Today I bought - March 2010 - Page 2

I have to say that I'm really enjoying the "reinterpreting older scents to fit modern tastes" trend... First Fahrenheit Absolute, now this... Makes me even more excited to check out Azzaro Elixir PH when it comes out...

A magnificent essence, blending dry juniper berries and barely sweet, slightly green cinnamon leaves. The vetiver base smooths and gently marries the two. You could wear this to work or to a daytime affair and be very elegant. If you wore it in the evening, you would be the height of sophistication, yet in a perfectly unassuming way. Anytime you wear it, you must take on an air of entirely natural self-assurance, an almost unspeakable sense of comfort in your own skin. Ah, how deeply satisfying to wear this!

I find it interesting Jaime, that you (with all of those fragrances of yours) go through bottles and buy replacements of certain ones. It makes me realize that there are some, it seems, that really are your workhorse fragrances. I think Baie de Genievre is fantastic. It it one of the handful of Creeds, that I have a deep, profound respect for. I bought my bottle blind from a Basenoter and it was love at first sniff. The cinnamon leaf / juniper component just clicks.

Well, now that you mention it... there are some scents that get more use than others. That said, however, I should also say that this is only the second bottle of Baie de Genièvre I've ever bought, and that the first one lasted me about four years. I do like it, it is versatile, and I find that when I use it I apply it fairly liberally. Also, I have shared my first bottle with a few people by giving small samples and decants of it. To be fair, though, I got the lion's share of it myself, and the 75 mls. did go by fairly quickly.

Others I've replaced have been Guerlain Derby and Héritage, Chanel Antaeus and pour Monsieur, Givenchy Gentleman, Hermès Rocabar, Equipage, Un Jardin sur le Nil, and Bel Ami. In the case of the Hermès replacements, I gave away partial bottles, an average of about a quarter full, to a friend who liked Hermès, and who was trying to build up a collection.

My 100ml Equistrius arrived just now. No, it doesn't smell like a horse! It is a lovely, slightly salty Iris scent with a unique powdery inclusion of rice accord. We eat a lot of rice here, and that accord I can quite easily identify!

This thread is a fun, logical next step after posting on the 'my next purchase will be' thread.
I ordered a bottle of Aramis Havana Reserva last night. $79 + shipping seemed like a reasonable price, all things considered.

From an online supplier

Parfums D'Orsay
Étiquette Bleue
(1993)
CItrus Chypre
------------------
Top Notes: Bergamot, Orange, Lemon, Petitgrain, Rosemary
Middle Notes: Rosewood, Orange Blossom
Base Notes: Sandalwood, Balsamic Notes, Oakmoss
------------------
Very fresh going on. An agreeable accord, with a tight blend of notes. The whole is so tightly woven it's hard to disentangle beyond citrus and slightly floral notes. Limited longevity, but very nice while it lasts. Prominent sillage, but quickly fades. Risk applying liberally if you want a trace to linger.

Last Saturday I bought L'Artisan Parfumeur Dzongkha, and got 5 Artisan samples.

I was actually looking for Timbuktu but they didn't have a tester. The very helpful shop owner spent 20 minutes rummaging in a big trunk packed with dozens of Etro and l'Artisan samples. Unfortunately we could only find Dzing!, Premier Figuier Extrême, Patchouli Patch, Dzongkha and Fleur de Liane samples. I tried Dzongkha and loved it immediately.

Fantastic shop (they also had the Trudon candles!), great service, I will definitely come back to pick up Dzing! or Timbuktu or an Etro bottle one day.
