Searching for a scent. Does this even exist?

I'm looking for a buttery, almost tropical gardenia + leather.

Is there such a thing? I love the buttery quality of the gardenia in Fracas, but there's another white floral note in there that is a little shrieky/commercial cleaning fluid/metallic on me. I recently found a vintage, used bottle of Lentheric's Gardenia de Tahiti and I'd love something as buttery, rounded and sweet as that with some salty leather in it. What say you? Any advice?

Unfortunately, no ideas but I await others' answers with baited breath. Leather and gardenia sounds gorgie!

Balmain Ivoire? Not sure it has gardenia, but it has a creamy floral and green leather quality.

OOH! I want that too.
You could layer Marc Jacobs over PG Cuir d'Iris?

That's a fab idea for a new perfume- creamy gardenia + leather .................

Gardenia + Leather =

Azuree by Estee Lauder
Murasaki by Shiseido

I used to have trouble "getting" the leather note in fragrances and I perceived Balmain's Jolie Madame as nothing but creamy gardenias with a touch of violet. But I worked on expanding my understanding of leather, and now I primarily get lush gardenias along with soft leather in JM. I'm enjoying it so much more now - it's like having a new perfume!

Top notes - artemisia, coriander, gardenia, neroli, bergamot
Middle notes - tuberose, narcissus, orris root, jasmine, rose
Base notes - leather, patchouli, musk, civet, oakmoss and vetiver

Not sure about leather, Isabey Gardenia is very smooth and buttery to my nose.
I must say layering is a great idea!

I was going to suggest Jolie Madame but Evangeline beat me to it. Plus, she gave a great description of it. So, two votes for Jolie Madame!

Vintage Carven - MaGriffe comes close to your description. Of course, it is HTF.

Make that three votes for Jolie Madame, and another vote for Azuree!

That's awesome! Jolie Madame is EXACTLY creamy gardenias and leather.

Jolie Madame Perfume Intelligence; Created by Germaine Cellier of Roure; a crisp woody oriental chypre parfum with top notes of gardenia, artemisia, neroli, bergamot and coriander with heart notes of jasmine, jonquil, orris and rose. Base notes of patchouli, castoreum, moss and leather.

You all are right, This would definitely be the one. I'd go for parfum if it could be found.

This is exactly why Basenotes is such an awesome place for perfume lovers...!

Sounds like I should be checking out Jolie Madame too!

Velvet Gardenia is definitely an option if you want "skanky" gardenia, but it's not at all right for me. Private Collection Tuberose Gardenia is my benchmark gardenia fragrance, so far - the only one I've tried that has a nature-perfect gardenia.

I love Jolie Madame and have one of the older cylindrical bottles. Still reformulated, though...

Has anyone tried Aimez Moi by Caron? A beautiful, sweet violet/leather/tobacco scent. Perfect for a dandy, oui?

Aimez Moi and also the N'Aimez Que Moi are described as a sweet, creamy and buttery here:

Oh, just a thought...what of Maitre Parfumeur et Gantier's Magnolia Pourpre? Jasmine/rose/iris with magnolia and a hint of leather.

Galamb, I find that Jolie Madame has unisex potential, as I had started a thread called "Joli Monsieur." LOL! A blend of violets and leather.

OH NO. So many things to try! I think I'm going to have to search for some Jolie Madame. ACK. Another thing to add to my to-sample list. ALSO, I'm about to purchase a bottle of vintage Ma Griffe from my favorite antiques dealer, so we'll see how that goes! Thanks for everyone's recs. I cannot wait to try some of these. I really REALLY want a buttery gardenia/salty leather scent.
