I know, they may not smell the same, but I want to know which is better in terms of sillage, longevity and which smells better. They are both 80's fragrance.
Which makes you feel more comfortable, which is more wearable ?
Can you use them for any ocasion ?
Which gave you more compliments ?

I didn't try Antaeus, so I can't vote.

Antaeus, as I recall, is a sillage monster, massive levels of woody cigar box aroma radiating for hours. It's enjoyable but more linear than Kouros which has some give and take between it's powdery barbershop aspects and it's much maligned body odor undertones. I prefer Kouros, it's just the more interesting and lively of the two but Antaeus is the more socially presentable if only because some people find Kouros disagreeably animalic.
I go with Kouros - especially over the current bastardization formulation of Antaeus.
Antaeus (I own a vintage bottle).

In Kouros I am more disturbed by the very strong, in-your-face floral notes than by the civet note (which is not exactly a human BO note, like the sweat note of cumin in Eau d'Hermès or Déclaration, but rather an animalic, urinous note).

Both fragrances have impressive longevity. As far as sillage is concerned, I am not a sillage monger myself and I don't spray more than 2 sprays of my favorite powerhouses (especially when they are vintage!) so I am not really qualified to comment on their sillage.

I fully agree that Kouros is a landmark in male's fragrance history, even a masterpiece, but I can't wear it, really. More than 1 spray of Kouros gives me nausea and headache.
Neither Kouros nor Antaeus have any sillage/longevity issues. But based on current bottles, I'd go with Kouros smell wise.
I voted for Kouros because I much prefer it, but if you're just going for comfort and wearability, I'd go for Anteaus. I never put on Kouros without a bit of thought.
Antaeus by a long shot.
As much as I like Antaeus, I'm going to have to side with Kouros between these two
post #9 of 63
Antaeus for me (yes even the current one). I like how the feminine and overly masculine aspects of Antaeus blend into a perfect harmony.
I'm feeling almost like a pariah...I deemed my answer...severely complicated...It is said though.."Chanel Antaeus". That wasn't the hard part....the hardest part was to tell everyone that I'm actually contrasting the two with the Current Antaeus not the Vintage....though whats declared cannot be retracted ..haha, imagine that in a nice monotone diallect...withered and didactic

Chanel Antaeus..Reform...I Do LOVE you INDEED!

take care my basenote family!!

I like them both.

To answer your questions, I prefer the smell of Antaeus by just a hair, but Kouros has better sillage and longevity by just a hair.

Wow. You're restating my daily quandry of the early 80s. Back then Antaeus won on most days. Today I find a lot of other fragrances that fill the Antaeus genre for me. But there's nothing quite like Kouros. I've squeezed Antaeus out of my collection yet still wear Kouros every now and then.
Am I the only one who finds both of them great?

Kouros ***** - a winning champion,
Antaeus ***** - the tragic hero.
If you like urine, go with Kouros,

if not, then go with Antaeus
Antaeus is probably wearable for me in more situations but doggone it I refuse to say one is better than the other!
Antaeus as my girlfriend would still be willing to stand within 3 feet of me while wearing it. Some people detect a urine note in Kouros... She's definitely one of them!
Smells better: too subjective. They both smell great to many people (including me).
Sillage- Kouros
Longevity- Kouros
Comfortable- Antaeus
Anateus much more versatile
Compliments- probably more with Antaeus
Not quite sure what "wearable" means in this context, but Antaeus is not as challenging or potentially confronting to wear as Kouros. As TonyPrince said- "I never put on Kouros without a bit of thought."
God, this one is easy - KOUROS, BY FAR!!!

I haven't smelled Antaeus in years, but I wasn't wild about it when i last smelled it. Kouros was love at first sniff for me.
Love and wear both, but I think Kouros is a better scent

I put on Kouros EVERY DAY, without thinking. Before I go to work I use 2 or 3 sprays of Kouros. That's not much, and it doesen't give me a headache. If you use 3 sprays, you've got a bonus to longevity.
Because I used this ALL my life, my nose got used to it. I can't fell anything after 6 hours, but I get compliments after 8. I got used to that too. Very nice. Here's a trick: use 2 or 3 sprays of Kouros right after you take a shower. It will last for ever that way. Also, the body odor note in it is in fact your odor, so use Kouros Deodorant Spray for that.

So, what in the world stops you from using K every day ???

Im with Narcus , they are both classics , may they always be available .

Give me Antaeus anytime, strictly talking from my own experience, the longevity, the projection, the versatility, the elegance (of combined even with the most formal, high end and distinguished fashion choices), the compliments received were all more than exquisite thanks to this frag.

