in I'm in a world of trouble, but I think it'll do it quite easily, despite not being my favorite of the two.

One little thing that had been bothering me was I couldn't see a way to have BMM encompass the whole month of March without too much dragging on of things, but I think I've got a working system now. There will be a Consolation Game to decide 3rd Place, which will be worth no points for prediction, only for fun. I've also added an awards show, which is what I'm furiously working on right now. I've got some 20+ awards for both fragrances and for users participating in the Prediction Contest. Some of these are really funny, so if you were considering filling out a bracket please please do, it'll be a lot of fun. Finally, the last day of March will be set aside for closing ceremonies, led by our own Somerville Metro Man.

Two weeks until the War Of The Roses! Get those predictions in, sooner the better!

So it's just me and Surreality playing? *tap tap* This thing on?
I think people have lost interest this year. Relative to last year, that is.
I think people are waiting until they hear the injury report.

I'll start crackin' skulls if it leads to an increase in participation.

I think part of it was because I threw the idea out last time like 5 days before March. This time I'm giving it a full month. Huge difference obviously, and I'm still trying to dial things in.

I will say, though, that if you're on the fence about it that this will be a blast, and I've got some surprises that nobody but Diana and I know about yet. All you're out is a little bit of your time to fill out a bracket, I can't refund that but I can listen to suggestions to make it better.

Here are my predictions (not preferences):

I've received four brackets today, proof-positive that begging is an effective means of increasing participation.

Oh no, no lost interest from me - but honestly, I've never warmed up to Prediction Contests myself. I prefer just sitting back and watching the game(s) unfold.

I am with Mikey, no lost interest here either. I just haven't finished my predictions yet.

Honestly, I don't remember what program I used to fill in my choices on the bracket sheet. It was intuitive and simple last year, no such luck this year! Any suggestions?

Something as simple as MS Paint will do the job, I've received several brackets created with it and I have no problem reading or recording them.

Thanks, bluesoul!

MS Paint worked very well. I PM'd my picks to you. Hopefully, you were able to decipher them.

Got them, no problem.

We've got 10 people playing now, and 8 different winners picked. I think it's gonna shape up quite nicely, indeed.
Dan I sent my entry via email to you. I forgot to ask for a confirmation. Let me know you have or not and if you can read it!

I've got yours now, thanks for sending it again.

We've already nearly doubled the amount of brackets received compared to last year, and there's still nine days to get yours submitted.

There's about a week left to fill out a bracket, I received mrcoloneguy's to bring us up to 12 people competing, and nine different winners predicted. Some of you have predicted some...ah, let's call them "daring", upsets.
Let's hear it for daring upsets! Old Spice takes Habit Rouge in overtime!

Well, probably not.

I don't wanna post any of these daring upsets until I've got all the brackets in but some are mighty daring indeed.
OOOOoooooooh, hell today is the first time I see this thread, i'm soooooo in
Just gimme a day or two to get the bracket filled in but i will participate!

I've received brackets from flannelman and telecaster bringing us up to 14 competitors. There's still a few more days, get your picks in by the evening of the 28th to be safely included in the prediction contest!

I've got yours now, timaru, which brings us up to 15 competitors and only three days until entries will be closed. As an preliminary indicator of how games will play out, I will also create a bracket made up entirely of the majority picks, named The Zeitgeist, who you may see around from time to time.
Cheese'nRice! 15 participants out of the thousands of members? That is depressing
post #27 of 54
Thanks for setting this up, bluesoul and others! Here are my predictions.

Oh lord, I don't know how this works but it sounds fascinating. Is this what boys DO? Is this like sports betting or something?
What do I do? I pick a fragrance I think will win and then PM you my guess/bet?
Wordie~ I haven't finished mine yet, but I just print out the entire bracket*, fill in all the blanks by hand until there's one big winner, take a picture with my digital camera, upload the pic to photobucket, and PM it to bluesoul. At least, I think that's how I sent it to him last year. All your choices must be filled in before the deadline.

*Click on the bracket in bluesoul's first post, and a large version of only the image will open in a new window. When printing, remember to change the page layout from portrait to landscape.

Shoot, I got all distracted reading my reviews of No 88 and Rose 31, and then did other things, and now it's HOURS later and I still finished only the Creed region!

edit: Actually, I might've emailed my completed bracket last year. That'd be a bit easier, for sure. bluesoul, would you please PM me your email address (again)?
again thanks a million for setting this up

1. Copy bluesoul's diagram to a program that allows you to add text, such as Paint in Microsoft XP or other

2. Then use the text feature of the program you chose to drag a text box of appropriate size in the proper place, type in your choice of winner of each of the multitude of 2-frag contests until you finally put your ultimate winner on the center line.

3.Then save your work

4. Then either enlarge your entry to readable size and email the pic of your work directly from your program or copy from your program to Photobucket or the like and post that Photobucket pic as an entry in IMG form on the tournament thread. Or email the saved Photobucket pic for bluesoul to have it entered before the deadline.
