Porsche The Essence Summer Ice

Porsche Design has added to its fragrance portfolio (created in partnership with Clarins Group-owned Parfums Azzaro), with a new limited-edition called The Essence Summer Ice. It is rolling out this month in Asia, Europe and the Middle East.

The juice, described as a new orchestration built around the tonic and intense freshness of the first Porsche Design fragrance, features fresh and invigorating notes.

The woody-citrus composition (the work of IFF nose Anne Flipo) opens with a molecule called arctical, specific to all The Essence fragrances and a refreshing, green-citrus accord of Italian lemon, mandarin, green mint and juniper berry. The woody fragrance trail is magnified by Tunisian neroli and cedar wood notes.

The Essence Summer Ice bottle was designed by the Porsche Design Studio in Austria, and inspired by a block of ice. Its translucent frosted glass facade is illuminated by the blue-toned fragrance within. A matte silver stirrup, in brushed-aluminium, frames the opalescent block of glass.

I think I just hit on my actual gripe with bland summer stuff, and rehashes in general. I see the note pyramid and think, "Okay...and what else?" I'm waiting for the one note that gives it character, something to stand on it's own merits with. The first Porsche Design was, to me, quite forgettable.

And say no to top-heavy bottles.

Ugh....

The original was one of the nastiest fragrances ever. So if this has "arctical, specific to all The Essence fragrances", I don't have much hope for it.

I'll be the voice of dissent and say that it sounds good and it's the best looking bottle by Porsche so far.

I'd love to see a cold opening with the arctical, mint and juniper being prominent fading into a green/cool neroli heart. I've never sniffed anything with such a structure but it sounds good to me.

So once it comes to the United States, how long before it makes it to Marshalls?

SAs at Dillards just received the original Essence about 6 months or so ago - my SA had said they had "just got it in" when I asked if they had anything new. I hadn't seen it there before hand. So if it rolls out in the US at all, it'll probably be next summer. Shame, because I actually really like the original.

Anyone ever try this stuff?

Only tried the original and it was pretty awful. Never came across this version anywhere in the States.
