Music! Cerddoriaeth!

Well.. judging by the various threads and the Album/Song of the Day topic, us BNers have quite eclectic tastes! Which genres are you a fan of? What songs/albums got you into those genres or music in general?

For me, it all started with a song off an album I stole from my brother's German exchange student friend Harry. Well, only for the length of a trip to Tennessee. I gave it back when we returned

I now know it's Hardcore.. but at the time I had NO idea what it was but I loved it. I was around 8 at the time. That led way to an interest in Trance, especially Epic Trance. Songs like Cafe Del Mar and Saltwater really piqued my interest. In an almost circle, I ended up interested in Hardstyle which is a bridge between Hardcore (the first "out there" genre I was exposed to) and Trance which I was now a fan of. For awhile there I only listened to Electronic music! I then started listening to Black Metal instead of the Metal I had listened to years before (As I Lay Dying, The Black Dahlia Murder, Mudvayne, etc). It was just more interesting and had more atmosphere.. it was the antithesis of pop music. Nowadays I've been dabbling in all kinds of stuff. Everything from Ambient (Hammock), to Shoegaze (Alcest), to Post Rock (Sigur Rós), to Trip Hop (Arms & Sleepers), to Modern Classical (Library Tapes), to Gothic Country (Those Poor Bastards), to Modern Folk (The Tallest Man on Earth), to Dark Cabaret (Circus Contraption), to Doo Wop (Dion & The Belmonts), to Hard Electro (The Toxic Avenger), to Progressive House (Mango), to Sadcore, and "Other" (Sacred Spirit). Yup, I have pretty weird taste in music! Oh and of course, I still love my first Electronic genre of choice: Trance.

My listening time is divided between indie, pop and rock of various genres, with a hefty dose of mostly modern classical music. I'm bad at splitting hairs when it comes to sub-genres, as depending on who calls what what, I may like Freakfolk, Psychobilly, Shoegaze, and even "Emo" (!?)

Has anyone else noticed that, depending on the reviewer, just about all post-1980 rock tends to get called "Post-Punk" at some point...?

As in most things, though, I'm drawn more to the fringes than the mainstream, though there are individual songs and tunes in all genres that draw my attention.
