What do you dream about?

I'm always interested to find out what other people dream about. It seems to vary for different people, from people who say they never dream, to people who dream vividly.

As for me, I'm prone to very vivid, detailed dreams. Perhaps the oddest thing about them is that I'm rarely me, and often it's more like I'm watching a movie that being an active participant in the goings on. Often the stories are very detailed, science fiction-esque, and apocalyptic, which is slightly odd, as sci-fi and fantasy take up very little of what I read and watch.

A dream I had recently that typifies some of the odder ones I've had was one where me and this woman were investigating whether we were truly in reality or in some other dimension, as for some reason we had some suspicion that something wasn't right with the way things were. Towards the end of the dream, I found her crying, and on asking her what was troubling her, she told me she figured it out; that it was a dream, and that when I woke up she'd die ( or rather, cease to exist ). I promised I wouldn't, that is was worth staying asleep to keep someone alive - and of course, promptly woke up. My dreams are very vivid and lifelike, and that one left me a little disturbed ( did I kill a dream-person? )

Of course, fragrance often comes up in my dreams, from silly dreams ( an entire fragrance mall, no less, suspended about a mile up in the air in a giant tree ), to the creepy ( an oud fragrance that literally began to reconstitute a jungle around me as I wore it, snakes and bugs included ), to the borderline useful ( waking up with a specific bottle and/or note combination to find my dreamed-about fragrance ).

So, what goes through your head when you're asleep?

Le Grand Duc — I was really, truly laughing out loud over your story.

Seriously—I dream fabulous productions with casts of hundreds of extras. Often they're just dumb little stuff, but I like my big production “movies” best.

Right now it would be about scoring another bottle of Guerlain SdV as my current one is almost empty now

My dreams tend to be detailed as well. Something that seems to be a common backbone is that they're all at night for some reason.

If I ever remember my dreams, it's only for the first few moments I'm awake. Even if I try to remember them (and I have, on occasion), they seem to disappear. I wonder why.

LOL ... poor me, she is a strong woman!

Most times I do not remember my dreams, though I know I have dreamed because there are foggy associations in the morning. At times my dreams are so vivid, I actually "feel" any form of human contact. These dreams are usually outlets for issues I've had with others.

Let's see.

1. Insofar as anxiety dreams, I'm usually being chased by a mob of angry gangsters/cops/zombies/creditors or whatever.
The mob is after me, I have to join the army (organized mob) I'm being persecuted for a crime I didn't commit, etc.

2. Freudian dreams are simple wish-fulfillment and rather fun until I awake.
The bummer is when I get pre-cognitive dreams, even those with Freudian symbolism: dream of a train entering a tunnel?
OK that's classic---BUT
But say it was a green train and the tunnel is gold and inside there was there's a painting by Rembrandt.
Next day I'm walking by a shopping district and there's a print by R, next door a toy store with an (expletive deleted) green train and--
This has happened so many times it's annoying. Why the hell can't I dream of the winning lotto numbers instead?

3. Jungian dreams, esp what he termed " Big Ones " do get my attention.
When a Hindu sage shows up and tells you to get a hold of your estranged wife, trust me--give her a call.

BTW Does anyone else wake up these days only to find himself in a Harry Potter movie surrounded by DEMENTORS?

I often do, until I have my first cups of coffee. I wonder if Prof Snape taught about the virtues of caffeine (or Red Bull) in his potions class . . .

Some interesting ones that recur from time to time over the years:

1. I have discovered I can levitate and then move (fly) through the air, not rapidly, more like a hot air baloon rising and drifting, and usually not more than 50-100 feet up. I cannot believe how easy it is, just think it and it happens. I often tell others how easy it is and to try it themselves. Avoiding overhead high voltage power lines is a bit tricky but generally a very fun dream.

2. I have a final test to take. If I don't take it and pass it I can't graduate/continue or the like. Could be high school, college or professional school. But...seems I have not attended a single class! I don't know the subject but think I could pass IF I can avoid the notice of the teacher/professor who will certainly note my presence and because I haven't been in a single class won't allow me to take the test. Stressful dreams

3. I have left something very valuable (vague as to what) in a dorm, open locker or restaurant or another public location. I go back to get it and of course it is gone. I travel far and wide to find it but can't seem to locate it. Tiring and stressful dreams

kbe, 1 and 3 make up the framework of just about every dream I have.

My dreams are constantly in motion. The territory is a random jumble of every place I've ever been, and I am always on the move -driving thorough neighborhoods, on a rollercoaster-like freeway, walking through hallways in a hotel that leads into a shopping mall (I actually stop to browse some frags!), then I'm crossing through an oil field or in a parking structure etc.
I am always finding hidden paths that take me instantly to another place miles away.
Day and night shifts from scene to scene.
The levitating is always some sort of accidental discovery that feels second-nature.
And at some point I'll be trying to run somewhere, but can barely move inches no matter how hard I try.

I actually enjoy dreaming. I look forward to bedtime because I know there's an 'acid trip' just a few hours away.

I don't know how to classify, explain or interpret these dreams, but I must admit in all honesty that lately, I'm dreaming quite frequently, more frequently than any other dreams, about seeing myself, just as I would be watching a completely different persons, acting out scenes from my favorite films, everything being just the same, the settings, the mood, the soundtrack, the costumes, even the angle of the camerawork, it's just that instead of the character and/or actor portraying this very same characters, I see myself in all these scenes.

I too have very vivid dreams. Lately I've been having doozies. My dreams tend to stem from thoughts of something that I've been dealing with during the day but haven't had much to time to think about, and so repressed until nighttime.

Let's see, last night I dreamt someone put my baby on a ladder and tossed him in the air and he landed on the edge of the dining table and broke a clay pot, and then fell off the edge and onto the chair and knocked that over. I was furious. I was watching the event being talked about on the news, later in the dream, and all the newscaster mentioned was that the clay pot probably had lead in it anyway and shouldn't be used. I was furious again.

Thoughts suppressed: Trying to find a nanny.

The other night, I dreamt I was holding a beautiful green snake. It was not doing so hot, because I'd somehow taken it from the pet store (without paying, I guess) and I didn't know what to feed it. But somehow I'd kept it alive for weeks. In the dream, I was surreptitiously trying to return the snake to the pet store, without anyone noticing. The only way I could return it was to drop it into one of the terrariums (huge!) which was full of little bush-like ferns, so I couldn't tell if there was another snake in there that would eat mine. I had a notion that there was a black cobra in it, though, and that my poor snake would probably die before it got discovered.

Thoughts suppressed: April 15th is approaching and I know we've bitten off more than we can chew with our mortgage.

I have one certain dream that comes back quite often in periods; I enter a huge perfumerie, also selling cosmetics of course. I have lots and lots of money, and I am all extatic about spending soo many bucks on my favourite things.
What makes this dream almost becoming a nightmare is that I am not able to choose from all these things I desire. The shop is about to close, and I get more and more stressed and frustrated. The shop closes and there I stand on the street (in the rain, for some odd reason) without having bought one single thing...That is when I wake up.
This seems like a very logic kind of dream, considering..well, you know.

Do you all dream in colours btw? I always do, but have read somewhere that a majority does not.
I've always dreamt in color. I thought everybody did.

BTW, If you have great sex in a dream, could a Freudian interpret what the hell it really meant?

Cheers,

Mario

And if you withdraw from the dream before you finish? Would that be considered Narcoitus Interruptus?

My dreams are always pretty vivid and in color. Two recurring themes are food and violence, separately of course, it's not like Attack of the Killer Tomatoes. lol
