I'd go with Tom Ford GrV, AdP Assoluta or perhaps Boucheron.

Well, mrcologneguy....I feel especially qualified to respond to this thread, since every time I travel I travel for business - which is approximately 18 days each month. I am a Flight Attendant with a major US carrier, and I have been since 1986. If this helps, I am 51 years old. I personally prefer fragrances which I do not have to re-apply. However, since I often work 14+ hour duty days, this can be very challenging - since I do not want to 'overwhelm' our passengers, my coworkers, or myself! If you look at my wardrobe, you will see that I have a fairly broad range of fragrances which I tailor to the specific event or season. What we each prefer is very subjective, but I have found that orientals seem to offer both a degree of sillage management as well as decent longevity, when applied judiciously. I will offer you a few suggestions from my wardrobe which I have found, over the years, have brought me many compliments while remaining fairly restrained (yet long-lasting!) in a very confined working environment (in alphabetical order):


Arpege pour Homme by Lanvin (Fall, Winter, Spring- fantastic frag)
Blu Stremo by Carlo Corinto (perfect for Summer wear)
Bowling Green by Geoffrey Beene (nothing but compliments all year around,
and longevity is 5 star! THE BEST ALL AROUND!)
Cadillac for Men by Cadillac
Carlos Santana for Men (2nd only to Bowling Green in Compliments)
Carven Homme (I would wear this anytime, anywhere)
Mauboussin Homme EDP (this one is so good, that you will likely get a promotion - super elegant)
Roots for Him (superb - for Summer use - perfect for business travel - #1 for the Summer)
Tabac Original (never offensive - very confident - compliments year round)

I like the vetivers for travel because I think they make me feel really fresh and clean. I especially like the Guerlain Vetiver and the Lanvin Vetyver ( a bit sweeter treatment). Applied lightly, they smell great without being overbearing to the dude or dudette next to me on the plane. Paco works well, too if you like a more soapy top.

Trendy and stylish?

my first suggestion would be Escentric Molecules > escentric 02.
Ultramodern and in my opinion impossibly offending to anyone.
Citrus or vertiver might also be good choices such as
Eua sauvage fraicheur cuir or Bulgari PH soir
or any vertiver you find appealing

My 1/2 oz. bottle of Odeur 71 by Comme des Garçons is the first thing that goes into the zip lock bag when I travel. It's distinct, modern, hip, unobtrusive and long lasting. I love the way Luca Turin described it in The Guide, "It smells as if a complete guy had come out of the box."

As a frequent business flyer myself, I think SillageMonger and his good taste hit it right on the head! Being inoffensive with your fragrance is the prime consideration in a plane. The tight quarters and poor air circulation make it extremely easy to become an inescapable nuisance to others. Because virtually nobody objects to "clean and fresh," I second his suggestion of Santana and Bowling Green (applied lightly). But Prada's Infusion D'Homme is probably best of all, IMO.

However, I'd stay away from Carven Homme and Tabac Original when flying. I own and love both, but they're much stronger. SillageMonger has an advantage in that he's up and about as a flight attendant, while we passengers are in one spot for hours. We ought never apply four sprays of Georgio for Men (as he recalled in another thread). It'wonderful stuff, but way too strong for a passenger.

Please be considerate when flying.

Two that popped into my head as well

I usually wear citrus or traditional cologne-type fragrances during travel--Miller Harris Tangerine Vert, Chanel Eau de Cologne, etc. However, pure parfums can be appropriate as they stay very close to the body--Vol de Nuit or No.5 are both good candidates. As was stated above--light and inoffensive is the theme.

Eau Sauvage seems perfect anytime anywhere.

Vetiver Tonka works for me - it's a comfort scent. The 15ml bottle is sturdy and a good travel size.

Funnily enough the few times I have worn Guerlain Homme have been on flights - tried it at Duty Free and had three hours on the plane to get to know it - also nice.

I have to check out Odeur 71 now.

I travel almost every week for work - and have for the last 15+ years. In fact I flew this morning - I wore Aramis. I pretty much wear anything - I just don't over do it.

Maybe SillageMonger has been a flight attendant on one or more of my flights......

Chanel pour Monsieur (more on the classical, timeless, puristic side)
Cartier Roadster (an elegant frag, evoking our speedy age in both laid-back yet distinguished style)
Hugh Parsons Yellow and La Martina Hombre (too very energetic yet not too youthful, rather sophisticated and elitist citrus frags)
Very Valentino for Men (I never knew that a tobacco frag can be that cooling, sharp and yet also discreet)

Tobacco Vanille by Tom Ford epitomises what you need!

I would probably take my bottle of Ted Baker Endurance. It has a fantastic ginger smell and
has this unique rubber case around it!
