I fell in love with a sample of Visa last night!
A dear friend on Basenotes sent me some samples and this was
the one that stood out for me. I am presuming it is the re-orchestrated
version by Guichard (not the original by Piquet) although I may be wrong.
Anyway, whoever created this gem, it is a winner in my book - soft, warm,
peachy suede wrapped up in what I think may be helichrysum, patchouli and
vanilla. I am sure there are a host of other notes in there, but the whole is
very smooth and well blended. All in all a very comforting, sensuous and totally
addictive scent. Thank you to my perfume fairy.

I do miss reading this & the Women's forum...life has been distracting/busy & I haven't been feeling very perfume-inspired. Reading through the SOTD threads is such lovely way to start & end the day though- there is always inspiration here for sure. So *hi* to all of you inspirational BNers and thanks for the perfumed light you shine

After mild weather, melting snow and rain yesterday, we have more snow! Boo! So I'll wear my beloved Balmain Vent Vert, wrap myself in its green goodness and pretend to be this gal:

LL

Doesn't she look happy? And warm

Day four of the seven days of 5 star fragrances as rated by ME

Ahhhhhh, Alahine. I've been looking forward to wearing this one. In fact, I took it for a trial run again last night.

Alahine by Teo Cabanel.
Notes:
bergamot, lavender, ylang-ylang
Bulgarian rose, Moroccan rose, jasmin, orange blossom
iris, rock rose, patchouli, benzoin, vanilla, musk

You pretty much know what you are going to get by looking at the traditional pyramid of notes. And you won't be surprised. BUT, right from the first spray, comes it's little secret. This is a beauty - so well blended and crafted. It whispers class, it surrounds you in classic perfume feeling with a nod towards modern sense. It doesn't feel old, yet it feels timeless.

The bright citris opening is smooth as silk. I can smell the lavender a bit, but it is smoothed out and blended until it is just a cooling breeze. The florals then come out, and I can smell rose, but it is rose surrounded and softened by their fellow notes. The amber is creeping in, softly, but possibly the florals are keeping the sweetness tamped down. Never does this fragrance go sweet, but never, ever is it harsh in any way. Each note blended to perfection. It then drifts off into it's closing, and you realise you have just experienced something special.

5 stars from me for the classic feel, beautiful structure and flawless execution. This smells beautiful.

Carnal Flower created by Dominique Ropion for Editions de Parfum Frederic Malle

Taolady ~ when I first glanced at your (SOB) regarding the TF TV, my mind read it as "son of a b*tch"! Found it funny! :P

As SMM would say: it's WACKY WEDNESDAY!

3xasif, thanks for your "perfumed light". Hope it gets more tolerable for you, whatever you are dealing with, hectic and uncertain!

In a 5***** Patrik Mauboussin Mauboussin -- loved or hated by many and with no one indifferent. Plums, amber, cedar, patch. Strong, gaudy in the beginning, comfortable and fluffy in the drydown. The longevity is measured by days, not hours even in the EdT formulation. Available, affordable, different sizes. Sweet, complex, luscious.

Have a nice day, all!

Guerlain - L'Heure Bleu. Its strong powdery base makes it fit the grey, rainy weather perfectly.

Safran Troublant

Nice, spicy and uncomplicated.
Cello, you are so right! The bottle of Mauboussin is a pyramid with a rounded foundation, you can twist it and it would spin. It is also coated in some sort of emulsion resembling a rainbow -- or the gasoline spot on the ground after the rain -- random concentric lines. I also forgot to add that I have had a mini, a 30ml, a 50ml and a 100ml bottles, all are winnahs in my book. For travel purposes the in-built spraying mechanism locks up (with a twist) and nothing sprays if you do not want it to.

Another thing I forgot -- two days ago on the 22nd, it was Ubu's 4 year BN anniversary, you are a veteran now!

I need to get crack-a-lackin'.

cello - I just added Alahine to my test list, and it's a good thing I don't go for blind buys very often because your beautiful description just about did me in!

3xasif - It's good to see you back around! I hope things are calming down a bit for you. You smell fantastic, of course.

Twolf - I hope you're feeling better! That Mauboussin should help fix whatever's ailing you...!

Caron - Infini

A most glorious aldehyde extrait.
Created in 1912 by Ernest Daltroff in collaboration with Gerad Lefort.
A soft rich floral aldehyde parfum with notes of jasmine, jonquil, lily of the valley, tuberose and sandalwood.
The story is that it took 15 years to perfect the fragrance.

Kumquat - is that gorgeous bottle from your collection? I have the exact same one, inherited from my paternal grandmother! Infini is my favorite Caron and this bottle is, naturally, a star of my collection. I'm so glad you posted it!

eta - the photo is beautiful, too!

Happy birthday, dear Jasper!

Hi, 3xasif, nice to see you!

Hugs to (((((Chaya))))) and everyone feeling poorly.

Krigler Lovely Patchouli. I can't remember the last time I've been on such a one-frag jag and I'm loving every minute of it!

Take care, everyone!

Evangeline, yes, I took the picture of this bottle from my collection. Thanks for your kind words! (Mike) I really adore this one. It is truly the gem of my collection. I like the more recent formulation, also, actually. But I was lucky to find this one on Ebay!

This morning I am in Miss Balmain, and loving it.

Big hugs for birthdays (Jasper!) and anniversaries (Ubu!)...

Admiring Kumquat's photo of Infini...

One of these days, I've got to try that Alahine, as well...sounds marvelous, really...

I'm not sure if this one is still a 5-star, these days...but this morning, it seemed like a safe, inoffensive fragrance on a day when I just need to remain calm and focused. Calm, in the middle of a storm...that's me (LOL)

SOTD: FM L'Eau d'Hiver

Have a great Wednesday, all...

SotE is Serge Lutens Fleurs de Citronnier... Testing it to see if it's suitable for tomorrow, and I think it is! It's fresh, flowery and shouts "spring"! Perfect!
From Dora's samples I chose Armani Gio which I have become quite attached to. It is a bright, warm perfume which is very comfortable to wear. Lovely.
Maybe it's an age thing but I'm choosing my perfumes in the same way that I choose footwear nowadays, for comfort rather than style, haha.

Happy Anniversary to ubu and Happy Birthday to Jasper!
Some wonderful photos today. Roberto's choice for L'Instant PH is perfect. Love Casablanca!

Wore Goutal's Le Chèvrefeuille last night, and today it's Chanel's Bois des Iles.

Have a great Wednesday, everyone!

Botrytis today for me. Wonderful dry spice.
Joining in the happy birthday wishes for Jasper.

I gave a bit of a plug to the ladies side of the SotD threads in my article this week, I'm curious to see if there will be any uptick in participation over here.

Today was one of those where the frag choice was dictated by urge, and I was really feeling like Juicy Couture Dirty English, and it was not an unhappy choice.

Have a wonderful day everyone!
Got to hurry, got a surprise work shift this evening!

But I just had to stop and say Thank you so much for all those sweet congratuations yesterday! Its absolutely overwhelming how supportive you have been, and it means so much to us both.

Today I'm testing a scent we made together. Lime, Geranium, Rosewood, and Atlas Cedar. Lovely stuff, but a bit too much like the generic smell in cleaning solutions. We'll have to work on that.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY JASPER!!!!

Just got home from an unexpected overnight in the hospital. I have the grandpappy of all kidney stones: 1.17cm. Surgery to "blast" the darned thing is next Tuesday.

No scent for me but my nurses wore Dolce & Gabanna The One and Viva La Juicy!

Missed you all. I'm going to sleep with my percocet now.
G'night!