I´m with both of you!
Antaeus is much more bearable IMHO
Antaeus is growing on me. Antaeus is much cozier than Kouros, but Kouros is much more accessible when I run out of it, and it has the animalic aspect that I like in fragrances.
Kouros even with the 'golden' note and all.
I'm not going to vote in the poll itself because I don't want to disrespect the fantastic Kouros that I love so much, but tonight I went and re-smelled Antaeus which I haven't worn in a few years.

That is one of the greatest smells I have ever known--wow. It puts me at ease right away. Love 'em both, but I'd be taking Antaeus with me if I had to go be a nomad in a nuclear winter.
Kouros for me. It was love @ first sniff since 1989 and ever since. I really can't understand why there are so many vehement haters that refer to Kouros as "urinal cakes". In every single thread that Kouros is mentioned, there seems that someone is calling it urinal cakes/ I know that I don't smell like piss!! and my beautiful wife would certainly agree!
kouros !
I will never be without both....although my wife despises them equally.

If you make me pick one? Kouraeus.
Kouros, dear Ladz!
Antaeus is very wearable versatile and manly elegant. Kouros smells good but it has the animalic aspect that I find to much when apply on me.
Without hesitation I vote for Antaeus.
They're both excellent but I prefer the enigmatic Kouros
post #35 of 63
you serious, clark?
I prefer Kouros because it is a unique fragrance.I like Antaeus but I don't consider that it is such an icon like Kouros. Moreover,I know a fragrance almost equal to Antaeus-Fendi.Admitedly,it is only a personal opinion.
This poll is rigged. I smell civet prejudice.

Feminine? Antaeus??...
Kouros. Antaeus is too expensive.
Antaeus all the way!!!

Confirm Antaeus....
Both r love or hate frags and also a legendary 80's powerhouse....Antaeus is acceptable smell.

Great Poll
Kouros vs. Antaeus = Civet vs. Castoreum
Antaeus is lovely, all plush rounded edges and that understated Chanel elegance. Kouros is about as understated as a 2x4 to the jaw. Of the two, Kouros actually lives up to its '80s-powerhouse rep and has apparently suffered less from the Reformulation Demon's wrath than Antaeus, which I've only smelled in its current iteration (although I generally take charges of reformulation with a grain of salt). Antaeus I'd wear to dinner with the parents or during a cozy evening at home in the dead of winter; Kouros I'd wear when I want to feel like a man-eating sex bomb driven mad by the summer heat. Antaeus sits flat on my skin and is content to rest on its good looks and charm; Kouros doesn't sit still and keeps talking back to me, always with something interesting to say. Antaeus is expensive, Kouros is cheap (well, comparatively). Antaeus I'd pack in my overnight bag in case we go someplace fancy; Kouros I'd take to a desert island, and beyond. Antaeus charms me, Kouros excites me. I voted Kouros.
I also love both scents, and if we were comparing vintage versions of both I'd probably give the nod to Antaeus. But when comparing the versions now available I feel that Kouros is the far better reformulation.

Many people may still find the new version of Antaeus more wearable and versatile than Kouros, despite, or perhaps even because of its reformulation which has removed much of its vitality.

I have to vote for Kouros over the weakened Antaeus.
I've changed my mind; I like Kouros better now!
both are great;
it´s a shame what they have done to Antaeus!

I didn't feel them to be so different, not at least on my skin... I don't know which i prefer.
I don't get any "urine note" neither: first time i tested kouros (untrained nose then) i hated it, then it felt like urine, some months later i tested it again and it smelled clean and glorious, and, in a way, similar to antaeus
post #48 of 63
I voted for Antaeus.
I love both but voted Antaeus since it's more wearable for me.
Antaeus is more wearable and agreeable to the public, so Antaeus.
Woman butting in ... I love both - on men... but I think Anteaus wins over Kouros for general wearability.
Just layer them...
kouros is a masterpiece, an olfactory feast while antaeus seems just a tad messy, imo.
While I find Kouros simply vile... I admit I like Antaeus a little bit. Chanel gets this 1!
I´d prefer Kouros as I usually don´t like leather in fragrances (except for the Quorum)
Antaeus.
Antaeus i prefer,

But Kouros last longer and has much more sillage.
Antaeus - I find Kouros disgusting. I could see the case that Kouros has better sillage. Also, I could see both being a little scary to wear, but Antaeus is much safer IMO
post #59 of 63
Antaeus is not as sickeningly sweet as Kouros on me. Also the lack of civet and the overall feel makes it very comforting. Don't get me wrong, I can tolerate civet - I just don't think Kouros does it adequately. Antaeus is warm, masculine, comforting and enjoyable.
